  1. I actually don't think that's correct - it's more a case of catering and protecting the lowest common denominator - namely kids or those eligible for Darwin Awards that would pull the plug and stick their tongue on it to see if it was working (and lets face it there are A LOT of those sorts of idiots around. And this ^^ is the solution to the aforementioned issue - it's easy to do by simple replacement of an existing 3-pin outlet with a bespoke socket on each ring main and a corresponding shielded and fused plug on the inverter - just as we have on EVs. Cost would be minimal, as per the cost of a replacement 3-pin outlet (a couple of quid these days), and it resolves the issues of potential electrocution in the event of the plug being removed with the inverter still 'live'. I really don't see what the issue is and why this cannot be incorporated into any legislation that comes forward allowing plug in solar to be made legal - it's not rocket science just common sense (but then a lot of politicians and others wanting it allowed clearly don't have that!).
  2. Updated: I wiped the USB stick on a slow format and used 7-Zip - reapplied update with engine running - at first nothing - then I changed one setting after reading it on a T-Roc forum to select "Great Britain" and "Automatically manage logos" and every single logo (especially Bauer) came up on my display, even community stations! Happy to report on my MIB3 Golf, I'm missing three logos (LBC London, Track Radio and Kisstory) and the Kiss Radio logos are out of date. I've since messaged phonostar in German and requested the logos be updated, and tried to establish a working contact with them for continued updates and changes with a friend who works at a broadcaster in Germany, let's see what happens.
  3. I think useful tests and reviews don't exist anymore - if they ever did. "Reviewers" just repeat PR bullet points fed to them by the company. I mean, usually half the review is about interior LEDs or quirky design details, bull****. Best thing to do is to rent the model you're looking to buy for a day or two...
  4. What he said. While modern AWD systems can easily cope with differences in tyres (Haldex, Torsen, xDrive, 4MATIC, PTM, Magna, etc) it’s always best practice to keep things as similar as possible. This isn’t just for safety and symmetry with regard to grip, but also for making the system work less. Think of it this way - the system already works hard enough to put the power down evenly, depending on which wheel has the most traction, etc - why make it work even harder by having different tyres with different levels of grip, etc? As a rule of thumb, new tyres should always be fitted on the same axle, unless the “old” tyre is the same brand and in almost new condition. New tyres should always be fitted to the rear of the vehicle.
  5. The 2019 SEL is also available with the 110hp engine & 6-speed gearbox. My wife has one.
  6. Saw one system putting in a bit over 810w. One can fave up to 2000w of panels but the system should clip it down to the nominal 800w. Big panels to deal with Spring and Autumn weaker sun. Think it will be next Spring before we see thd big adoption. Batteries ars better for the when Sol hax popped South of the Equator. My small electrical devices load is only about 50w as big devices fed by batteries which have been charged up by solar to cheap lecky. Occasional power draw from the Ring main will be kettle, microwave, oven etc and the balcony plug in solar coukd cover all thd low power device consumption plus part of these heavy weight items but I suspect the overall saving over the ring main will be quite small. Working extending my DC circuit in the house. Less harmonised than AC, sone devices work on 5v, some 12v, some 48v. Bought my first DV step down device. For one of the blockd of solar panel in series so I can feed in one of the MPPT solar controllers. All good fun though i can see i am going to need biuld my only casings with fans to keep save from little one's fingers. Will run it past my qualified electrician son in law for isolation testing etc.
  7. Well 800w and 3.5a are virtually the same thing anyway. Using 230V as a norm, 230 x 3.5 = 805W and as things stand currently, you are only allowed 1 system per house.
  8. Personally, I wouldn’t worry about an occasional trip or journey where you might have to leave it in a low state of charge. In the example you’ve given above I would charge to 100% at the IONITY and remove the following day issue.
  9. Probably will be similar though - on the bottom 'task bar' of the GPS screen, look for the 'View' menu, this has selectable boxes for 2D, 3D, Auto, Day/Night, split-screen and POIs.
  10. Has the world gone completely crazy in the big push for net zero? It would appear that the UK government has now given the green light for the proposed plug-in solar system as of the 27th of August 2026. using a factory-installed and connected 13A BS1363 plugtop but still subject to certain stipulations. A maximum of 800W power out from the inverter must be supplied as an approved kit. You cannot assemble your own kit of parts, i.e., source your own solar panels and a microinverter and connect them together. You also cannot use storage batteries and currently only a single kit per household. So it seems the whole system has been rushed through after just a 2-week consultation period. Unless there is a serious strong backlash from the electrical industry, it will now be a matter of sitting back and waiting for the first failure of the system, and it will happen.
  11. @mdfabia1969 There was a popular (NON Quattro) Audi TT caliper and carrier upgrade for the MkI Fabia back in the day which used 312mm discs so I'd measure your disc diameter in the first instance. IIRC 310mm discs were also used.
  12. Quite possibly not original - I'd not expect to see an Audi logo on OEM Fabia calipers.
  13. On Amundsen MIB2 units there is a menu setting that allows the display to show positioning data as an overlay on the left-side of the screen - typical data is; Lat/long; altitude; number of satellites, etc. I believe later units will also display this data.
  14. I have used any, but there are gps diagnostic apps for iOS, and presumably Android, which gives the number of satellites and strength of the location fix. Now, AIUI, when connected to CarPlay (and I assume AndroidAuto) the phone gets its gps location fix from the in car antenna and unit. Potentially, one of the diagnostics apps will show the satellites. Maybe worth a try 🤷‍♂️…
  15. If there is a 'Split-screen' setting on your head unit, switching display to that should show the number of Satellites in view - E.g. a satellite icon and x-x for number in view and signal strength. If insufficient satellites are being received, plotted position will be fairly random.
  16. This is what I meanted
  17. If u have a genuine heated windscreen, it will have a purple haze/tinge to it, in the sunlight. Otherwise it will b a normal greenish haze/tinge.
  18. How old is the battery and what voltage is it when car off and cranking and running. If the voltage is ok check terminals/earths for corosion. It may be that when car is warm something like a corroded terminal/bad connection etc is causing voltage drop and puting up random faults when heating up. Seems unusual that both front ABS sensors have failed together? Anti skid warning and steering wheel warning come on when battery is disconnected so if the voltage is dropping too low they may come on. Alasdair
  19. Best peole rememeber from the factory on factory fit tyres the speedo overeads. Increase in circumference usually has nearer accurate. When not too oversized.
  20. The actual antenna is prone to corrosion and loosing signal over time. Mine was changed under warranty.
  21. Is it not stamped with the manufacturer and model number? If so be easier calling them and saying is this heated yay or nay? And it’s far too hot to be thinking of this
  22. but the antenna is...
  23. Gap Insurance? My policy will give me the list price of a replacement car if written off....
  24. The GPS is not on the roof
  25. 127 cm fitted, no chance of 135 cm fitting as there's less than 2 cm adjustment on each side at the rear. The new 7104 feet are much easier to fit/remove than the old 775's Before with 118 cm bars After with 127 cm bars
  26. I'd think you would quickly be able to feel the change in screen temperature if switched on while it was cooler - rather like the heated mirrors.
  27. It dosn't matter if the wheels are different sizes. For instance, a spare wheel may well have a different rolling diameter, but when the system is reinitiallised it will take it into account.
  28. Most people still turn up their noses at a Skoda so thefts of them are very rare - I've owned one since 2005 and parked in some areas of London known for a high incidence of car theft with no issues.
  29. Aren't the terminals in the bottom left corner (facing out the windscreen)?
  30. Hi thanks for the reply. No it's once I'm driving. Start the car and the windows will work for 10 minutes. So iif I lower them when I set off and drive for more than 10 minutes they stop working. So when I get to my destination the only way to put them up is to lock the car with the key, then unlock. The windows then work for another 10 minutes. Really annoying.
  31. Yeah get rid of them trees! 🤭
  32. auto glass claim warranty for the lifetime of your ownership of the vehicle. So I would be going back to them. But I suspect you will end up in an endless loop of auto glass blame Skoda. Skoda blame auto glass. Repeat.
  33. The heated screen used on VAG kit do not have filaments. They have a silver layer in the sandwich which heats and deforests the screen.
  34. The rain sensor connections will be towards top-centre of the screen, behind the rear-view mirror mount. Assuming that the heated screen worked correctly before Autoglass replaced it, you should have taken it back to them. How long does Autoglass warrant?
  35. I love the bit about the receptionist and costing money - when did main dealers become so mercenary - speaking to one of the actual grease monkeys rather than a front of house female is impossible these days.....?
  36. Reckon its just bad luck. Only windscreen that went on me was on an old Fiat 131. Old school non laminated one that exploded into little bits. Scared the **** out of me. Saw the big stone come out between lorry wheels in front of me and bang. It could maybe be the angle of windscreen or perhaps they are being made thinner these days to lighten car that makes them more prone to cracking. Hope as you have had two go you wont have any more for the next 500k at least Alasdair
  37. Sideskirts fitted over the weekend, took it out to some sunlight
  38. Hi rum4mo - I did what you suggest, and found where one of the screws belonged (underneath the front spoiler area), and put it back. I also found another screw on the floor that I had missed, which turned out to be one I had removed unnecessarily, which also belonged in that same general area, but wasn't actually holding the wheelarch liner on, but another piece of trim under the front end of the car. I put that back too. So I'm still down by one. I think the last one belongs in the rear face of the wheel arch, holding it against the subframe, but the corresponding hole in the subframe doesn't have a spire nut in it, so the screw won't hold. I was under the impression that this problem already existed before I started work, but maybe it was my doing, after all. I can't find the spire nut on the floor and I don't have another one. The other side of the car is slightly different in its placement of screws, apparently by design. The other side also has one screw missing, and must have been that way for at least as long as I have had the car (nearly two years). I suppose I could put my "spare" screw in that hole. Certainly VW Group will not have fitted extra screws "just for a laugh", but I have to assume they have followed sound engineering principles and built some redundancy into the design. I propose to leave it as-is.
  39. Hi guys, so I was able to retrofit an audi/vw rear view camera on my 2012 Octavia Vrs, as I didn’t like how the aftermarket one made for this car looked as it was covering the number plate underneath, I also have a Vw RCD360 Pro 2 which supports rear camera and 8k Ops parking sensors. If anyone has any questions regarding this retrofit please ask as I am happy to help! After doing all of this, I am struggling to find the right piano black frame around the stereo, does anyone know where I can get one in Piano Black or the original carbon effect? Thanks
  40. This can happen a lot. Doofy is right software issues bug a lot of VAG group cars. When the software works it works quite well. Dealers do not seem to like to do software updates despite the fact they are obliged to do so. They should check each time the car goes for service but they don't. It'll tell you in the handbook that the dealer should take care of it. I don't know if it's a training issue or the fact it's not chargeable work but you have to insist and get past the "we can't as our computer is down" excuse. Your problem could be connected with a failed update that the previous owner attempted or it could be caused by the car not being properly deregistered from the pervious owners My Skoda account. Perversely it could also be caused by the car not being properly registered to Your My Skoda app. I could write on this a lot more but best if you tell us which infotainment system your car has. The handbook should give you a clue and you can find a copy on this site or on the Skoda web site if the paper copy has gone missing. One thing to check is you are not in any sort of privacy or semi privacy mode. Some updates come OTA and may not install correctly. Of course as with all things computer just turning it off, waiting 5 minutes and turning it on might work. (i.e. re-boot the infotainment by turning it completely off with the button, turning off the ignition does not turn off the infotainment it just put it to sleep.)
  41. If you change from 225/40-19 to 225/45-19 you should inform your insurance provider. As that is not a standard tyre size for your model of Karoq they will consider the change a modification. If you have a claim an undeclared mod gives them a reason to reject your claim , or at reduce the payout. Such a change of tyre spec will also cause inaccuracy in the speedo reading (under read).
