What I find particularly concerning is that it must be absolutely clear to the VW group that TMC is no longer being broadcast by their provider (Trafficmaster)to their SatNavs. They appear to have chosen not to confirm this and are attempting to waste the time of their customers (and also dealerships) by directing this to dealerships when it is clear that there is nothing they can do. Customer Services have chosen not to reply to my last 2 emails requesting further clarification on the situation. It appears that Skoda/VW group are being deliberately evasive resulting in many members of this forum (and no doubt many others) spending significant time trying to get to the crux of the problem. This is unsatisfactory customer relations and I find this stance surprising given the diesel emissions issue. I will contact my local dealership to see if they have an update - no doubt unlikely - as they are already aware of my problem, with the likelihood beyond that of having to escalate this to senior management at Skoda

Spotted at Rufford this evening - never seen so many goslings in one family !! We watched them swim all the way across the lake in a perfect straight line, with one parent at the front and the other at the back. They've done incredibly well to hatch that many!

So my chuckle of the day is while charging the Corsa I get a phone call from Arnold Clark. To book the car in for a MOT. So July 1 month before the hand back. First thing 8 pm. Simple. Health check. Complimentary. Well yes Motability own it. Any mot work would be free under warranty. Well yes and I just got it back. So they have a Special Offer for £19, a fuel treatment. So I asked do you think it is worth having? It is recommended he says. Well I think that Arnold Clark and their Electric is the way forward needs to train you people I said, read my Trust Pilot review. So he phoned back a few minutes later. He noticed there is a Recall on my car. I told him I know, it was showing while they just had my car for 3 weeks with it not looked at for 2 1/2. So what is the Recall? 'BEV Cross Carline AC Compressor'. Well I will be blown. Mickey Muppet roadshow.

I fitted a set of "Goodride" tyres once to my old Black vRS, and they howled like a pig on the motorway. Sounded like all the wheel bearings had failed at the same time. Used them up over the course of 20k and replaced them with Michelin, noise gone.

A different MOT tester might not even mention them... Unnecessary "upselling" of replacement discs and/or pads has been commonplace for many years.

I refer you to the main topic of this thread 😅 In all seriousness, of course the hardware may be available to receive this traffic information over the newer standard, but the fact is that right now it is receiving the square root of **** all. This is a failure of the manufacturer to adequately prepare for the cessation of the TMC broadcasts from Trafficmaster.

Lets be honest here - that chances are this is simply the fan resistor pack that has burnt out - first speed 1 goes, then 2, then 3 leaving you with just 4. It's a common, known, failure point. I'm pretty mechanically minded so I'd fit one myself on a 10 year old car (in fact I did on our Fabia Mk 1) and see if that fixed it - or if I wasn't I'd be asking a small local garage, or a mate who is, to fit one for me for a few quid.

For local use, as long as you have driveway space to charge it every night, EV's are more convenient and cheaper to run. Very easy to integrate into daily life. I don't think you'll will need to hire a car to try it out. That's because until you get home charge point installed, you may find it more hassle due to having to run a cable out of the window. The truth is, with home charge point, it's a matter of plugging it in when getting home and wake up with your expected range every morning. Don't need to think about range and don't need to think about charging.

Yes I did. As well as working for A/C manufacturers, distributors & an AC Consultancy firm working with Tesco amongst others. Regular visits to Europe & USA as part of my work. They were good times through the ups & downs of the economy but more relaxed these days. My only contact with the industry these days is from afar & going to old colleague retirement do's (one this Friday) & funerals. Makes you think a bit about life & what's more important.

Oh dear. Painful. Shouldn't this form part of the insurance claim? Or is there no claim made so far for recovery or damage? With the car deadlocked by key, in normal manner (one press of fob) the handle will be deadlocked and central locking button will not work. Unless the thiefs happened to press the fob twice on locking and deactivate deadlocking, in which case the handles (from inside) and probably the button will work.

I fitted a £30 Ebay condensor and a similar priced crashbar, both imported pattern parts, my vehicle had had a minor front end shunt. The crashbar was missing the hole for the temperature sensor, no biggy, the condensor worked fine, I vacuumed down & repressurised the system myself (had invested in the kit and R134a cylinder) 3 years and 45k miles later its still working fine.

You did have a different selection of fault codes, but it's a very easy thing to check, and fuelling could easily be imagined to be relevant here.

It must be detachable from the cylinder as the parts catalogue shows it as a separate part. So if the cylinder is working hydraulic-wise I'd hope you wouldn't have to remove/replace that part? Any chance you just forgot to plug the connector back onto it?

Another vote for the box over the pouches. I purchased 3 pouches for my keys when I got the car and for quite a while I carried one with my keys and just moved the key fob from the shielded pouch to unshielded when driving. Soon discovered that even in the shielded position unless I held the pouch shut around the Velcro there’s enough leakage to unlock the car and drive it to work…. got one of the boxes instead and that works properly, no chance of opening or starting it when in the box. also means my key pocket has less clutter in it, downside being if I’m out and about then technically someone could scan from me but it’s a case of how paranoid do I want to be? for my main objective of being protected at home the box is perfect.

A little update on this saga. Tyre with the puncture replaced without hassle. Unfortunately, Cazoo would only permit a budget which I kind of expected and I dropped a bit of a clanger not paying the extra to fit something decent. It was always my plan to run with whatever tyres were on the car for 12 months or so then fit 4 PS4’s anyway so we’re ok there. Other tyre with the cut turned out to be absolutely fine. Not really a cut at all and certainly not a problem. Car now fully serviced. Oil, Oil filter, Plugs, Air & Pollen Filters, Diff oil and brake fluid all done with the cost covered by Cazoo as well as a £100 goodwill gesture from them on top. I also replaced the electric windows switch with an £18 unit from Amazon. The plastic frame of the original had broke meaning the switch wouldn’t press properly. In fairness to Cazoo and particularly Kate who I have been dealing with, in the last week or so they have been great. Helpful and responsive which is all I could ask for really. Just a shame there were such issues in the first place. Time to enjoy the car now and to be fair, it’s a cracking car. Drove from the North West to Wembley for the National League playoff final on Saturday and it didn’t miss a beat at all during the 9 hours of driving I did. Very comfortable and capable on a long trip like that. 450 miles out of a tank as well! Spare wheel arrived today. Happy days.

Got it. Thanks, I was too lazy to look over the menus :)) - shame on me. Strangely, from Saturday evening it has not restarted anymore. We'll see if this resolves the issue. I am not a fan of logos, so I can live without them.

I have a great time with these wonderful databases. My car is a late 2006 build, but comes back as a 2007 on a lot of systems - due to it being an MY07 Mk1, but most systems interpret this as a Mk2.

Had mine for two years, same model, and the sound levels are average. I had a1.6 TDI before this one and both cars were fairly quiet. Definitely no throaty sound.

Indeed - but it's a high probability... and given the low cost of a new fan resistor is, in my opinion, potentially the cheapest option and worth a shot before doing anything else. As I said - my opinion and high probability... but it's the OP's choice.

What is a £30 code reader going to do in this situation to help? Its not going to throw up fault B0111 - change the heater blow resistor or B0112 - there is a burnt out wire on the heater fan connector. A code reader is only as good as the person using it and a lot of systems and faults aren’t able to self diagnose let alone tell you what to replace. the most you might get out of this is a short to positive blower motor code. Which doesn’t help with a huge amount without further diagnosis still. the difference is you have a £30 code reader to recoup the cost on, they have £100,000s worth of tools, building, staff and training to recoup the cost on

And now silky smooth and all sorted. Quick easy job and done the same morning. Dropped car off at 8.15 am and collected it at after 1.30pm as I was in meetings. Simple job, done effectively and for a much more reasonable rate than what the other garage quoted.

This looks like Trafficmaster making a business decision to not renew their licence to broadcast their traffic data anymore. How much notice they gave their customers (i.e. vehicle manufacturers), who knows? But now that the decision has been made it's up to the vehicle manufacturers to decide how to respond. I am concerned that Skoda will hide behind the caveat in the user manual, shown in my screenshot, and just say they won't be doing anything.

Do you know which way the bleed nipples should face? Mine are on the bottom side.

Because a £30 code reader will only give you generic OBDII codes relating to emissions or safety related items, ABS, Airbags etc, it will not be able to interrogate the HVAC controller and in any case the volt drops across the individual resistors in the array are not monitored so there would be no fault code to find even if it could access the controller.

Or you could do what I would do. Use the fan on settings 2 and 3 and forget about 1. Total cost, zilch.

I have now received catagorical independent confirmation from a third party (Gov UK/Broadcast Licensing/Ofcom). It confirms all that we have manged to ascertain : 1. Trafficmaster (Teletrac Navman) have ceased RDS TMC Live Traffic broadcast in the UK on Heart/Capital/Smooth as of 31/03/2023. 2. INRIX are continuing to provide their service via Classic FM. I would imagine that hundreds of thousands of UK cars are affected by the removal of the Trafficmaster service. I have emailed Trafficmaster for further information. For info, this is the email I received from Broadcast Licensing........ .

Not very likely a 1.5 TDI DSG's in the UK so it would have to be a double bubble typo if a 1.6 TDI DSG. So money is on it being the 1.5TSI ACT DSG.

It's easy if a little hidden away. Did on mine friday, touch wood, no restarts since. My Skoda app now not telling me if the car is locked or not though, completely unrelated I hope. Will check later if you are struggling on where on the menus it was, but it's in either general settings or radio settings, and it's a menu called station logos or something

Well they are some interesting theories! 1. Water pump doesn’t need doing as it’s on the opposite side of the engine 2. Spot on 3. Steer well clear - what cowboys recommend not replacing the tensioner! also as it’s a 1.5tsi they need a very specialised bit of kit to do the timing alignment which isn’t too cheap - I would be confirming the garage has access to this kit before they get started you will need to replace the belt; tensioner, idler and associated stretch bolts and the seals on both ends of the camshaft caps.

It is for exactly the reasons you describe that we will only be using the EV for local trips, by my wife mainly, & it will be charged from home from the grid or solar when available. I'm not comfortable with cost or the availability of public charging so I will be avoiding any of that for as long as possible. For trips any further than 200+ miles we will use whichever of the ICE cars we are left with. TBH both my wife & I only do around 5k miles or less a year each these days (both retired) so there's an argument that says says we should be able to make do with a single car now. However, I'm not ready to do that if it means only an EV so for now we will have to run two cars until we can't afford to do it anymore. I am considering hiring an EV to give it a longer tryout but I think a used Kona is the right size / price of car for us as a 2nd car so to speak. Not the greatest looking thing but it covers all the bases & in Ultimate trim it gives her most if not more of all the bells & whistles she's used to on the Karoq. Just still quite get my head around the fact that I may be selling my Superb to part fund the new car 😒

Thanks for the info. After looking at & sitting in the E-2008 the wife didn't like it. Apparently the bonnet is too big so she can't see the road ahead😕 Not sure how that works because she's currently driving our Karoq which has a similar bonnet. Ah well. So we are now looking for a Kona. Test drove one the other day & it was pretty good & has buttons for most functions which is a plus in my book. I think we will wait until the new Kona comes out in a few months which should reduce the prices & increase the availability of the current facelift models. I now need to decide whether we lose the Superb 280 Estate or the Karoq 1.5 Edition to make way for the Kona? I really don't want to part with my Superb but it is the older car so it's time with us may be up. I would take over the Karoq & the wife would have the the Kona which we would both share for local trips. I got a valuation from AutoTrader on the Superb of £19,200 but I think I'll be after £20k minimum. When the time comes I will post it on the cars for sale section of the forum & probably on AT.

But you won’t be able to activate / deactivate door locks with just voltage as the bellows wiring will go to the door controller, then to the door lock isn’t it? The controller will be sending out voltages to the door lock after receiving instructions. You’d need to intersect the door lock wiring after the controller but that is behind door card? Unless I’m not following, which is always possible…

Definitely wouldn't associate copper grease with a decent mechanic for modern cars - No manufacturer of parts or vehicles has recommended copper grease in the last 20 years so it has absolutely no place in a modern workshop in my opinion, not only invalidating any parts warranties but also just makes an absolute mess! (I hate the stuff if you hadnt guessed )
