  1. Awoke to this sky earlier........ Although within half an hour the sky was on fire (I can only imagine the Shepherds are worried!!):

I'm pretty certain there are NO wet belt cam belts in any VW Group passenger vehicle EXCEPT the latest Transporter that I believe has one option that uses a Ford wet belt engine...
  3. **Update** I brought the car to another mechanic on Friday, he disconnected the battery and left for a few minutes. He cleared faults and told me to try that. I have now driven 120 miles over the weekend and alas the light hasn't come back on (well over my 17 miles it usually took) Fingers crossed this it sorted, just thought I'd post here so if anyone else has encountered anything similar it's worth a try.

Bought couple weeks ago. 2021 with 13k on it.
  5. It's a repeat. There's a new Car SOS on More 4 at 9 though

There are different prices 1.4 TSI or 1.4 TSI ACT, 1.5 TSI or 1.5 TSI ACT. There are places that price by the different kits used, pattern or OEM.

You maybe need to speak to one of their technicians who actually does the job and knows the engine- presumably its the service desk that “confirmed” to you it had a wet belt? Maybe they just confirmed what you told them- without knowing ?
  8. The odd thing here is that the cars in Dundee were set on fire, no question about that (apparently, common in Dundee) but that fire was Sept 19th 2024? Crews tackle 'ferocious' car fires on Charleston Drive in Dundee
  9. Given the shrieking over Elon Musk reducing censorship on Twitter/X, and Zuckerberg's recent announcement that he's going to put an end to the crude censorship previously in place on Facebook, I think my statement about suppressing dissent is on solid ground. But you're welcome to disagree.
  10. There is usually just one wire in the whole car that is completely unfused; the one that connects battery positive to the starter motor. A short to chassis/earth on that could be responsible, but obviously the cable run and insulation is designed with this in mind, so that seems rather unlikely to me.
  11. If im honest, I think they are trying to drag it out past the 6 months so I then can't open a complaint with the finance company 😞 Whats strange is they said they carried out a compression test while they had the vehicle for 2 days, but when I asked for the results they just said "its all within tolerances" so im not convinced they actually did anything.
  12. That's an assumption, there are other people who share @EnterName's opinion.
  13. I have left the car into a local independent VAG specialist and they have confirmed the issue is a broken blower motor and have quoted me just over £400 for the replair. The part cost over £200 apparently so I have agreed as I really need to get this fixed. My day for doing a car repair myself will have to wait. Thanks again for all the advice.

As noted above you ned to do some more reseach... the EA211 1.5 TSI does NOT have a wet timing belt. And it also has an extended life design that Skode UK have finally caught up with by removing the 5 yearly replacement schedule - bringing the UK into line with the rest of the world.

  17. Only thing I can find To successfully receive an Over-the-Air (OTA) update for a Škoda vehicle, the following requirements must be met: Online vehicle: The SOS module light in the overhead console must be green, indicating that the vehicle is online and can communicate with Škoda servers Active primary user: A primary user must be assigned to the vehicle Cellular network coverage: The vehicle must have cellular network coverage Battery charged: The battery must be charged to at least 50% Online Mode enabled: Online Mode must be enabled in the privacy settings When an OTA update is available, the vehicle's infotainment screen will notify the user. The installation can be started from the goodbye screen after turning off the vehicle.
  18. I really do feel that the EV cause would be greatly enhanced, if there was less governmental pressure on trying to enforce this change on people and the full pursuit of net-zero instead of going for a reduction in carbon emissions. As @Stonekeeper has already pointed out Thursday at 22:46 In 2023, the United Kingdom became the world’s first major economy to halve its emissions relative to 1990 levels. We are miles ahead of the curve so we could really afford to take our foot off the throttle a bit and wait for the rest of the world to catch up. It is not like the cleaner air of the UK stays in the UK, it gets blown all over the globe, and in the same way, we also heavily polluted air for the rest of the world transported here in the winds, just as we get fine sand particles deposited here from the Sahara and other places. We would be far better served by ensuring that we as a whole country, not just Scotland have energy self-sufficiency so can continue to exploit our natural resources and not cap in hand to other countries to help us out and potentially play ring into the hands of an adversary like say Russia where they could effectively turn off our source of energy and bring us to our knees even without a single shot being fired. They would only need to wait until we have most of the transport being electric and then a dunkelflpute and we would be an easy target. Russia has vast reserves of oil and anybody is of the impression that they would not exploit that for their own evil benefit, needs to wake up and wise up, in my view. I still say the electrification does indeed have a place in the modern era but that place where it is the dominant means of transportation needs to come along when all pitfalls of the batteries and our grid fragility and energy capacity needs to grow rapidly to cope with the demand and the issues with people not having off-road charging capability, resolved to ensure that the country can still continue to function normally under the harshest conditions imaginable. That to my mind of paramount importance and needs to come way ahead of virtue signalling any green credentials.
  19. Yes, the black/violet wire to the rear wiper is ignition switched 12V, from fuse 47.
  20. Yes price from 60 upto 200 valeo part. Easy to do via YouTube saved a fortune over the years on octavia.....
  21. If it hasnt been done for at least two years it may be the problem. Enough fuel getting through for idle and low revs but not enough when you put the foot down. My old local garage when servicing changed all filters annually and not by mileage. It only takes a fill up or two of dirty/contaminated fuel. I recently did my 08 1.9tdi and the fuel filter was almost blocked. It had a weird jelly like substance in it which I eventually found out is a weird bacteria/algae diesel bug that can grow in diesel. Normally found in marine diesels. I also had in my old tractor. No idea where it came from although I normally get diesel for boith at our local garage who have recently had their tanks replaced???? Treated the system with a marine diesel additive and so far so good Hope its as simple as a new filter Alasdair
  22. SPOILER ALERT> . Has not happened, nobody banned him from a ferry, but if he phones up his insurance maybe they will. Not safe to be out in the community on his own. 60,000 miles and a 100 kWh charge taking 2 hours max (if he stayed off 50 kW chargers and getting 200 miles per charge would or could be 300 hours of charging. (The car should be getting 250 miles from a Full Charge.) That could be a lot less if the Ultra Rapid chargers he could use were used. But he is working at lots of these charges as a Youtuber. Semi retired, might as well catch up on his Social Media commitments.
  23. No prizes for guessing who. 😁
  24. Hi Pete. Yes, there're two O2 sensors. Marked is 2nd, analysing.
  25. vw 502 00 so 5w 40 FS is perfectly correct for a TSI is getting Fixed Oil and filter changes. But they are the ones doing a Oil Consumption test so if they use Long Life oil that is fine, but not Long Life is not wrong. (it is with a TDI.) These Pillocks accused the cars owner of spoiling test by topping up oil. That was quite a common thing with Main Dealers and Twincharger Oil Consumption tests. 0.3 litres used in 1,000 km was not within tolerances.
  26. Found it. Snugly back in place. How important is the aluminium gasket between the engine and the gearbox? I forgot to put it back in place before putting the new flywheel on. The old one got a bit bent out of shape anyway, so I got it back on by snipping one of the thin bits. If it's very important to be intact I'm gonna have to order a new one, and more flywheel bolts so I can re-do the flywheel with it in place.
  27. Based on personal experience, and 61k miles across two Gen 3's, I beg to differ 🙄 Gaz

Fairly certain it won’t be compatible, if it has a make then check their own website and see if they sell two different versions, if they do then nope won’t fit
  29. Sorry, yes, looking to enable the feature that allows you to centrally lock your doors from the remote fob, whilst the engine is running and the key is not present. My BMW could do this by locking the key whilst holding the key at the bottom of the windscreen on the outside tricking the car into thinking it was inside. I can't find any area of the car around the bulkhead this works on the Karoq and read that it required programming on VCDS?

Yes, that's exactly the same behaviour. But it first happened in a parking garage where there's no snow, fog or cold weather. Also I'm still having the issue so I believe if I take it to the dealer maybe they can find out what's wrong. I'm beginning to question Skoda's quality control...
  31. Look at ur windscreen - if it has a camera like this, then it's the A5 version. Open ur bonnet and look at the white sticker on top of either headlight. If it ends in "A" u have the normal Bi-xenon headlights which can do HBA. If it ends in "B", then u have SLA Bi-xenon headlights.
  32. Skoda recently released a software update to fix the PDC issue. My car had the update done last week by the dealership - so far so good. An OTA MIB software update is pending to fix some instability issues with the infotainment system.
  33. UK here. I've had both 1969 OTA back in December (not sure why as I was already on 1969 that I upgraded myself. Must of been a module that was lower version than OTA) And had 1985 just after the new year

Its a bit of a known issue on all VAG cars. Use silicone spray lube to lubricate the base of the pin, then press the pin in/out a few times with your thumb to work the lube in. The problem seems to be moisture getting in to the solenoid gubbins down the pin. Silicone lube helps keep it at bay. It may fail (as said its a common issue) which is a PITA if it fails closed. It will be covered under warranty if you have one. DO NOT force open yourself unless its an emergency, call Skoda Assist to come sort it. If assist or the fixing dealer break the flap forcing it open, they / warranty cover the repair but will not if you've broken it. Google will throw up plenty of threads on the subject. FWIW I've been regularly silicone lubing my VW ID.4 flap locking pin for the past 4 years and it still operates smoothly.

As first mentioned above, there's a coolant leak and likely corrosion. It often means the heater matrix is corroded which in turn damages the pump and thermostat.
  36. I think Renault just needed a more roomy small car than the 5 ie one you can get a pram in for example. Drawing on nostalgia appears to be a big plus. So some of the styling drawing from the old Renault 4 but really just the slightly bigger, taller, bigger boot built on the 5 platform. 5 seems good value so may end up with the 5 rather than the 4. Just wish Renault kept the 5 styling but had more room in the back and bigger boot. A 5 lwb version so more space like the Scenic has over the Megane etech.
  37. Mines got Goodyear Eagle F1’s 225/40 R19 93 Y
  38. I still have the original Skoda towbar from my former Felicia 'Magic' estate, which I had removed for repainting, but the new owner didn't want a towbar ... is anyone looking for one of these? [I don't know whether it fits the Fun, but strongly suspect that it does]. Also, I shall presently be looking to dispose of my collection of Felicia and Favorit parts ... and a Felicia hatchback still in remarkable condition, once I can get her back on the road with a new MoT ... please sing out if you might be interested.
  39. No, the narrative was set out years ago and dissent ruthlessly suppressed. "We"? The 70 million people in the UK? Infinitely less of a problem than the 1.4 billion people in China? It's like sweeping the deck of the titanic instead of fixing the hull. Ooh! Is this one of those posts where you say you want to force people to change their lifestyle to suit your ideology, then shortly afterwards object to me pointing out you're trying to force people to change their lifestyles to suit your agenda? I'll say it yet again: Stop trying to force people to adopt your ideology. Persuasion would be acceptable, force is unacceptable.
  40. UP ON THEM ! The @Thefeliciahacker will get a heart attack if he sees this.

The water pump and thermostat might need replacing, but they won't put water in your passenger footwell. I think you're right about the heater matrix. I think you're also right to be very sceptical about that dealer. If you can find a good independent, that might be a much better route to explore. Alternatively, this thread might be worth a read.

Given that the conversation has, momentarily and not unreasonably, moved to NCAP following my refence to the new Duster, perhaps it would have been equally pertinent to comment on the other model I mentioned .... the Mazda CX30. It has a rather commendable set of figures to its name and if I may snip a quote from elsewhere ...... exceptional 99 per cent score in the Adult Occupant category – making the Mazda CX-30 the first vehicle to ever achieve this near-perfect score. It also earned maximum points for frontal full-width impact, as well as the maximum for both barrier and pole side impacts. But whilst the Dacia's less than stunning NCAP rating was picked up (understandably enough) no-one here took any notice of that. For those that take notice of the NCAP ratings I'd have thought the Mazda figures were pretty outstanding.
  43. My 2018 1.5 TSI manual has cut out since new. It does not happen very often but as there is no warning it can be extremely dangerous e.g. entering a fast dual carriageway from a side turning this has happened on more than one occasions. Some on here have tried to explain the fault as due to an individuals style of driving to me that is absolute rubbish. Having owned 40+ cars over 60 years it has never occurred on any other car. I even feel more confident driving our 1936 Morgan . What makes the situation worse is that neither the dealers nor VW group acknowledge that there is a problem. The Karok is the last VW group car we will ever buy
  44. Maybe fuel related? Has the fuel filter been changed recently. Could be partly blocked or at the moment here frozen. Alasdair
  45. Early versions of the sport line edition must’ve had the last of the old style steering wheels.. New ones now coming through have the new style “SKODA” steering wheel after all - picture is not the best, but you can see the design. I guess this shows the way the production lines transition from one spec to another. Not sure if this is the new style wheel for other Karoq models as this is the first one I’ve seen.
  46. What is the indicated idle speed? The symptoms sound like they could be low idle/ early cold enrichment cancel.
  47. Just to put in good word for ACC, previously I've had cars with just normal CC and my Karoq is the first with ACC and I wouldn't now buy any car without it. Sure, it only recognises the car immediately in front + traffic in the iadjacent right hand lane, but I find it overall makes it easier for me to think about traffic further ahead and behind and I now anticipate and take corrective action more than I used to, leading to a smoother driving experience. I also feel more relaxed at the end of a long journey. Maybe it just suits my particular driving style, but I used to find normal CC frustrating when not being able to maintain a constant speed in busy motorway traffic situations, with all that annoying brake and throttle footwork + having to switch CC on again. I admit ACC's not perfect, being slow to recognise a vehicle that suddenly cuts you up in front & too slow to let loose a vehicle in front when you pull out to overtake - so I pull out earlier wherever possible, which is safer anyway. Overall ACC is a substantial upgrade over CC as far as I'm concerned, but clearly doesn't suit everyone.
  48. Hey dude, long time no see etc. As @skomaz says, it would be good to hear more from you, and a steer to the Britcar and 90s Superturisme would also be appreciated. Life threw me a major curve ball in chronic kidney failure so I spend a bit of time on YouTube, and like to follow people I know and/or subjects I'm interested in.
