  1. After 10 years of Skoda ownership, covering a Fabia vRS, Octavia vRS and finally the Superb Sportline Plus, it's time to say farewell. Whilst not a prolific poster here on the forums, I've really enjoyed reading about people's experiences, ownership journeys, and advice. The Superb replacement is very different - a Jaguar F-Type R coupe. It certainly doesn't have the space of the Superb 🤣 Thank you everyone for making this a fun place to be an owner and hope everyone continues to enjoy these great cars.
  2. The Moon has just appeared over the horizon and is a stunning deep orange..........
  3. Here’s my Elegance. I paid £250 for it nearly three years ago. It’s been ideal for the job I’ve been doing in some dodgy locations where I feel confident it will still be there when I get back!! It’s kept me reasonably busy with jobs, especially at the beginning but never let me down yet.

I've finally had an update! Octavia VRS hybrid ordered through leasing company in UK Sept 21. Got an email last in January I had an unconfirmed build date for August 23. I just received an email from leasing company to advise my car has a confirmed build date W/C 24th April and should be with with me start of June. I'm reluctant to be excited as don't want further disappointment. I won't believe it until its in my drive way! I've finally had an update! To add to the list of drivers that put the gearbox into Neutral at longer stops - I'm also doing that, but on the manual gearbox. And if there's a slight slope I'm usually using the handbrake, not only to relax the leg, but also because I hate bothering those behind me with the brake lights (especially in rainy weather). On the other hand, I keep the DSG in D/S at red-light and most of the time I'm using the Auto-hold while driving through urban traffic. (I know the brake lights will bother some of the rear drivers - I apologize, it's the system's fault, not mine). I also had a dual-clutch without Auto-hold (the Megane 4 GT EDC) and for longer stops I used to push the gear-lever to N and apply (electric) hand-brake when the road configuration required it.

I find this thread very interesting as a first time owner of a new car with dsg - sure don’t want to mess up things as I tend to use it for several years, so thanks to all who participate in the debate 👍 It also made me try and use the Start/stop which I have been strictly switching off. It does turn the engine off quite fast, sometimes even before coming to a complete stop, but it starts when the car in front of me moves - didn’t expect that, new to Start/Stop as well 😊 But that’s already offtopic so let’s end it here. Will keep following this thread.
  8. Did you mean "are NOT"?
  9. Colourful sunset (out near Carburton) earlier. Full Moon tonight, which was very yellow when it first came up, but disappeared behind a cloud before I could get a photo 😕
  10. All the best in Jaguar land. When you realise the error of your ways we will still be here 😜
  11. The prices people are having to pay with Clutch Pack replacement, or that and a MCU or refurbished MCU, or just selector forks is well documented in the Fabia Mk2 section with DQ200's fitted in Mk2 Fabia vRS. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/420740-mk2-fabia-vrs-aka-green-monster/page/3 Bottom of the page. Repair kits and upgraded Actuators have changed / reduced just how much some are paying now for repairs that were being done but may not have been required. My mate less than 1 mile away is a top Automatic Gearbox Specialist and has done plenty DQ200's and a few members here repairs. There is no point me giving any idea how much he charges as lots of his jobs are for dealerships that do not do the work themselves. Or he does the repair required after ridiculous diagnosis and quotes to do the job from the Main Dealers 15 miles or 30 miles away. Doing the flywheel is not that common though. As to a DQ200 DSG is a 2019 car that really needs an explanation to why needed, other than things are broken. Sometimes dealerships employees seem to turn a crisis into a drama. This Service campaign does not apply after 2015. There are TPI's though and Clutch Slip Issues as covered in the Fabia Mk3 Famous DSG Clutch Slip thread. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/463733-14-tsi-auto-flywheel http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/465622-dq200-flywheel-replacement
  12. MandT are a decent bunch... They are only about 10 minutes walk from me and I've used them quite a lot over the last 10 years or so for tyre changes, MOTs and servicing. They may not look like much from the outside but know their stuff and charge reasonable prices.
  13. No defo not a taxi had Passat before that was an ex taxi got none of them signs plus a remapped vrs unlikely taxi in wolves. Il have a better look under in the car tomorrow work out were its coming from
  14. Just came across this video, where the upper plastic shroud just unclips so my feeling that it would help to allow a better angle for leverage on the clips seems correct! I'll give it another go over Easter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ypKigPtcP4

  17. DSL and irfant Bought original Apple cable and see what happens
  18. The reason the seals have failed is because the bushes are worn, so unless you're planning on a complete rebuild and rebalance then you'll be better off buying a new CHRA assembly which will already be balanced correctly.
  19. Washed it for the first time since last year - I do few miles so it doesn't get that dirty. Please ignore the paint swirl marks, the whiteworm on the alloys and the bent chrome strip on the rear door. It is 7 years old after all 🙂 Of course I polished up the exhaust tips.
  20. Thank you guys sorted coded
  21. Modern VAG temperature gauges display rubbish, they are programmed to read 90 at 77 and still read 90 at 117, it was to stop people obsessing over the minutiae of the readings so if it is erratic, probably the sensor. I was working on a 2017 S3 yesterday which came in for DSG issues (OTT remap killing the box) and noticed the fan would not shut up, I looked at the gauge and was surprised to see it didn’t have one (never noticed that before) so I looked on VCDS and it was running at 109 constantly at idle, failed thermostat but no indication… daft!
  22. I wouldn’t be happy with Bosch plugs over NGK/denso in a twincharger just asking for trouble

Hello, please see attached file of what my system information says.
  24. Hi Bearing in mind mine is a different engine to yours, you should be able to get to it from the wheel arch, you may have to remove a splash panel to get to the pully, and the wheel, that's what I did.
  25. Had one of these in the aux socket on my RNS315 for many years, a bargain at the price.
  26. Your signature suggests that you have, or have access to VCDS, so a full autoscan seems like the natural course of action to discover what the engine ECU thinks the trouble is.
  27. Thanks @Breezy_Pete Typical me - ask the questions before knowing if I can do it myself - anyway it's the EPC warning light I am talking about.
  28. Reported for mod attention. As a note to any reader, you can do this to your own posts to request attention. Pick 'report' from the dropdowns when you click the three dots on right of post. Much more effective as mods simply can't read every post. Actually being a Freedom member you could edit it yourself @YMe. Go into the edit function of the first post and you get to edit the title or any other part of it. 🙂
  29. Enjoy the F Type. Double the output should be interesting!
  30. 2023 cars are mk4, not mk3,
  31. Do you have a centre armrest with an AUX socket in it? If you do then this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133829334896? Works well for streaming audio, it can also connect the phone for calls.
  32. Am going back to 2015 when I got mine fitted was around £560 if I can remember right it’s a good job, you wouldn’t know car had a tow bar fitted when it’s removed, socket folds up out of the way. All wired correctly and coded or what ever they do. When you put it in reverse, picture of a trailer comes on screen to remind you that the caravans on 🙄 not sure how you’d forget though 😆
  33. Funny you tag me in this! im just pricing a clutch replacement up for my partners polo which is a DQ200. it’s not a straight forward job like a manual, you need special tools and the clutch needs shimming correctly to prevent early failure. I would say you are looking around £1000 in a garage for a clutch replacement + the cost of the flywheel A genuine clutch can be had for around £500 at trade. Most places charge £600 for a clutch replacement with the box already out (including parts) so you just have to add the cost of removing the box itself.
  34. The clutch went again just after I had bought a new hood and booked in with an upholster to fit it (not cheap), I had just serviced it and had the next year's engine oil too, I had also booked a rolling road session as I had decided to run it on E5 or E0 higher octane petrol and was preparing to keep the car for at least another couple of years and drive it more - such is life. I expect you have seen the video my neighbour done of the Midget for his YT channel. I spent several small fortunes on "classic" and newer and new British (English) cars and sportscars and contributed a load to tax and the economies of this country and bits around the world, I could have run a small fleet of old MX-5s on what I spent on the Midget alone, I think I had done more than my bit. The Midgets were not even particularly good cars when new but it is the way they feel so tiny and light compared to later cars and the overweight monsters of today and you could have fun driving below the legal speed limits whereas today most cars are very boring below legal speed limits. At least I had the opportunity of having such cars. You could also vacuum the air out of the bags and seal them if you want. - https://www.continental-tyres.co.uk/b2c/tyre-knowledge/storing-tyres.html

Recently purchased this blue beauty, its a 1.5tsi dsg, four years old, so I'm trying to steer clear of the cambelt thread 😁
  36. I bought the APS 265lph from jjc race and rally on ebay. I paid £63.14 at the time which is a bargain, the price has gone up to £88.15 now. Demon Tweeks sell it for £84.50, for some reason the website say its not compactible with my car though, there are 2 versions one for 2wd and 4wd cars. My car is standard apart from a cat back exhaust so it was only ever going to make around 210bhp, he told me a front mount intercooler, sports cat and some bigger injectors (injector duty cycle was getting pretty high) should get me to around 240bhp. I've been looking at the airtec front mount designed to fit the mk4 golf, I wonder if anyone has one fitted to an octavia https://www.airtecmotorsport.com/product/airtec-front-mount-intercooler-for-vw-golf-1-8t/
  37. The mk2 Superb doesn't have a silica bag in the coolant. That came on the newer models, from I think the mk3 Octavia.
  38. These engines are designed to run on the oils as laid out in the instruction manuals for your region, with the car as flat and level as possible check the oil level, cold as per the manual. The really clever folk can now diagnose knowing the basics are satisfied. Good Luck.

Me too. But that is what Auto Hold is for: when approaching a red light, you press the brake - and lift you foot. The car is at standstill. When light turns green, you press the throttle, and on you go. No need to touch the gear selector - and even less the handbrake. But I agree: to each his own 🙂
  40. 1 point
You have 'Autohold' if left enabled. you come to a stop and push the brake pedal, the actuators have the brakes applied, front and rear and if the cars moves a bit the brakes are applied a bit more. Not like the parking brake just the rear brakes. No foot on brake, you can have stop start off if you want and it sits there until to move off, press the accelerator. '
  41. Hello all, So after ordering my new VRS and waiting 14 months for it. My 4x4 Diesel Octavia VRS has arrived and I absolutely love it. I have spec'd it up and to be fair I'm glad I did. The 1 thing I did forget to spec up which my previous Octavia had was the raised floor and adding the HUD although wasn't fussed about it when I did my test drive, until I realised I didn't order it. The black one is my previous car, Thankfully due to covid I bought the ex demo that couldn't be test driven, which I believe has quite a few options that are extra if you by one new, This one only has a 9170 since I bought it in 2020. I couldn't get over the fact the 2 car's drive so differently even though they're likely to have the same engine. Anyway one happy customer right here. No complaints so far! Just have to work out how I'm going to feed the nextbase rear camera wire through the roof lining. Cheers all.
  42. Lol had that for the last 3 yrs with my last car so nothing knew there 😂

Just thinking out loud. If you need to switch the gear leaver on an automatic transmission every time you come to a stop, it becomes kinda semi automatic. And it takes away all the pluses which auto transmission actually gives. I also doubt that new gear leaver was designed to be moved all the time because of it's small design (at least in the VAG group). I would put it in N every time when car is stationary for more than few minutes. But not in the traffic. I really can't imagine putting it in N every time I stop in a crawling traffic. or from traffic light to traffic light. Please don't eat me alive. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong. I'm just thinking out loud and how I imagine (or I would like) an automatic transmission should be used. 😇 Now I'm waiting another "drama" themed post from @toot 😅
  44. I'm on 1898 - SYNC does not stay on, after stopping the engine. I'm putting a list with issues together for my local dealer to review and this is one of them, lol

Update is 8755, and cures the crackling noises. Do you want this file?
  47. It has been a while since my last update, I've done a few jobs since. The front anti roll bar bushes had gone bad again so I've changed them for powerflex ones I did a pretty big job a couple of weeks ago, I noticed one of the injector seal or its cup was leaking and also found a split in one of the breather hoses so Ive replaced them all with new gaskets for the inlet manifold and throttle body. I've simplified the hoses a bit and got rid of the sai because it stopped working a while back. I also replaced the fuel hoses as they had some cracks all over them. I've left the n249 valve on for now. I didn't take many photos whilst doing it mainly because I forgot and got carried away with working it all out. The best thing I've had done is new tyres and wheel refurb. Like an idiot I forgot the before photos and the new centre caps haven't arrived yet but you get the idea. I went for 225/45/17 Goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 6, got them from Halfords as they where the cheapest at £72 each. I had the wheels power coated the standard colour. I'll get some better pictures for the next time to, they aren't even clean in this picture but never mind they still look a lot better than when they had curb rash on every wheel. I'm still chasing a problem which I'm hoping a new front lambda sensor will sort out because I've had this fault code a couple of times recently, with the car hesitating and bucking at low speed.
  48. Dear all Happy to assist if you have problems updating your maps. In Summary, most MK3's onwards who have a Columbus or Amunsden (with Navigation) system - will have free map updates available to them. 1) Go to https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ 2) Type in your VIN number - you can find that number either on a servicing invoice or more easily on the bottom left hand side of your windscreen. 3) Most folk (unless they have an early MIB1 - 2013->2015) - will have an 16G card - that currently should be enough to store the whole of Europe maps on them. 4) The maps you are looking for are the ECE A1 maps - for those with the smaller capacity SD Card [8GB], you may need the A5 or A7 maps (which is a smaller subset maps) - chose your map areas appropriately. 5) You will need 7z decoder. These are free to download. 6) Put your SD Card into your PC. If you have a Mac; there are cavaats on decompressing files. See the updateportal for details. 7) Delete the files on the SD. You don't need to format it. 8) Take the contents of the folder [if you click into the file, you will find a folder marked MAPS - it is this folder you need to copy to your SD Card]. 9) Wait until competely downloaded. Could take 30-40 mins to complete. 10) Unmount/Eject the SD Card and plug it back into SD Card Slot 1. 11) Boot up MIB system, go to Maps and make sure you can read the maps. Going into Settings [in Nav] and then Version Information - shows you have the latest map info

To get full access you need to remove the D pillar trim (just pulls off? Remove the hooks on the boot sides, remove the rear seat cables from the handles, remove the screws from behind the D pillar and load cover, remove the tie down points and boot light, remove the load lip trim by unscrewing the Torx fixings below floor level then pull it off, remove the side carpet or at least pull it out of the way and then fold the seat down and pull the side trim away but tbh if you can get your hands around it without removing that it’ll be easier.
  50. Yes. I have a MY19 Sportline hatch with the original 19" vega alloys and 235/40R19 tyres. I found a same sized Skoda alloy rim (not a vega) and tyre from a wrecker which I bought for A$150 to replace the space saver. I had this balanced and it fits tightly in the wheel well although it sat about 25mm higher, I used a long blade to trim the bottom and sides of the polystyrene jack/tool holder to fit within the rim and got some 10mm carpet underlay offcuts free from a local carpet shop. Trimmed and fitted 3 layers of the underlay to level up the boot floor and I'm happy with it. You could trim the plastic lip to ease the fitting but I didn't and It doesn't bother me that the spare looks different to the vega, I hope not to use it often.
