  1. On then19th October, my 2016 OEM MOLL EFB battery was replaced with an RAC branded Varta Silver Dynamic AGM 570 901 076.
  2. The Bosch S5 A08 is an AGM battery the Varta N70 is not the same The 096 AGM Varta battery is E39 or newly labelled A7 They have not supplied an "equivalent" battery to the one ordered
  3. I think all political parties are quite content to "kick that can down the road" because of concerns about upsetting voters until it becomes an economic necessity.
  4. New Barrel in, and it works a treat. Was testing the chinese one on the bench and sure enough it doesn't re-engage the lock when you remove the key. Something in the mechanism is sticky, you have to give it a bit of a wack before it clicks off. The proper VAG ignition barrel is a much higher quality part, it's night and day. Moral of the story here is that cheaping on some parts often doesn't pay off.
  5. Hi Moribund, I can't really remember exactly how did I do it, but it was straight forward...it took only 2 minutes to replace it. I didn't had to take any trim out. I guess I used flat head screw driver to pry open the switch from the side and unplugged and replaced it with the new one. I must have watched video and if i find videos in my watch history I'll let you know.

You're right, need 2 keys so need to wait til No 2 is delivered and configured. On the plus side, I got SOOO close - "press unlock on second key" but while sat in and playing, another OTA came in and did it's stuff, whatever it did. Slow progress but it's progress.

Since the Infotainment software was updated to 1941 and SOS Module firmware was also updated it's all been good (touch wood). Whilst the selling dealer should have updated the software (as per Skoda Approved Car policy) prior to me buying it I count myself fortunate that at long last there is a relatively stable software version available. Reading this forum the whole software debacle dragged on for far to long with no resolution and clueless Skoda UK and their dealer network causing a lot of stress for Octavia MK4 owners. This forum was invaluable as I read multiple postings so when I turned up at the dealer I was fully armed in exactly what I believed they needed to do which was primarily "Don't just update to version 1941, also check the SOS Module firmware"
  8. Hi all, I joined this forum last year when I bought my Skoda Mkii (2015) but forgot to post an introduction - oops Well here it is, This is my first Skoda and I'm very happy with it so far, it's an Octavia Estate 2.0 TDi - Estate required as I am a singer & guitarist in a rock covers band and I have to transport the PA, amps & guitars to gigs - I really should take up harmonica lol. Apart from one niggle which I didn't spot when I first got it - the drivers side heated mirror doesn't work - the Passenger side works so I suspect a fault in either the wiring or the mirror itself (maybe it was replaced with a non-heated version - who knows) but I will check it when the weather warms up a little and hopefully will be working for next winter haha. Well that's all from me - I will try to get back here more regularly in future.
  9. I had a similar leak on my second-hand 2018 vRS 245 which was fixed under warranty. You might want to try taking it to a Skoda garage as there is TPI 2049121/4 related to this. Including changes to how they were fitted: Even if they won't cover the full cost, you might get some good-will if it does match with the TPI
  10. The big increase will come but we don't know yet what form it will take - i.e whatever form of taxation the government chooses to use to replace the lost taxation from fuel duty.
  11. As I understand it, unfortunately with this kind of problem you don't know whether it is the master or slave. Are you losing hydraulic fluid, can you see any leaks around the master? Worst case scenario you replace clutch, flywheel and slave find out that it was a master all along. I would be tempted to replace the master cylinder first which is the cheapest job.
  12. There will be VED to pay. Public charging will, maybe home tariffs will be more expensive. Some will still be able to charge cheaply with Solar or Hydro they control. Plenty EV,s coming matched to ICE vehicles prices, cheaper ones even, and servicing might cost less. Running costs. There will be Low Emission Zones and parking that might be cheaper / free for EV,s. There is Parking & access that might be free now and charging that will no longer be. It always looks like ICE vehicle running costs will become higher and they will do even though the Westminster Parliament and the devolved ones dither about and mess the motoring public and business,s about. ............. A year ago and a car salesperson and how things change, budget to budget or Chancellor to Chancellor. One thing at present is clear, Business users have more financial reasons to run EV,s than the General Public & using Public Charging is not the same hit as with private buyers / leasers of EV,s
  13. @Graham Butcher You can not pick holes because as you keeping saying, you do not know this or that. McMaster is stupid on purpose. He is doing it for affect. He passes obvious charging locations that are good and he does the same trips time after time doing the same crap and repeating it. Like Just get a Tesla. Well just get a brain and just get Tyres because you will need them.
  14. If people are not getting an EV or needing to charge an EV then why get your nickers in a twist over charging? Drive on with your ICE vehicles to 2035 & beyond. As to traffic and weather then @wyx087you maybe need to get out and about where there is actually adverse weather and the need to get to chargers and be aware getting to some might not be possible because of flooding or closures with snow. Barstard MINI has no idea what i am asking from the Sat Nav. My recent destinations on Quick check are all in Germany as it thinks i ask for locations in Germany. (The BMW i have for 3 weeks at a time is very very good Sat Nav wise and understanding what is asked for) The PARTNER Mini charger destinations it shows are just hopeless as it is dealerships the 7 kW chargers and that are maybe open during business time so pretty hopeless. Asking for chargers is a waste of time. I really can not use my left hand on a centre screen to search for anything and i just don't, even stopped it is me that is useless at it so it is WAZE i use on the phone. The i-drive is a saviour and great for making phone calls with the selector easy to just use between the seats and the info showing in front of me on the dash. There is Sat Nav directions there as well if used but in time script. ............ He annoys me more than Taycan man. I watch to see what his next gems are. If you do just get a Tesla please do not abandon them on chargers for hours locked in because you want a full battery and range even if you are not going even half the range the full battery gives. This applies to anyone / car really. Stop the stupidity. Roadworks Dundee -Perth have caused hold up for weeks because of a crane hitting a bridge. (I only ever go that way if going to Dundee.) Dundee got the Kingsway decades ago and then it became slow. There are by-pass plans for Dundee but too late now because of new buildings approved. No idea why he never crosses from Forfar to Perth and the Tesla Supercharger there. 31 miles, takes 45 minutes, sometimes 60.
  15. 54 seconds in described in this video...... Nick is a Renault dealership worker.
  16. The complication of these vehicles is increasing well beyond the competence of the poor mechanics expected to fix them and the cost to the hapless owners of the misaimed parts & labour cannon rises exponentially. I dread to think how much the OP has been taken for so far 😒 Its time that the training and occupation of vehicle mechanic was elevated from the craft intake, technician in a few cases to higher than that of a surgeon or lawyer. The N82 valve sounds probable.
  17. Due to high number of requests let me make some short summary of units that can be installed in Octavia III cars. 18. Today was my first time changing wheels on this March ‘23 car. The winter wheels have been used on 2 previous Bears. I’ve never seen such messy wheel bolts. A mere 7,000 summer miles. A wire brush and some WD40 cleaned things up.
  19. Yes this was all time on BCM. I didnt know without DCC the car oly have 1 Sensor. We read the electric diagram and saw that only one sensor is connected to 4B unit.
  20. At the beginning I thought, they were both AGM. But when I better looked at the one I recieved, I noticed it was not an AGM but an EFB. But it was to late to edit my post. Sorry for the confusion.
  21. I had one that lasted about 11 years then two in quick succession that died after a year. I went back to a standard battery. Probably my fault as they got to a low state of charge that effectively killed them as they then wouldn't hold a charge for more than a few days. No such problems with a standard one at half the price.
  22. Was it just the trunk lights you replaced - or did you also replace the interior, cabin ones ? (map lights, etc.) Can you just pull the fuse for the CarPlay unit?
  23. Same here. That is what I have in my Citigo. Are the headlights adjusted as both my Skoda's and the VW needed adjusting the beam up to make them work well. Thanks. AG Falco
  24. The front and rear springs that come in the E10-81-010-05-22 kit do appear to be correct for the Fabia MK3 1.2TSI. It appears that Eibach has made a mistake by listing the Fabia 5J (MK2), as that car uses different springs to what's in this kit. The Eibach spring catalogue (on ebay.de) shows that the E10-81-010-05-22 kit comprises F11-81-010-05-VA front springs and F11-81-010-04-HA rear springs.
  25. It sounds like a problem I had many years ago with a Citroen CX. The pin that locked the steering jammed in place and wouldn't spring out of engagement when I tried to start the car. I cleared it then by turning the steering wheel first to the left and then to the right, putting the steering under load in each direction. You have to try both directions as it is not obvious which direction will relieve the pressure. Try to start the car in each position to test if the pin has been freed. It worked for me at the time after a cou[le of goes. Failing that you will have to take the load off the front of the car to allow free movement of the steering wheel. Best pf luck.
  26. Huh, this a reason why the main stream media cannot be relied upon for factual information these days, you need to fact-check almost everything they report on. The reporter said Hinckley Point, Bristol when in fact it is actually closer to Bridgewater, 8 miles away as the crow flies compared to 30 miles to Bristol.
  27. Was not aware of that update.
  28. Turning the sound up whilst nav instructions speaking solved the issue. Still not wild about having to use a cable rather than wireless but at least it does what I want. thanks all for your help
  29. You do. Everything on the zipped file is dragged and dropped onto the SD / USB. Attached is the VW pdf guidance. Although the directory is labelled mib1 it takes files from there as well for mib2. Its a question that comes up from time to time. Just the way files are stored but you need the whole lot over. 30. I agree - recently has the 1941 update applied at dealership on my “new” used car as I couldn’t get the OTA on account of not being able to become primary user. Literally come from the most unstable Infotainment system to a stable one so would be very wary of applying a new update in case it all goes South again.
  31. No update available, not here, not at your dealer. This is current.
  32. Thanks. I thought my English was not good enough. But finally someone who understands my point. Indeed, this article let me think AGM is a better solution than EFB for my Mk3 https://batteryworld.varta-automotive.com/en-gb/efb-or-agm-which-battery-do-i-need Note: It’s a Varta to Varta comparison. No Bosch story. @Graham Butcher and @skomaz Have a look to spare parts websites and check how often EFB batteries suiting your Mk3 (based on nameplates) are proposed compared to AGM ones… I´ve looked at almost 8 or 10 french websites. No EFB was proposed for my car. Thus I’m convinced I´ve made the safest choice for me and my Mk3. Feel free to do differently if you think it’s a better option for you.
  33. The tape is directly over the light, behind the plastic screen - no examiner has ever mentioned it!
  34. Thanks 🙏 I no longer have the vRS. It was a bit of a duff experience, and I decided to change. Lots of parts were replaced and it felt very much like the parts and labour cannon to which @J.R. refers, was used. Ironically the actual fault was found, after many replaced items, by good old common sense and hands on mechanic'ing, with the realisation that a hose which should have been hot, was actually stone cold 🙄 As to whether the resulting farce would've happened had the fault been identified correctly in the first place, who knows. Gaz
  35. The Varta N70 does not list as an AGM from what i can find The 096 Varta battery is E39 or newly labelled A7
  36. Without diagnostics, you would just be guessing and throwing parts at the car... I don't know where you're based but plenty of members here have VCDS or OBDeleven and should be able to perform a scan pretty easily: - map: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/224376-vcds-owners-map/ - list: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com-vcp-owners/
  37. ^^^ England. When they say 'This country' they mean England. BBC reporters say 'This Country' when referring to England only projects. A different country from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. England really needs to become more self sufficient for Energy, Gas, Oil, Nuclear, Renewables. Get the Energy Security in place, stop depending on neighbours and not so near neighbours and dipping the hand in the kitty and robing others. Since Rishi visited the north there is plans to shut down parts of the Grangemouth Refinery and make it an Import Hub. Time will tell about the refineries / cracking plants left in England and how long they might stay. Since Rishi issued more Oil & Gas Exploration licences Oil & Gas companies they have announced pulling out of the North Sea. Transitioning. Getting lots of Tax Payers funding to decommission, scrap etc. Mostly scrapping rigs abroad. Maybe since the Green Freeports were announced they might actually get started and Scotland might not leave the UK in another generation.
  38. Very true. Passenger car Fuel Duty & VAT, and light goods vehicles fuel duty and then HGV fuel duty, then ships and planes. (not planes there is not much duty with them.) As it is you pay to take some non compliant emissions vehicles into London. In Glasgow you get fined if you take in non compliant. Other places have other charges. Motoring and driving, transporting in vehicles cost money and just now there are not many ways of getting cheap liquid fuel. There are those running on Veg oil, Used Veg oil, Bio. Fast Food company vehicles etc. The UK Government would rather that Oil was used for Aeroplanes though and will spent millions or billions of tax payers money to see that happen. Or to give a nice standard of living for cronies. Where has Rolls Royce got to with the Small Modular Nuclear? Yesterday i spotted outside Perth Scotland the Green Field site where the Works Access is for where the New Low Carbon Transport Hub with Hydrogen Production & fuelling and services & EV charging will be getting build. No place near the harbour / River Tay or the Railway line.... Obviously as well as this Green Industry the houses are being built to make it financially viable. That is Perth Scotland getting more homes on Green Field land to make the industrial park work, or actually part of the kidology.
  39. 1 point
Seems too obvious but Is that not the killer line? Would regularly putting air in your tyres ever since 2002 not suggest leakage? Forget TPMS, what does the air gauge read each time you put air in the tyres?
  40. The one certainty about electric motoring is that it is going to get a lot more expensive.
  41. There is no need to do anything, the difference is 0.78%. The you go to one of the comparison sites you get the result below:- This is less than the error in your speedo and the variations due to tyre wear.
  42. You do realise Bosch and Varta batteries are the same and made in the same factory don't you?
  43. Looks like Cupra/SEAT owners will be getting version 1969 soon. Something to look forward to in the next 12 months for us.
  44. I'm also encountering resistance from Skoda with my 2016 Citigo despite this rusting being a blatant manufacturing fault. Has anyone considered taking this up with UK's themotorombudsman.org? Or ombudsman.europa.eu... tradingstandards.uk?
  45. It can be done using VCDS, I think there is a setting for Winter Tyres but I'm not sure you can actually select the tyre size, I think perhaps its a warning not to exceed a certain speed, worth a look though.
  46. The bottom half is strengthened by the under tray and the wheel arch liners on the sides. This is the back of the bumper.
  47. So....I didn't go with EBC. At least not entirely. 😁 Instead I have chosen DBA brakes. Front: DBA 4000 series rotors + DBA XP brake pads Rear: DBA 4000 series rotors + EBC yellow stuff pads (DBA doesn't offer yet rear pads) Braided brake lines Motul RBF 600 brake fluid First impression is great. Quiet, good initial bite, good pedal feel.
  48. All the 4s I was slightly annoyed when the fuel consumption had dropped a bit. 44.4mpg would have looked better.
