  1. Goodbye summer, see you next year.
  2. It's extremely unlikely that any brake disc or brake pad is made in any Audi or VW group factory. They use a supplier that makes them to their spec'. Provided the pads and discs are made by a reputable company there is nothing wrong with them. Some of them may even be better than original ones.
  3. EV smuggists should learn to focus their arguments on urban air quality, where they do have 'clear' advantages.
  4. You can prove that, not only did Zoe charge from renewables, but that said use of them did not result in someone else using fossils to heat and/or light their home, or cook, or make something?

The paint on my MK4 was okay but I was disappointed in the stone chip on the windscreen, from a stone so small I didn't even see it when it hit the window directly in my line of sight (leaving a chip directly in my line of sight....which is the dealers problem, as it was rejected months ago. Take THAT Skoda!). For what it's worth, I don't particularly hang back from anything, as flying stones are so random. The one that hit the MK4 was from a car travelling in the opposing direction which somehow sent a stone flying forwards. I've had a car years ago being hit on the rear window by a stone thrown up from a vehicle two lanes away on the other side of the A1. Stone chips are down to the stone chip Gods unfortunately, and not worth worrying about.
  6. you keep getting sunsets, i keep getting sunrises yesterday morning from the top of long hill, after pedalling on up there.
  7. It's not relevant where I work or who I work for, the information (unlike yours) is accurate. What on earth do you mean by "Some can be done on the nod"? I've spent my entire life in the motor industry and approved dealers have always carried out the bulk of warranty repairs on their judgement. Parts are returned and tested and the manufacturer subjects them to stringent audits that can result in some cases I've seen of hundreds of thousands of pounds being taken back against a SINGLE dealer with a group. They have ever reason to do everything right by their customer but do nothing wrong to make them financially liable particularly when audits of for example one hundred random claims are extrapolated across all for a lengthy period. The fines are massive and can even extend to removing a significant discount on parts that have a considerable knock on effect. As for "duff gen" you have no idea what you're talking about and have an overinflated sense of self-importance or an axe to grind. A buyer of a car has so much protection a dealer wouldn't dare to set a foot wrong if seriously challenged.
  8. A car sold with only 10.5k is not likely to be a part exchange vehicle the dealer would be obliged to carry out the full multi-point check adhering to all the standards laid down by the manufacturer. This is almost certainly a vehicle leased by a VAG employee or provided for company use and there lots of them although like all used vehicles they'll be in short supply now. These are vehicles that have to be returned to a very high cosmetic standard and are then auctioned off to dealers, often in blocks of cars. In many cases they are prepped by the manufacturer or their agent and are ready for retail. Under these circumstances the manufacturer's warranty will always apply. Some dealers will do safety and software checks however they've paid a premium price for having to do no prep work so many don't because sales never want to pay service departments. The OP mentioned he noticed the braking issue on the motorway. Few dealers have the luxury to test vehicles under these conditions and a local four mile test would be very much the norm. Is the dealer responsible for defects like this, YES but they will claim on the manufacturer's warranty that applies throughout the stated period irrespective of change of ownership and sales through a dealer. IF over that then a whole different set of rules fall into place.
  9. in fairness there should be no need to change anything, you have simply replaced the rack. as far as I'm aware there is no electronics "in the rack" that can be set / adjusted with VCDS What you will probably find is that the "new" rack has no play at all in any joints where as your old one was probably pretty worn so "felt" easier. I would be tempted to drive it for a few hundred miles before doing anything else, it may well "loosen up"
  10. I bet there are some people dumb enough to actually go driving around deliberately to use up fuel so that they can refill their tanks after queueing for a while.
  11. @MX-5they never left the Skoda Factory with that good discs and and pads so the £90 ones can exceed the OEM. The dealership quoting £700 is fitting nothing very special but are charging the price of very special parts sourced cheaply.
  12. Yeah, I do autosolos and targa rallies. I bought the car modified. Some spec details. It's done 23k only. Full bolt-in roll cage inc door bars and single rear diagonal Gaz Gold adjustable suspension with (I think, see above) raised ride height Two fixed bucket seats Two 4 point harnesses with aircraft buckles (seat belts removed) Sparco dished alcantara steering wheel with top centre yellow marking 15" alloys from a mk4 Golf GTi (I think), painted white for extra speed 4 spare 15" alloys as above (although two don't hold air, but that's ok as I have pairs to carry as spares) 6 spare 14" Compomotive MO alloys, painted white 1.4, 100bhp but with an induction kit and remap. Maybe 110-115bhp but who knows - I've not been to a Rolling Road yet in it. Rally tripmeter (Terratrip 202) - but never used and think it's missing the correct probe to the wheel that's needed Hella Rallye 3000 spotlights (removable) 8mm alloy sump and tank guards, both removable (the sump guard has holes drilled in so it doesn't fill with water). Spare wheel post in boot for two spare wheels Map light for the passenger Air con delete Rear wiper delete Sound deadening removed Rear door window mechanisms removed (rear glass is fixed, rear doors still open) Custom dash centre panel with horn button (plus three other non-functioning buttons) Rear seats cushions present and in place (to meet Targa regs) but strapped down under the roll cage. 13. HI Some things to note. My 1.4 Yeti has no pad wear indicator, even though the replacement pads have the buried contact These days, pads and discs wear at at more similar rates than of old, and if you replace pads and not discs or vice versa then you are faced with a wait whilst a new flat part beds in to a worn uneven one. Disc rusting is highly influenced by how long the vehicle stands in a wet or damp atmosphere, and for some reason is often worse on the inner faces you can't see. If you use the brakes lightly, the rear discs don't get polished off and are more prone to rust Rear disc removal for most models needs a special triple square socket to remove a very tight bolt, which may thwart DIY Conclusion, your brakes may indeed be due for renewal - but shop around for the work.
  14. Good news this morning. The car is in Emden. Just waiting for a ship, might take a bit longer due to fewer cars to fery. Then hopefully a short wait, depending on the availability of lorry drivers, so perhaps another 3 weeks. Oredered end of May, build week 28 or 29, (can't remember which), and I was expecting it mid-October. So timing looks about right.

What sort of sorcery was that?! I will make a sacrifice to the stone chip Gods - a PPF at the front... I'm a bit of a perfectionist, unfortunately, so once I see a defect, I cannot un-see it and haunts me in my dreams, lol. Also, I'm concerned that if I had 5-6 stone chips already for the 5 months I had the car, what will happen in a couple of years time...
  16. Was away in Cornwall. No internet really. drove to local Sainsbury’s to drop off recycling found a queue at the wadi round the block. Penzance. popped 13l of unleaded in at the next stop for insurance. drove 90miles to another stop, with a queue. Decided to drive around the queue, reversed in and filled up. another stint saw us up in the midlands. Closed forecourt but shop open. Popped in had a dry sandwich and asked if it was ok to fill up. Apart from no diesel, we filled the tank. drove the rest of the way back on that fill. I have to say that, there were some quite confused faces seeing my mates van filling it’s tank quite happily. Us with a slight grin. teo sided really, wed of been more than happy to be stranded in Cornwall till this all passed. as it was we had no excuse and no problem getting fuel. something to be said for a LPG conversion after all then. All the way to and back from Lincoln to Cornwall on gas and it’s only 79p a litre. And no queues at the pump. that said, it does look and feel like panic. the last one was the same. Eventually it will settle. I just feel sorry for the sensible non panic users who will suffer. still feel a key workers scheme should be set up to avoid this. Imagine, sorry your op is cancelled, seemed someone brimmed there car this am and the nurse behind could not come in… and that someone was you.
  17. Welcome mate. Also a newbie here based in the central belt.
  18. If I remember correctly, no blackline got bluetooth as standard so the 'Phone' button working as mute is completely normal... That being said, they normally have an Amundsen+ (RNS-315) fitted - most of these do have the BT hardware installed but disabled. If you want to check, remove the headunit from the car and look for a sticker with a MAC address. If it's 00:00:00:00:00:00 then it doesn't have BT built in, if it's any other numbers, then you're in luck. Assuming that's the case, you just need to add a microphone and enable BT in the headunit coding This thread might help:
  19. Different spot for this evening's sunset
  20. Whatever, you claim to have done many things. I'm done with this and others can take what they want.
  21. THANK YOU SO MUCH PROBLEM IS SORTED 🙂🙃☺️❤️
  22. @BBF or the sender got stuck that one time and tricked you in to thinking you had more fuel than you did. If you’ve ran the car down until the warning light comes on (a bit risky at present) and have covered the appropriate mileage I’d say you’re all good and it was a one off.

    Thank you @AnnoyingPentium!
  24. Poor Tesla drivers - my Skoda EV ownership has been a horrendous experience - 9 month old broke down and has taken over 4 months to repair with terrible lack of communication and complete lack of ownership by Skoda UK to manage the battery repair - the car was returned with a dirty interior, full of cobwebs and a layer of debris & dust …. Its like the car was sent to a back street garage for repair. Lost complete faith in the brand and certainly not leaving it plugged in to the charger whilst the family are asleep !

Thanks, No manual labour should be required, I mostly get stuck on technical issues. I have four other cars and have managed to keep them up to scratch over the past years but they haven`t got all the tec toys that the Karoq have.
  26. Fair play George... Plonker comment re the Audi driver retracted in that respect... although I still think he's a plonker for having that much petrol in the back of his estate in what appear to be unsuitable container's...
  27. I had that single most senior moment there..... apologies 🤣🤡
  28. I think the weight can be adjusted on vcds so perhaps that needs looking in to as your old one may have been set lighter.
  29. I mean for you, because you don't have to muck about arguing the toss or paying extra.
  30. Pet hate. Vehicles that only have lights aligned after failing their first MOT. & Upgraded Dipped Beam poorly set, or additional lights that help a driver, just not the ones not in their car. Always a good move once upgraded lights to stand on the pavement and have your car driven along so you can see what others see. IMO. Or drive a car and have someone follow in your car so you see what others will. I was not giving advice just pointing out the obvious that seems to be missed by many, including those with cornering fog lights that turn their steering wheel while sitting waiting to turn. Even an Advanced driver would not thinking a random 1 extra light coming on is clever. Sitting at roadworks, traffic lights in the dark waiting in the front car and as a vehicle or cyclist comes through on green they turn their steering and shine an additional light at the person coming forward. 'Simply not clever'. Or enabling the Front Fogs that come on Automatically as they select reverse. If there is nobody there they could just put full beam on, or manually put the front fogs on to reverse
  31. Thanks for the advice as to when to use full and dipped beam, however having been driving for 40+ years, and being a class 1 advanced driver I was aware of it ;-). And no, I haven't driven since the bulbs were fitted, but I will bear in mind your comments re the alignment.
  32. Just talking to a colleague who I work with at Heathrow and he could not find fuel for a 10 mile radius around the Chelsea training ground then phoned and found some 15 miles away but they only let him have £20 worth. He drives a Land Rover Discovery so I dread to think how much that moved the dial.
  33. That's a stroke of luck since it's a guaranteed repair and won't cost you a penny.
  34. Got a mate who has an Audi to have a go and he found something regarding oil temperature activated that shouldn't have been. Deactivated it and so far 🤞 everything has been quiet since. Even had a good long run to Warwickshire and its environs at the temperature range where it normally triggers and nothing happened. 🙂🤫
  35. I suspect that the recent addition of those disclaimers indicates that more people have signed up to providers claiming to use exclusively renewable sources than those sources can possibly provide, on average. It's clearly nonsense to imagine that if everyone just signed up to one of these 'green' suppliers, then all of the UK's leccy will suddenly become renewable. Yet hard to imagine any of them turning down new customers on the basis "we just don't have enough renewable power to accept you"...
  36. I think this is correct yes, in that a physically shorter stroke will result in a constraint of the length of the droop travel from the rest position.
  37. Slight update for others searching in future.... I've just recieved an email with a special offer to renew Warranty valid for a short time so thats why the price was the same as last years 🙂
  38. I hope I haven't misunderstood . Whoever think they arestake charging their car, heating or lighting their homes because the get their electricity from a green provider is mistaken. The green energy company may purchase their energy from a third pary who uses solar/wind power but once it is put into the grid with all of the other sources, what comes out at the user end is just electricity. We are all just as green as everyone else. If you look at some of the power ads on TV you woill see that they will frequently have disclaimers stating that the power comes from the grid, probably because their earlier adverts were misleading consumers thinking that they were claiming something that was patently impossible.
  39. Well I am with Octopus Energy which is supposed to be drawn from 100% renewable. As to carbon molecules coming from brakes, tyres and even the carbon brushes on the electric motor, yes there could be a few. I hard use brakes any more as I you regenerative "B" mode braking and am more concerned about the D head in the ICE behind me getting too close as he accelerates and then destroys all hist kenetic energy in his brake discs heating up as lost thermal energy. Hopefully Renault, and the other EV manufacturers have got it right and our EV brake lights are coming on or even flashing as we harvest kinetic energy and put it back in the battery pack as does an F1 car. I have seen the little Zoe putting up to 30 kW back in to battery on some occasions. Still need my diesel and petrol cars and motorbike as back up, only charging the Zoe at 2 kWs until Friday when I get my wall charger. Thanks to the Con government for the £350 bung as part of the OLEC grant for the wall charger making a total of £2,850 for them to change to electricity, wish I had done it in spring rather than autumn. Nice to use the smart phone occasionally to check its charge status so I can holt the charging so I can cut it off to get the 4.5 hours of nearly free electricity on the night rate. I hear crude has gone up 20% in the last 5 weeks so we should expect both more expensive fuel as well as shortages. Government has the ability to tweak the excise duty to level up the level of tax as their is VAT on the cost of the oil and on the excise duty so they have the power to stop it going to over £1.40/£1.50 a litre.
  40. Hi Jay and welcome to a very friendly informative site. Don't you just love these Octavia VRS motors. I am on my second one.
  41. Hello Jay, welcome aboard Gaz
  42. I had to try several stations on Friday night to get diesel, most still had petrol available. The bloke in front of me managed to squeeze a whole £13 in his tank one click a time, then popped another 20L in a fuel can..... the guy works in the local Halfords and lives about 4 miles away.. so I guess he did a big ass journey Sunday!
  43. Last week of September, absolutely crazy eh.. Anyway so despite the busy weekend i managed to get something done at least, i.e clean out the throttle body, turns out it really is a sub 30 min job. Nice and easy, undo jubo clip holding the hose onto the TB, think it was like an 8mm socket iirc and boom you've got one side of it.. Looking at it from this side i really didn't think it was too bad, cleaned it up using a cloth, some ear buds and a spray bottle of carb cleaner but apart from the coked up area around the actual throttle plate i thought it was surprisingly clean. Moved on to taking out the allen bolts, think they were 5mm, to reveal the other side and mother of god it was awful Look at the state of that, safe to say i figured this was part of if not all the reason to the jerky throttle response and hesitation. i did make sure not to unplug it as i don't have easy access to VCDS to re-calibrate it.. i know people say that just leave the key in position 1 or something to reset it but id rather not take the risk seeing as this cars my daily. Cleaned it all up, above is before, below is after Did it the best i could and i think i did a pretty good job considering the state of it before hand. Cleaned up both of the mating faces on the TB and Intake mani and sandwiched a fresh gasket between them to call it a job done All in all, easy job to do and just as abit of maintenance i'd highly advise doing it. The result? The car really does feel like it picks up better and generally just feels more alive, especially in the lower rev range the pick up seems stronger and when motoring around in low revs theres no judder, no hesitation and the overall driving experience is much much smoother. A must do job for anyone who hasn't done it, i did think it was a placebo effect and that it would wear off at the start but its been 2/3 days now and i'm still amazed at the result you can get for the sake of £10.00 (Carb cleaner from halfords and a gasket) Gasket i got was a Febi - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174087885784 Cleaner i got was - https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-and-fluids/fuel-and-oil-additives/carlube-carb-and-air-intake-cleaner-247638.html Cheers!
  44. This happened to me every single morning. The repair shop replaced the MIB unit (hardware defect) under warranty and I've never seen that screen again.
  45. Lando robbed by the weather but a great drive. Max gained big though, from being trapped around 7th place before the rain he did really well.
  46. As I read on the German forum, latest version 1803 is the only version without any issues. Unfortunately, 1803 will not be part of the OTA update, it is only installed by the dealer if you have "know issues" that are solved with this version.
  47. How stupid do you think the engineers at the tyre manufacturers are? They obviously extensively test this stuff in extreme climates.
