  1. Look up New Automotive - where that story about petrol stations not stocking diesel comes from - and you'll see the 'spin'...
  2. I always think of general weirdness, especially random dash lights, as being a battery issue.

My Enyaq has a 12v socket in the boot that can be permanent or not depending on the fuse position
  4. In 2025, several used diesel models saw significant appreciation; for example, a three-year-old diesel Honda HR-V increased in value by 11.3%, while the Mercedes CLS rose by 8%. Demand for used diesels has, at times, outpaced the declining supply, creating a competitive market where dealers must pay a premium for stock, which is then passed on to consumers.
  5. Thanks again for all the comments. Car has been Glasgow to Aberdeen and back over past 2 days and not a whiff from that direction, so I'll put it down to excessive protective coating or just cheap/nasty on the aftermarket - for which I obtained a refund 😀
  6. Sounds like the alarm has activated when you started charging it...
  7. In case anyone in future has this issue, it seems, at the moment, to have been fully resolved. The supplying dealer paid for the car to go to Skoda for investigation, fault clearing and software updates etc. Since i collected it this morning and have driven it around, it all seems to be sorted 🤞
  8. This comes under “maintenance” and that doesn’t need to be carried out by a dealer to maintain the warranty. Only the annual servicing does. All your haldex servicing, brake fluid changes, air con regassing etc can be done by independents as long as they can update the online service history. In fact the classic one is that dealers aren’t required to clean the gauze on the haldex pump as it’s not in the workshop manual to do. Good VAG specialists know to do it so you get better results (although some dealers identify this and will do it if asked and charge the extra time). Hope that helps
  9. Forget chat gpt, it Is possible with clamp, I did it, and few more people also...
  10. So that would be the dubious SMMT?
  11. Got the selector back today by mail. Surprise, surprise ... ECU.eu added an external additional microswitch. So they did not do any internal repairs. I'll try to attach photos. The repair order states: Repair result: repaired, your unit was successfully repaired and tested Fault cause: internal cause Hints from our technician: after installation, please clear the trouble codes entries in the corresponding control units. An initialisation drive may be necessary

Hello @Serif and welcome to Briskoda 👋
  15. Well the Blue Light Services vehicles got Uprated suspension by 'Eibach'. Skoda Approved. Fabia vRS got Dealer fit Eiback lowering springs as an option. Many many Modified 4x4,s and AWD,s are out as Rescue Vehicles now with Mountain Rescue, Cave Rescue, Coast Guard, Recovery vehicles etc etc. Farm & Quarry and all sorts of Commercial Use. Camper vans as well. There are many VW Commercials now camper vans that are lifted. If it worries you, just do not do it. If it worries others, so what. Get the vehicle properly converted, insured and if required SVA,d. As far as capable vehicles for going off road that are affordable,.they are few and far between, and not all even that reliable / suitable for easy of use and repair.
  16. Timing belt, brake disks and pads, shocks are leaking and some other issues. It's not running very well at all.
  17. Yes they mentioned a mild hybrid. Skoda Octavia SE 1.5 TSI 115HP DSG 5DR. Petrol Hybrid.
  18. I want a petrol automatic to see my driving days out as well as having an EV. No newer diesel so no AdBlue. A 1,600 cc turbo & 150 PS max will do & no smaller capacity engine with poor longevity like a VW 1.5 TSI ACT. Actually no electrification either so no MHEV or PHEV. 40 MPG as a minimum would be nice for longer runs. That will be as economic as any BEV that gets run using public charging. Annual running costs pretty much as running costs of the likes has been all the years i have been driving.
  19. Maybe the new stat is deffective or something in the coolant system has jammed it open. Reckon the only way to be sure will be to remove it and check its operation. Its not unknown for any new part to be dodgy or fail very quickly
  20. For those away from home then 3.8 miles to the kWh is 38 miles for maybe £4.50 if 45 pence a kWh and anything going up to £8.90 for 38 miles or possible 40. Not great really. Not AWD . Plenty people would rather have some Land Rover vehicle even if only getting 35 miles for £6.50 a gallon. Carrying people and stuff in wintry conditions. Maybe filling stations in areas of plenty of filling stations and a population might not have Diesel Tanks and pumps, but i seriously doubt that happening in the next decade. Getting a few EV chargers in really does not mean removing pumps at many locations. Lots of filling stations have already used up land that has been non economic the way the have the property. Filling stations with chargers are not likely to be the good value / trarrif places to charge.
  21. Strange how the new stat is aparently "open" with cold/cool engine coolant temperature. The (any) stat shouldn't begin to open at say 84C ish and go fully open at ~ 98C. All Vag cars will display 90C between a true coolant temperature of ~ 75C and ~ 107C so your displayed temp should reach 90C well before the stat starts opening/top hose getting hot, you can see my 2019 Polo just reaches a displayed temperature of 90C when the true temperature only reaches 75C, if yours only reaches a displayed 70C, ~ 63C true temperature even while driving then it would appear that this new stat is also passing (even though one would think unlikely) or else installed incorrectly, if this is possible. VW Polo 02092024 Coolant Temp VCDS/Car Display 52 /52 53/55 56/58 58/62 60/65 63/69 64/72 66/74 68/78 69/82 71/84 73/86 74/88 75/89 75/90
  22. Sometimes worn or loose drop links can cause a bit of sway as well.

use low saps oil, it can be also 0w30, C3. 0w30 is supstitution for 5w30, and 0w40 for 5w40. but 4w40 is not low saps oil. it can dmage or destroy DPF filter, if you hace on (not deleted) Key Oil Recommendations for 1.6 TDI: Specifications: VW 507 00 (essential for DPF). Viscosity: 5W-30 (most common) or 0W-30 (e.g., VAG LongLife III FE). Interval: While often marketed as "LongLife" (up to 30,000 km or 2 years), many users recommend changing every 15,000 km or 1 year. Ensure the oil container explicitly states it meets the VW 507 00 standard.
  24. It needs to be on a freshly formatted USB stick with nothing else present, your screenshot suggests that it's in a partition of a USB HDD or SSD, which probably won't work due to power draw constraints. Put it on a USB stick. TBQH I don't use the on board system as it has taken me off course and the licence for it has expired. I use Waze or Google Maps as they tend to be better and more responsive.
  25. Hi all, first post here. I collected this 22k mile Feb 19 registered 2.0 TSI 4x4 earlier in the week, and I'm really chuffed with it. I'm now finding out that there's loads of coding potential with these cars and trying to get my head around that whole thing 😲I had a 66 plate Touraeg earlier this year that I did some basic stuff with via OBDeleven (which I gave away with the car, FFS) but nothing on the level of some of the stuff I've seen here. Anyway, a couple of questions to kick off please. I've tried searching and maybe my skills are lacking, but I couldn't find an answer. Virtual dash - why does this reset every time the car is switched off? I want one of the option screens as the default but it always resets to the OG layout. Blind spot warning - this also keeps turning itself off and I can't figure out why...? I've tried ensuring I'm in "my" profile but it seems to make no difference to these options being saved or not. Cheers.

I've no idea what oil is available in Lisbon in what weight ranges to what specifications, as I put as long as the oil is suitable to the engine and it's use you could have 5w30 or other and then there's the other possibilities I've mentioned. For VW specifications, the info isn't from AI but may still contain error(s) and omission(s) so needs checking, even from manufacturers websites. https://www.oilspecifications.org/volkswagen.php https://www.oilspecifications.org/articles/vw_motor_oil_specifications_explained.php https://penriteoil.com.au/knowledge-centre/Specifications/194/OEM-and-Manufacturers-Approvals/211
  27. Thanks D4 yeah had them replaced a few Months ago.
  28. Hello, welcome to the forum. I'd take a guess that the spring assisters would be aftermarket too - I believe that any changes from the factory for towing pack would involve fitting heavier-rate springs and shock absorbers.
  29. Thanks for the responses! So there are no lights on the dash when it happens. The P171900 code comes in under the air con codes. I am going to get the gas done next week. I did read the crank sensor is a possibility also. Will look to get that changed. I put a new clutch kit into it when I bought it as the bearing was gone. I also changed the oil temp sensor as it came up on a bulletin with the symptoms i'm having. For full clarity my friend is a mechanic and is helping me with this also.
  30. "Is this the memory I’m supposed to connect to?" "I have a black CH341. It reads only zeros and FF. What am I doing wrong?
  31. My money's on worn out strut top bearings but check for anything rubbing on the rotating parts of the steering column.
  32. The packaging in the Kamiq is excellent. You can compare all the key dimensions for passengers on the Skoda web site.
  33. Thanks everyone. No, I don't have any light measuring equipment, and I don't want to ignorantly set my headlights to "cause a problem for others". (I still haven't reached that point in my life where others' constantly doing things that cause a problem for us has pushed me into "don't give a ****, start causing problems for them, too" mode. Yet). I'll raise the issue - pun intended - at my next scheduled service interval.
  34. I think sometimes the tester is just covering their back by over advising due to lack of experience where another would have better knowledge of oxidation and how bad it was. I got tyre advisories at 3.5mm which is over twice the limit and only on one part of the tyres. I do 5,000 miles a year so could be a good while before I change at 3mm across the centre 75%. I suppose it's useful for those who don't do checks themselves which is probably common nowadays

Not on UK spec Mark 3's where it's permanently live. I believe other markets have a fuse that can be moved to make the 12V socket ignition switched.
  36. The coolant expansion tank with a pressure cap, vents anything in excess to a tube and vent hole on the permiter of the cap recess. It flows to the base of the reservoir and to the inner guard of the car beneath.
  37. If you can afford it the NextBase GW622 is very good, but be aware that the latest NextBase cameras rely on a subscription. If you have deep pockets then Viofo 329 series are apparently very, very good, but you're talking in excess of £300 for the higher end models.
  38. Aren’t they the “mood” lights for the cabin? Does your model have the mood lighting option (eg lit led strips in the door panels) and if so are they set to red in the colour menu? Do they come on at the same time as the led strips? Just checked my car and can confirm they are indeed part of the mood light system. They are purple in my car. They come on in dark lighting conditions and go off once it gets lighter.

I'm reasonably sure that the cap doesn't touch the baffle.

I read the orange traingle is a general warning. I also read that you can read the stored messages via the infotainment screen. Not sure how to as mine is a lot older. You could also scan with obd2/vcds to see if there are any stored codes/messages Alasdair
  41. If you like it, why not keep it? I wouldn't listen to anyone who tells you you aren't going to be able to buy diesel, it's what most commercial and large goods vehicles run on and there's no sign of that changing any time soon.

There are small solar panel battery maintainers available for around £30, maybe useful if you leave it so long.
  43. Exceptional practical classic with 22 service stamps. Carefully and correctly maintained by two mature owners. Fully detailed service history with invoices, book pack and original sales brochures. 61,000 miles from new. Car is in Newcastle upon Tyne. £5,000.00. Please call <removed>
  44. I had a similar issue on my Superb 2 litre diesel with 190hp recently. I was initially thinking it could be the dual mass fly wheel, DSG clutch pack or even the DSG related. I was talking to a local indy who suggested it might be the crank position sensor going faulty. Had them change it and car has been good since.
  45. Thanks for reporting back with the conclusion. The thing looks a bit rough in your photo. Gawd knows what cheap chemicals and oil stuffs are used with these cheap parts (or very expensive ones) but you'd want to get rid of the fumes in the wide open fresh air at least, outside an enclosure like a car cabin. £30-40 is high enough but £97 perhaps shows why VW have these things break. febi don't seem to always be as good as they once were with all their parts which seem to be the same made parts others sell under other brand names but that might be the case with Mahle as far as I (don't ) know - but (rightly or wrongly) I'd be happier those brand names than anything off Amazon (I'd sooner go eBay UK anyway).
  46. Hi there. On the mk2 the grill is half covered and not accessible. Saw a YouTube video on my model but it looks really awkward and you are totally blind, without knowing exactly where the catch is you need to push/pull, it looks impossible. Bloke said it took 5 minutes all in, but he already had the bonnet open for the video, highly edited. Was hoping, as I hear its a common issue, that someone on here has achieved the task without taking an angle grinder to it. My model has a very long bonnet, and a big area from grill to mechanism, so a long screwdriver would not even do it, if I wedged the bonnet up a bit with wood. Ho hum.
  47. Don't push him, he could do it! 😂
