The video, as usual for these sorts of click bait and jumbled thinking starts with a picture and dis-assembly of a Lithium 18650 battery for some reason, the internals of a lead acid battery or coked up ICE car is no prettier pictures. The 18650 did revolutionise but it is fading tech as is Lithium in favour of Lithium Iron Phosphate so the video above is old news and we have moved on massively from that situation. LFP now have the energy density way over 200 W per Kg, they are safe and much cheaper. CATL and BYD batteries have revolutionised cheap EV production but it is good to see diversity of supply. I have know for ages that S.Korea's LG, LGES, have been producing very good Lithium /LFP batteries, Renault have been buying them for may years and then building their packs in France from the batteries and it appears Tesla is going to do the same process in the US with a $4.3B deal to buy LG batteries and build battery packs in the US. The Tesla 3+ and later the Model Y, the world best selling car, will have a range 20% greater than the current models and be cheaper and qualify for UK and over country subsidies. Couple that with between free and almost free topping up with lecky, cheap overnight, free home electricity sessions and frequent plunge pricing at public chargers due to excess Grid power and it is game over for ICE vehicles.

Sounds like the mechanism has had it. It's usually the plastic brackets that hold the window on the runners that break causing the wires to come loose and wrap themselves round the motor spindle etc. Happened on our mk 1 Fabia but not the mk2 Octavia we had as the brackets were metal on that. I'm guessing the fabia still has plastic ones

My air con still seems go off randomly. It seems to work better when recirculation is selected rather than auto. It's a stupidly over complicated heating and cooling system.

A bit more time spent removing evidence of smokers...not sure it's helped any, but can't be making things any worse... Removed the long piece of trim along the dash above the infotainment screen, removed Columbus screen, removed front side, and dashboard air vents, rear air vent, cleaned front window door rubbers more thoroughly and got into the gape between the door card and internal window seal... The only parts I've not been able to remove were the big centre air vent, and the air vent/speaker cover on top of the dash; any suggestions on how to remove those greatfully received! I had a go, and things felt a bit 'snappy'! The amount of ash, dirty dust and the odd piece of unburnt tobacco that was hidden away was surprising, and really shows it gets in everywhere... That rag was clean before I started. To be fair, the really grubby mark was from the outer window door rubber, but the rest is from the interior window rubbers and air vents! The top of the screen, which you can't get to without it being removed was grim; this photo was taken after I cleaned it. I've been down a rabbit hole this weekend, investigating best cleaning practices, and there have been a few suggestions that cleaning the interior when it's hot is best as the smells are apparent and the material pores are open. With a little luck, the second Airvidox kit is arriving tomorrow, so I'll let the car get hot during the day, and clean the panels and seats tomorrow evening before dropping the bomb. The nuclear option after all this is an ozone generator... Let's see what happens over the next few days. Cheers, Nick

Thank you both very much for all that information. I am definetaly going to buy a CTek battery charger, and I have had a look at the links you sent, very interesting. I have also looked at the operators manual, ( I never invested in a workshop manual, mainly because my days of working on my cars are over really) but the manual is quite informative. Very pleased I asked these questions now on this forum, there's a lot of helpful people out there that's for sure. If I do end up getting a professional to change my battery, I know what questions to ask to satisfy myself whether they will fit it and program it correctly. Even though I have had my Kamiq for 5 years now, I still find things that I didn't know, but have to say still very pleased with it. Thank again

My 1.6tdi has a wobble/vibration when accelerating worse at 40-50mph. Weird as it randomly is ok. Felt through the seat but not the steering wheel. Have replaced and checked bushing suspension etc and still there. Spoke to a mechanic today and he suggested swapping tyres from rear to front etc and if its still there get a four wheel alignment done plus tyre balancing. If that doesnt work then it might be a damaged drive shaft thats out of balance or worn cv joint. Alasdair

Hi, reconsider if you really need it. There is a wireless charging pad, 2 USB ports and all phone operations you can do from tablet provided that you have android or iPhone. So why to bother with phone mount? When I get into the car I just drop the phone on the pad and that's it...

There maybe some truth to that statement if you change diesels to petrols, as has already been well proven, I'm not saying that diesels cannot burn, I have already publicly acknowledged that fact having seen way to many badly maintained buses catch fire while I was working with buses many years ago. You can throw a burning match into a pool of diesel and it will extinguish the match and no fire or explosion will result. Now try that trick with petrol........ Diesel demands a far more concentrated source of ignition before it will consider burning. The point that you constantly fail to see and accept is when the EV battery enters into thermal runaway, and this shows your actual biases towards ICE vehicles when you cannot even agree and accept that when EV batteries burn, there is no currently known method to put them out, they burn hotter, produce very toxic gases and they can then self ignite at a later date even when it is thought that they have finished burning. Even the much touted LFP battery is not as safe as they make you think they are. Yes, they are less likely to burn as easily, but what they do produce when in thermal runaway is massive amount of hydrogen, and you certainly do not want to be anywhere near that when that goes off. The upshot of all comes down to the following, a petrol or diesel based fire is extremely easy to deal with and fire depts can and do knock down such fires very quickly, they have many decades of experience in doing so, but when it comes down to an EV fire, that does not happen and the general consensus globally fire depts is to try and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring cars or structures and let the EV burn itself out.

Media saying the new EV Grant is stiffling EV uptake this year. Well yes whilst the £1500 is appearing on most EVs, whether they are European and will get the 1500 or 3750, or an intermediate figure, EV buyers are wait and seeing. Also in Q4 uk car sellers will start panicking about hitting their 28% EV mandate. Plus their should be cheaper finance deals reflecting the drop in central bank lending rates. I do arrive sometimes with low single figure state of charge. It is quite easy to judge it so one does but I am aware that if I did need to pop some distance I need a car with 100, 200 mile capability Sat their when I get home and I needed to onward travel soon after getting home. This would not be a problem if homes had 3 phase and a Renault like my Scenic and Zoe which can charge at 22 kws AC. Never want to go back to ICE and apparently 90% of EV adopters say and do the same. Just buy / PCP a better EV a couple years down the line as it will probably be about 30% better. Something you cannot say about ICE cars which had tech which has virtually stagnated.

Thanks for the reply. I know that previous models of the superb/octavia had something under the spring loaded cover but don't think the MK3 does, I've looked inside and its just the spring loaded cover, seems the sensor forms part of the top locking latch mechanism

I was trying to upload some photos of all the errors but they won't upload. I've looked at the pins on the caravan plug and whilst I wouldn't say they were pristine there's no obvious dirt or rust. I gave it a blow out and I guess we'll see what happens. Can't see any signs of damage to the plug cable.

This video relates to a Fabia Mk 3, but the symptoms sound similar to your car's.

One word springs to mind TAXI , I've have better 14 year old cars than 5 yer old cars , if the maintenance aint been done it won't be reliable How many miles on the car as tyres dont wear out that quick unless they were kerbing them all the time As said above run away quick

How? Patents, which protect inventions and processes, typically last for 20 years from the filing date in the United States. This period is fixed and cannot be renewed, after which the invention becomes freely available for others to use and build upon. Also, did you actually watch the video? The idea of li-on battery was initially from a researcher at Exxon, a big fossil fuel company. But the experiment was not a viable usable product. Actually making it into a viable product was done by Goodenough (at Oxford uni) and then Yoshino (for Sanyo/Sony). No fossil fuel company involvement beyond the initial 2v experiment. It's amazing you have the ability to take a straight forward story and twist it into your version just so it can fit into your unchanging closed minded narrative. Hopefully issue solved, changed bearing on rear wheel, ring was broke, car skidded a bit and glowplug light came on, lost power, hopefully to do with abs, because no fault was stored apart from the abs faults. Car running good now so far and no warning lights👍

The good news is: I’ve waited for dusk and taken the Skoda for a spin; what a difference! Everything is back to the way Mr Skoda intended for less than £20. 😎

I drove my parents' Megane yesterday and today. It drives very well and works well as a small car. But not for me personally, I think assist stuff are years behind my Tesla, eg. ACC doesn't slow down for curves, seeing stopped car too late, visualisation doesn't show much. The way it operates feels like a 10 years newer Leaf rather than a grounds up EV, mainly still need power button and different options in different sections of menu (Settings but that's only for infotainment, Vehicle is for vehicle setting but not everything, EV menu hides more settings, then drive mode also contains some other settings including interior lightstrip). Worst for me is the size of the key, seems to be a Renault thing. I hope the phone key mentioned by Johnny is a functional thing works like Tesla and BMW. The 2023 Megane also doesn't have one pedal driving. Only 3 regen settings compared to newer Megane or Johnny's 4 settings on the R4. (no firmware feature updates, typical of legacy manufacturers) Personally, I'm looking forward to Nissan Micra (R5 but Nissan style), new Leaf with smaller footprint (Megane sister car?) and VAG ID2 sister cars. We've decided to keep the 11 yo Leaf for a few more years (spent too much on the house over last 2 years, new kitchen, battery, aircon) Also wait and see what development are there for V2H options in the coming years.

100% agree with this post. Get an extended test drive in the Karoq. The seats in all current models have long bases and are heavily sloped. They don't have seat base length or seat base angle adjustment unless you pay extra for electric seat adjustment. For me that made the upright driving position uncomfortable. Maybe fine in a sports car but not an SUV. I'd been fine with four Yeti's, Octavia's, Fabia's etc. etc. After 10 months swapped the Karoq for a Superb.

Not all engines have factory mapping that allows them to take advantage of higher octane fuel.

Updated the mib2 firmware to 2.5 and fitted the bigger screen also changed the trim piece as with the mib2.5 you need the wider one

@Breezy_Pete Thanks a lot for your help identifying the correct part number. 5TA839016P fitted at the weekend and everything works perfectly now. 👍 When I took the door card off though, I noticed the tweeter connector has been snapped off and glued back into place….Probably when the aftermarket lock was fitted. The wires to the tweeter have completely come away so the next job is to replace that.

No you can update the Radio Database for the DAB station logos yourself..... There's a thread in this section and another in the ICE section giving you the instructions on how to do it. I've updated mine a couple of times this year so as to receive a more up to date list of station logos...... Although some still aren't included.

I installed a Brodit mount when I first got the car but quickly realised I didn’t need it! It did indeed get in the way of both the infotainment screen and the closest smart dial. My iPhone 16 Pro Max fits perfectly in the charger pad compartment, no need to touch it while driving. Alternative, if you feel the need to touch and use the phone while driving 🚔👮‍♀️ it fits snugly on top of the closed cover of the cup holder and Skoda even provide a clever little cut out in the glovebox compartment to allow a short usb cable to be run out of there to power the phone if it’s placed on top of the cover. Save yourself some cash 😉

@GiscoYeti , I was a bit concerned about you being able to "double the power" with your new battery, the "power" is the CCA or Cold Cranking Amperes and there are maybe 3 ways to rate/describe this, ie DIN which yields a very low value, then EN or SAE which method yields a value that is almost twice the DIN value/rating.
