  1. Just to close this off, a small discount and refundable deposit while I go and find a car to sit in at the weekend mean this one's now mine pending success this weekend. Thanks for all your help!
  2. A few years ago I bought an Octavia MK1, to find out a few days later that there was water ingress showing in the rear passenger footwell, left-hand side. Its origin: the rear left door. At some point the window elevator was replaced and not only the plastic film was missing, but a bubble wrap green plastic had been left inside the door for no apparent reason (with the skoda logo and all), directing water to where it shouldn't be. I cleaned the inside of the door, bought an original plastic film, used an hair dryer to get rid of all the moist and it has been fine for around 5 years. The rest of the doors were also inspected later, only to find out that all the protective films were missing or damaged, probably because these cars are prone to window elevator malfunctions. I replaced the foam films in both front doors (16€ each), and the plastic film in the remaining rear door (7€). Part numbers for the protective films (In Portugal, LHD): 1U4 868 395 F - protective foil for front left door 1U4 868 396 F - protective foil for front right door 1U4 868 399 - protective foil for rear left door 1U4 868 400 - protective foil for rear right door @Funkoid If the plastic film in the boot lid is not there doing its job, it may be the culprit for the water ingress. I have also tried to buy that one, but it was discontinued by Skoda. Part number: 1U9 867 141 - boot lid protective film

Much of the tax you pay as a motorist is via fuel taxation, unless you drive a tiny annual mileage. As CO2 output is inversely proportional to mpg you still have a strong incentive to own/drive cars with low real CO2 because you'll spend less on fuel, and so less tax.
  5. I can see you are investing heart and soul into this enterprise
  6. well later never happened last wednesday. it didnt happen thursday either. so Friday i got out, nice ride out. then saturday morning was a bit nicer.. and today was a fun one. i couldve done with 4 hrs more sleep, but it was an enjoyable pedal. avg speed was up a bit too, which i put down to dropping a couple of sprockets and getting ip outa the saddle for a 500m "sprint" to the top of the bypass hill. felt that in the thighs...

Daftest idea I've seen in a long time !! If you like and respect your car leave this well alone. Have a look for used roof bars and boxes on E Bay. All sorts of grit and dirt will get trapped between that bag and your roof and it will act like sandpaper and will abrade the roof.
  8. Yes there are two timing belts if it is the 1.4 16v petrol engine. Here's a video...

  10. Any decent diagnostic software will be able to target the blower motor and activate it to see if it spins up.

Many ( 13 + ) tax bands in 2003, from £0.00 to £580.00 PA. see here :- https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-for-cars-registered-on-or-after-1-march-2001 I bought a new car in 2003 which was £85.00 PA then, but went down to £30.00 by 2016 when I sold it. Thanks, AG Falco
  12. Thanks both. I hope to be looking at such a car tomorrow and I can't see SLA listed in the features list. I suppose though that there's so much tech in the car that they can't think of and include everything in the list.
  13. was cold this morning (frost) and the brake pad warning light stayed illuminated on starting (even though both wires soldered together at wheel end). Usually subsequent trips throughout the day do not have the light illuminated. so I went ahead with the earth bridge discussed above (joining pins 1 and 8) on the 8 pin connector behind cluster, took about 5 mins. Used some heavy duty solid copper house wire as it fitted firmly alongside the pin bodies in the back of the connector. Light now stays off, but it always did after first start, so real test will be tomorrow morning. if it works, we'll see how long it takes me to remove this temporary fix and do properly , and if it doesn't work then I'll have to look at the PCB connections again...
  14. Superb ones are much more common than the Octy ones and it’s such a handy feature IMO. Hope they work for you
  15. Thanks Sasha, looking on ebay there are replacements for around £250 a pair with a 2 year warranty which is a bit more palatable
  16. It was a £100 option on the L&K from that year.
  17. Brilliant! Thanks for letting me know. I’ll join you in a celebratory pint... 🍺
  18. Result! Thanks for that. And it just happens to be one of the most obvious settings!

Too many people buying low CO2 cars meant the Governments 'take' on Road Tax fell a lot, so they decided they needed to change to system so there's no longer any incentive to run a low CO2 car. My 2015 Octavia (119g/km) is £30, my (now gone) 2008 C1 (109g/km) was £20 but it's replacement 2020 Aygo (99g/km) will be £155!
  20. For the Columbus it’s in Menu —> Settings —> Voice Control. You can Enable/Disable the use of the Activation Word. Not tried it myself though...
  21. Thanks guys ! I have not seen a Monte Carlo Skoda Fabia and the stock lamps are good old xenons. A HID kit sans projector is just evil and unfair to the other guys. May be plonk a set of leds or a set of baja design squadrons will do. as for the rest i don’t like the brakes of the vehicle since day 1 - they leave a bit to be desired. The suspension quoted was adjustable coil overs with anti sway bars and spacers (a low gc ain’t possible in my country). will look around and if all else flops will ask a tuner in the UK to hook me up as I will be visiting my family there. Shark seems to be out of the reckoning, Custom code website is na - any other contenders? the ICE I assembled in the car is good ( Rockford amps and front speakers with a Diamond D2 sub ) still just the HU is dated and I want something with Apple car play. rest are all small cosmetic jobs and will be done gradually.
  22. Can you be a bit more specific? Are you talking about wheel centre caps?
  23. SKODA Superb III 3V0 3V1863077 should be ashtray enclosure, but instead of ashtray there should be phone compartment.
  24. The OE steel space saver for the Superb 2 is 6Jx16 with a 205/55/R16 94V tyre. The one above is probably the one for the Superb 3. If you're not picky, any of the OE wheel sizes fit in the wheel well, though the 18 pushes up the carpet a bit.
  25. Here is my 1.0 e-tec with ST lowering springs and a Gyeon coating. Only 7 weeks left until I switch to an Audi. The 1.0 doesn't do it for me, I'm used to driving cars between 300 and 1500hp, this one even can't keep up with the average mom in her Vauxhall Meriva.
  26. and this help was brought about only because of @Wino finding your mention of not being familiar with "doors" being a bike guy funny

Think you were right - reading through the section of the manual again it makes sense that Full LED lights are the Matrix headlights. On my first few readings I assumed there was a non-LED headlight version - but there is no mention of Matrix in the manual. Wouldn’t it be great if the various departments called the same thing by the same name! For a marketeer I guess Matrix Headlights has a bit more punch than Full LED ;-)
  28. 205/55/16 7.5j ET45 steel wheel in my estate 2011
  29. Ended up just removing the entire hub, and then go bananas with a hammer, couldnt get nowhere near enough force from below. Funny part was that the bolts came loose from the caliper carrier without the need of tools, so it was just the no treaded part in the hub that was glued/welded
  30. Wow Shelock Homes, you solved the mystery. Tyres wren't that good in terms of fuel effeciency. I remember checking the label before buying but fogot the alphabet right now. so you thinking because of brand new tyres the consumption decreased.
  31. Because he already has the light bar from a pug. Because rally cars have them.

  33. LEDs do not do left-right. Bi-Xenons do. I had BiXenon on the old car and LEDs on this one and the difference is distinctive. MySkoda should do vehicle information based on VIN. Elsewhere (Sweden, for example) you can get it based on numberplate.
  34. Exactly that. No problem will result. I think it only comes into play when the demand is at or near 100%. At that point some 'luxury' current consumers like heated seats or auxiliary PTC electric cabin heaters might be inhibited until the rpm rises (which naturally increases alternator capability) or other demands decrease (e.g. heated rear screen).
  35. If you log in to the Skoda Connect Portal (https://www.skoda-connect.com) and click on Licenses you'll see whether your data connections/services are active and when they expire. I have three services - proactive service (SOS call etc), Remote Access (driving data, vehicle status etc), Infotainment online (Online map updates, online traffic information, etc). All active. However, no mention of internet radio though it seems logical that it would need the infotainment online service. My Apple CarPlay is connected to the car via bluetooth and wifi and so far happily streams Spotify, and Waze navigation - so presumably is using the car's internet connection. Whether that is Cubic or not I don't know - I contacted Cubic to find out what data limit there was (in terms of Gb download). Apparently, I don't have a Cubic service! Rather, they think it is the "We Connect services on your MMI" whatever that is... (I presume it's part of the first year connectivity bundled with the car, Cubic kicks in water if we choose to buy it. BUT that is only my assumption, and happy to be corrected if need be).
  36. TBH ive stopped griping about the system as it does the weirdest things such as wanting to change my vehicle settings every start. Wants to change backgrounds etc. Software is programmed to do something and do something. I hear the gripes are across the whole VAG group. Internet radio , havent seen it ever work. If anyone knows how to get it to work , please do. If the internet radio costs money ,, well **** THAT!!!
  37. MkI, '51, tdi, ambiente, the most reliable car ever owned, including 2each Mb's and 2each Bmw's all from new. Mk 2 L&K tdi, day '55, not as well made as Mk1 but still very good. both still in daily use, secret of success? Keep away from main dealer servicing and maintenance!
  38. A shot of my vRS from when I found it at the end of a rainbow!
  39. Converted rear lighter socket to dual quick charge usb with switch, following @JR RS example. In fairness, if I had seen @digifish simpler solution, I would have gone for that, but I had already ordered. See the gandalf thread for details of both those options. And yes, I know it needs straightening, but my knuckles are grazed enough for the moment
  40. They are plentiful on eBay for under £200 per strut. It’s far nicer to have the power tailgate IMO, would cost you over £200 to swap back to manual struts if you had to buy struts, ball joints, a boot lock and a coding tool just for this job. I had one go on my Octy and it was a faulty hall sensor so I took the signal from the good hall sensor on the other side and repinned the connection. Free fix
  41. A nice clean yesterday. Nothing wildly different from my initial post, but I didn't need to use fallout remover and I also paid quite a lot of attention to the glass. I just wanted to highlight this new gadget I picked up; Forensic Detailing - Halfords Window Cleaner Absolutely awesome! Made it a much easier and more pleasant task. I, like John in the vid, always found the internal side of a windscreen to be a nightmare to do, so this was a welcome addition to my detailing kit! It was really useful for the inside of the sunroof, as well as all of the exterior glass.
  42. Not sure when anyone said the 150PS AWD DSG 7 seater couldn't tow, since the title is about the manual version and not the DSG.
  43. Out of interest, Phil, what website did you use to get the info based on your VIN? Cheers
  44. Washed and waxed yesterday. I use turtle wax ceramic wash, 303 touchless sealant, and Bowden's own carnauba wax. It is super clean and super shine now.
  45. I had one replaced some years back and yes, it was a dash out job. I have heard of people suggesting you can semi remove stuff and struggle but a dealer/good independent would remove the whole lot quicker and perhaps have less chance of breaking anything else. It was around £400-£500, as I recall but that is based around London, where labour charges are most likely higher and done by a very well respected independent VAG repair place, using genuine parts. Been working properly ever since so since the three days of summer will be here soon, it may well be worth getting done. Oh, BTW, the fan its-self was quite a pricey variant, in excess of two hundred quid, if memory serves.
  46. 1.8 will get you multilink suspension. This reason alone is enough to purchase for me. Also I think it has bigger better brakes (I may be wrong though).

Ordered an Enyaq 60 Lounge with heat pump to replace my Tesla Model 3, this will be my 12th Skoda and the Tesla my shortest lived car at 12 months and only 6,800 miles driven. Just could not get on with everything being touch screen controlled and no ability to use Google Maps instead of their open source system that's still using 2019 maps.
  48. I dont know what cranked over means but yeah. I was lucky I was in town so I limped it back home. Just. I imagine some of the more rural parts of the UK would be as bad as me. My car is in decent nick but the roads around me are killing the standard bushes in my car. New drop links not too long ago and now something else is starting to clunk in the front.
