High beam assist seems to be on special offer at the moment. I've just purchased it for £125 instead of the usual £180. I have the option appearing correctly on the menu, but I haven't driven in the dark yet to try it out.

I have a 2018 Petrol Estate, with what I believe is the Bolero infotainment screen - no built-in satnav but happily accepted being plugged into my Samsung Galaxy Android phone. When I bought the car a couple of years ago and plugged in, that more or less set itself up. I've just swapped to a Nothing Phone 2a, also Android, largely because the connection/charging socket on the Samsung was getting less and less reliable, and sometimes dropped contact halfway round a roundabout. (It wasn't just in the car, nor with that cable, its contact was unreliable with other cables too in other places.) Sadly the Nothing phone, while it cheerfully says it's charging, so I guess the physical connection is good, doesn't appear to want to connect to the app for navigation. For some reason the screen now identifies something as "142" which it didn't offer before, but still below that offers me the green rectangles labelled with Android or Mirror connection. When it was in a good mood, just plugging the Samsung in was enough, once it had established what it was. Now I get a pause, then "connection failed". So - firstly - is anyone else using a "Nothing" phone successfully? Secondly - Any suggestions for how to get it talking as a satnav, seeing as that was a large point of buying it, would be most gratefully received, please. OccyVRS, Can I politely beg you to go for the option, please. I think rear wipers should be mandatory and not optional anyway. Yes, you only need it occasionally, but when you do need it you really do need it. I recently bought a nearly-new L&K. The original owner spent £50k+ on the car, but didn't add the £150 option! And now I miss the wiper every time it rains. I guess I could get one retro-fitted, but that would probably cost more than I spent on the whole car 😁 On reliability ... I had my last Superb for over 10 years and the rear wiper never failed me. The washer did stop for a little while, but my local garage cleared that up at no charge so it could not have been a significant problem.

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out for help with some issues regarding my Skoda Octavia 2021 2.0TDI DSG 106HP. The first problem is that I can hear and feel the gear shifts through the accelerator pedal, but only when the car is cold right after I start driving; this issue appeared quite recently. The second problem which I’ve searched for all over the internet is that the engine revs up on its own. When I lift my foot off the accelerator and move it to the brake pedal (without actually pressing the brake), the engine revs up slightly, going from 1,000 to 2,000–2,500 RPM. It’s a strange issue, and I can't find any other way to describe it. Another issue is that a metallic rattling sound is heard when shifting from 3rd to 4th gear; I haven't been able to figure out what it is, either. And the last problem is a metallic sound I hear when reversing with the steering wheel turned all the way. Based on my research, I suspect it might be the brake pads. My problem was as follows: - recently, I had a problem with the MIB III, a defect appeared on the motherboard (diagnosed at the SKODA service representative) which led to the fact that the image of the reversing camera disappeared; - the conclusion of the SKODA service representative was the need to replace the MIB III; - the price offered by the SKODA service representative was exorbitant; - the defective MIB III had the following characteristics: PN 5E3035816H Hardware H56 Software 1985 (from USB) What I did: - I bought a MIB III from a dismantling center - I went to a dedicated center and replaced the MIB III unit - the components were transferred ONLINE via ODIS and other software applications Result: - the old MIB III successfully replaced - the components work correctly - the new MIB III has the following characteristics: PN 5E3035816F Hardware H56 Software 1810 Now, to bring the new MIB III unit to a software version that is as current as possible, can I do a gradual update? If so, what would be the safe steps and possibly some links for those updates, that would be welcome! Thanks in advanced!

Daughter had the vw UP with the 1litre mpi and it was a great little car. Ideal for around town and surprisingly nippy and gave her no real problems apart from a flexi exhaust failing. Check its got a reasonable service history and also have a look on MOT history to see if its failed on anything and if underbody corrosion is mentioned. We were looking for a car for my son a few years back and its amazing the amount of cars that looked good but had failed previously with things like tyres down to canvas, brake pads worn out ,no handbrake, One even had dangerous fault due to subframe loose which I reckon points to a car that;s not been looked after or serviced regularly. We went for a mk1 1.2 fabia with very low miles. Alasdair

Not sure on the suberb but on my octavia the handbrake mechanism on caliper was stiff and making it difficult to pull handbrake on. No sticking calipers but only one side was working properly. It could also be a failing handbrake cable thats got corosion inside and seizing. Get someone to pull handbrake and make sure the rear calipers mechanism and cables are moving and returning freely. You can adjust the handbrake to take up stretching etc but doubt it would help with the stiffness. Alasdair

2Q0 Camera? TSR have SwaP Protection

Hi everyone, I have a 2021 Škoda Kodiaq with a working camera (I have Lane Assist) but it has PR code QR8 (no Traffic Sign Recognition). Because it's a 2021 model with an MIB3 system and SFD protection, a standard VCDS tweak won't cut it. I need someone with VCP or ODIS who can flash the correct camera dataset onto the A5 Front Camera Module to enable TSR. Is there anyone near Thatcham, Newbury, or Reading who has the kit to do this? Happy to travel and cover cost for your time!

They will help keep it clean if slightly sooted but wont work if its heavily sooted up or a high ash content. If your DPF light is coming on its normally that the dpf is blocked. My 1.6tdi revs increase at idle if doing a regen but if the rad fan comes on after engine switch off its a failed regen. Never had a dpf light. Problem with dpf is you need to do regular long runs to keep them clean. We used to but not any more so if I notice rev increase at idle around 950rpm I give it a 20-30 min blast down the road at 2500rpm if I caan until idle drops to around 750rpm. Reckon the next one will be petrol. Alasdair

Just getting back here.. Everybody can take a breather for a couple of days to think, reflect, and question whether this particular discussion is actually going to resolve to a consensus or is it going to spin in circles for another 4yrs of back and forth polarised views that will never be changed and whining. @thamestrader That is the point. Oranges & Lemons or Peaches & Pears. DSG,s from different eras & evolutions, Pre WLTP and Post WLTP. Different engines from different years, and it matters if the vehicle has a e-Brake or manual parking brake. There are differences from 2008-2026, or from 2013-2026. Someplace a few years back there were some features and characteristics that to me seemed perfect on some VW Group models.

Alright, first things first, feedback after a little over a week with the TVS Stage 2+ tune! For someone who mainly does city driving, it’s been a massive improvement. Since it’s almost always a gear lower than the stock logic, the car is much more responsive to your throttle input. It hovers closer to 1800-2000rpm during city driving, meaning there isn’t much of a delay when attempting to make a quick overtake at low speeds. There’s no downside in terms of fuel consumption or noise, it’s merely closer to how you’d drive a manual car without lugging the engine. As you get to ~90km/h, you’re back in 7th gear as you would’ve been before. Shifts are slightly quicker, and 1-2 shifts when cold are seamless. I went with the following options: 1st gear disengaged, manual kick down disabled, auto-downshift deactivation in manual mode, and of course, gear indicator enabled. If you’re not planning on upping the power however, the drivability tune will get you most of the way there and you definitely won’t be disappointed. I’ve confirmed that the Revo sale is applicable at my local dealer and I’ll be there in a couple of days for a Stage 1 flash.

Small update. Got it into my local garage. They diagnosed the fault as the steering angle sensor which is in the steering wheel assembly. This part is apparently component protected so has to go to a main dealer. Booked in for 10th August.

Yes all the dealers needed to do to add the menu was run software configuration on the BCM however even such a basic task seems to complex for them

What so many of you all are wilfully ignoring is the many Luddites, as you call us (which is disrespectful; we don't call you evangelists, do we?), are that we can see that BEVs or something similar will eventually take over as the fuel of the future. There is plenty of evidence of that being the case, other than the one that you all keep eluding to, that of global warming and its causes. You all love to claim that it is the result of us burning fossil fuels and putting toxic emissions in the air, when there is evidence to suggest that actually is not true at all. Let's look at the one that so many of you keep referring to, that of air quality leading to loads of premature deaths as a direct result of tailpipe emissions. So how do you square that with the fact that life expectancy has risen dramatically over the years? It is a fact the UK has far better air quality with lower PM. 2.5 in the air than Hong Kong, which also has a far higher average temperature than the UK. UK life expectancy is 80.208 as opposed to Hong Kong's figure of 85.68 years. I was born in 1949, and following the graph across, I have already exceeded the expected life of 1950 by something like 2.5 times that figure, hmm. The UK has an average of 8-11 microg/m³ of PM2.5 compared to Hong Kong's average of 15-17 microg/m³ of PM2.5. The UK has 2.1M BEVs, while Hong Kong only has 80,000. The average annual temperature for the UK is 10°C, while for Hong Kong it is 23°C. Density of population per sq. kilometre: UK = 258; Hong Kong = 6,755 So the UK has an annual lower temperature, better air quality, lower population density and far more BEVs but a way shorter life expectancy. Hmm, something is not quite adding up to support the claims that more BEVs, fewer emissions, etc. Clearly, there are other factors at play here.
