  1. Same engines, but not the same chassis. The mk2 octy is built on a modified version of the mk4 golf chassis. Pretty sure the 2010 Passat (B6?) is the first generation be on the MQB chassis, along with mk5/6 golf etc, that Skoda got to use for the mk3 octy.
  2. Not the clearest photos but nonetheless we were blown away to spot three Kingfishers in total last night!!! And a few other birds too........
  3. Hello @zh-zh-zh - yes, the roads are bad also down here in the Scottish Borders! I also know how bad the roads are in Edinburgh. I recommend a good all season tyre to help calm the suspension jiggle. We've been using Goodyear All Season Vector3 tyres in our Octavia household for a while. They have a 205/55/R16 option (the size for the 1.0TSI) available and it should help calm the suspension niggles. https://www.goodyear.eu/en_gb/consumer/why-goodyear/all-seasons.html#benefits
  4. I bought a 2021 MG5 Exclusive (Estate) in White that has done 33,525 miles. Not a Long Range just a 52.5 kWh / 48.8 kWh usable. Max charging 80 kW CCS but only a maximum 6.6 kW AC (Not 11 kW) Tyres are fine for now but once i see what range i get All Season will be going on, & a tow bar for bike rack or trailer.
  5. OPS error disappeared overnight and if you take out of gear it clears the screen after a few seconds so all good now This is what its like
  6. In the absense of any corroboration on the need to modify the switch, I decided after measuring again and using a bit of Blue Tac, that it was fouling where I thought it was as per previous photos. So I taped up the selector to stop any bits of plastic going in, took a deep breath, and ran the tip of my power file across the R/H side of the switch to take some of the plastic off. I have to say that I ended up taking more off than I was comfortable with to get the gaiter plate to fit - almost down to the two securing tabs (removing some of the reinforcing plastic above them). However, the switch plate still feels as secure as it did before. @logiclee Thanks for the info on the indy who fitted yours, but I didn't get any reply from them on how they had done it. Maybe if they have done something similar, they aren't too keen on saying. @jtmattila Not sure where this leaves you having a left hand drive car. The switch plate does look narrower on the L/H side where your gear indicator is going to be but that is as far as I can say. So to sum up, whilst this has been a success, if anyone wants to attempt it themselves, they do so at their own risk. The part isn't cheap and you can't exactly return it when you have hacked lumps out of it as I had to do.
  7. Thanks to those who replied to my query, purchased today and as said previously it runs from the date the current subscription expires.
  8. I checked and the VRS diesel takes a 307mm spring by the looks. Unfortunately it’s not a spring that is causing the issue, it’s something else. Opened a new thread for help on that.
  9. So now you have Bolero MIB1, with Bluetooth, with DAB, part number 5E0035842A, with USB 5Q0035726B and funortunately you have CANTON sound system. You can install one of four different OEM glove box units: - MIB2 Bolero - MIB2 Amundsen - MIB2 Columbus - MIB2.5 Columbus You also need to replace display unit: - for MIB2 Bolero you can use either 6.5" model number 5E0919605H or 8" model number 5E0919605N - for MIB2 Amundsen and MIB2 Columbus you can use listed above display as well as 6.5" model number 5E0919605J, 8" model number 5E0919606, 8" model number 5E0919605M - for MIB2.5 Columbus the only display unit that works is 5E0919606D You have to replace CANTON sound system amplifier. New amplifier must be coded online. If you would like to use Apple CarPlay then you also have to replace USB port. The question is what is your budget and which of listed below features are "must have": - Video playback from DVD, USB, SD - CD playback - OEM navigation - displaying OEM maps in Virtual Cluster (Active Info Display). All units support SmartLink (Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink), rear view camera, voice command. features that differ them: - MIB2 Bolero - no OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB - MIB2 Amundsen - OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster) - MIB2 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, no support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster) - MIB2.5 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)
  10. I’m sure the ratios are different 3.444 compared to 3.333
  11. Maybe but thats what its designed for. This model does not have any built in sat-nav sadly. Head office have escalated the issue.
  12. Can be connected after conversion, in case MIB2 High. Mine 2015 MIB2 High has fiber optic, then was converted into 2.5 and successfully connected to VC btw, apologies, I quoted incorrectly, the question was to AMD87
  13. @wellaflex @mr25 : luckily I ordered the right one: https://ebay.us/m/YI1uTT
  14. Not legal for the UK. Honestly, if I was going down that line, look for some dedicated winter tyres. All Seasons will cover most eventualities (especially considering we have warmer winters - and they will deal with Snow and cold down to about -10C).
  15. @jonzi55 start with sharing VIN of your car.
  16. You'll need the advice of @pab567 in that case.
  17. No - its a thing. TDI engines can be oil burners if they aren't sympathetically run-in and regular oil changes aren't done every 10,000 miles or time-based servicing. You would need to check the bores with a borescope to confirm this though. The trouble is...this is a forum and we are responding to similar issues that we've all experienced in the past. Your original posting suggested the car is using a high level of oil and the DPF blockage is the result of the issue of the engine passing/burning oil. Doing a Hydraclean will fix the problem....for five minutes. EGR blockage will cause poor running and in the worst case, crankcase over-pressuration. My betting is that you have a blown turbo with that high level of oil consumption. That will show up as a fault and you really need a scan done of the car for a better idea of what the car is unhappy about. Get a proper VAG specialist onto the case and get yourself a proper diagnosis.
  18. 5C is the latest anti-theft system. 5A is the old anti-theft system. 2015 to 2019 use the 5A anti-theft cockpit. 2015 to 2017 r MIB2 units, but can't connect to VC. 2018 to 2019 r MIB2.5 units. These can connect to VC with fiber optic. Superb produced after 2020 is classified 5C anti-theft. 5C is Ethernet based. Facelift uses MIB3 units. If the anti-theft system and the cockpit do not match - it won't work.
  19. Not phased by the MG reliability placing in recent surveys ? Hopefully you have a good one and MG do right by you if it needs anything !
  20. There are leathercare products available, and I've used them in the past. But to be honest, a simple interior trim spray was cheaper, easier and far superior.
  21. I have the Mini for another year or longer. RAC insurance was crazy. NCB used on other cars. They wanted £1,000 with Ageas. Confused.com allow for driving other cars and no claims like the Mobility car. £450 with Ageas. Breakdown, windscreen legal cover etc. New brake pads getting fitted and fluid being done, filter and the MOT as that was due in October. It is 80 kW CCS / DC charging.
  22. Your lease seems to have gone by quickly! I just signed up for an ID.3 Match 79kWh model on lease to replace the ID.4. Happy new car to you!
  23. The EGT error was not a P545 Error by any chance? Mine chucks it up based on ambient temp and gives the flashing glow plug warning light appearing (and disappearing dependent on the temperate climate it annoyingly dislikes) stopping the regen. That leads to the EML and eventually we hit the DPF warning if I ignore it for too long. I keep a simple ODB reader in the door pocket and clear the P545 fault every so often to avoid it becoming a problem. I think you may be on the money with a previous keeper choosing to ignore/hide the DPF issue and clogged that and then buggering things up further along into the engine. I'd be tempted to drop the DPF and clean it off the vehicle and while you've made the space pull the EGR valve to see what condition this is in as the least expensive option. Is the Turbo actually bad?
  24. Thanks @Awesam That’s actually my post on the 206 group!😂 Also dropped a thread in this forum on the install here: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/534023-retrofittingupgrading-to-a-progressive-steering-rack/
  25. as per the earlier pages in this TPMS discussion topic - yes, tyre pressure for each tyre can b viewed on the infotainment screen as well as the dashboard screen (VC or analog). if u follow the coding and adaptation instructions correctly, u'll b good. u don't need VCP or ODIS for this part. u can use either VCDS or OBDEleven. with regards to swapping screens, i don't know about the MIB3 units. with pre-facelift Superb, it requires the MIB2 unit firmware to be updated to MIB2.5 firmware, during which the 8" screen is swapped out for the 9.2" screen. there was no need of coding the screen in this instance.
  26. This was the log I made with VCDS. The top grey trace is the G62 the lower dark blue trace is the G83. You can see that the G83 line doesn't move until the thermostat opens and normal circulation begins.
  27. 88 degrees as a choice (by the ecu) sounds off to me because it's not showing any cooling done by the rad. I have logged and graphed the two sensors together on my VW diesel van and as the G62 records the warm up on a drive the G83 stays flat lined until the thermostat opens then it goes up to about 40 degrees and waves around that point according to load on the engine. If I had to chose a fixed value for the G83 it would assume that the radiator is doing some cooling.
  28. 1 point
Just an update to you all, after all your advice today, I have managed to access and check relevant boxes on the developer settings on my Huawei P20 Pro phone, the Android Auto App, and the AA Wireless App I reset my phone to apply changes. Tomorrow is a new day, so I will attempt another setup on my Octavia System... Fingers crossed it works... 🤞😊
  29. Just adding another relay 484 example from 2007 Roomster, works after resoldering.
  30. Uploading Attachment... Replaced rear shock absorbers. There was a bit more than 'light misting' going on with the old ones, and not a lot of damping! Car feels much more stable now and road noise is reduced.
  31. Couple of drone shots of our project, thankfully now more completed than not..
  32. Shout out to Cord-EV. Ordered an nice 10M 22 Kw,3 phase therefore cable in the lovely pus colour as shown below. Sadly the ran out of pus so I got one with white ends. Weighs a bit mind you as I think there is a fair old bit of copper in there. Good bit was the price, a bagatelle at £89 including the VAT. Nice lady phoned to apologies I was not getting the stunning colour below but all good at that price ! Can now charge a car behind the two on the drive nearest the house so no more shuffling the car to the front pairing now ! https://www.cord-ev.com/ev-cables-portable-ev-chargers.html
  33. OTOH I once knew a mechanic who noticed this and put an item on the bill "painting fasteners as per originals"
  34. Eyks - high oil consumption alert. 300ml in 115 miles is extremely high. You are allowed 1 litre per 1200 miles, so your figures are way higher than that. Suspect that either you have stuck piston rings, a blown turbo, a blocked EGR valve. The DPF will continue to get choked up with soot until you get the oil consumption under control.
  35. Coding mostly solved, but could do with some small assistance but visual lines also showing. I think from diagnostics and rear parking all the sensors seem to be operating I think. As it was already warning when you are getting close and very close Now found following some adaptions it is come up and working correctly ( sort of)! I now have display lines that work along with the beeps. At some points it says "OPS is not available" I think each time the car stops/ starts - but still carries on and displays parking sensing anyway!?! Also after taking out of reverse it doesn't automatically immediately remove the sensing, I think it does momentarily if you move though so not sure if there is further coding for this. So 90% working with some minor gripes The coding I assumed from "VW Up 2012 - RVC and PDC retrofit - nothing on the display Adaptions are not good I think: ENG122227-ENG117496-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc,activated ,60 ENG122227-ENG117500-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc_after_disclaimer,activated ,60 - set to NOT activated ENG122227-ENG117497-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc_clamp_15_off,activated ,60 - set to NOT activated ENG122227-ENG117498-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc_over_threshold_high,activated ,60 ENG122227-ENG117499-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc_standstill,activated ,60 - set to NOT activated ENG122229-ENG117710-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-parking_assist_0x0A,not activated ,64 - set to ACTIVATED ENG122229-ENG117711-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-parking_assist_0x0A_msg_bus,not activated ,64 - set Terminal 15 Test reset radio and let us know! " The ones I turned on were menu_display_pdc ( did this before but didnt get anything), plus the threshold one, and the 0x0A were ones I didn't apply or couldn't apply for some reason before but now activated. May need some more experimentation depending on how much it annoys my wife.
  36. What a song and dance has come about because of comments from a fully pensioned & invested up member bought 2 drinks while charging an EV. Each to their own. 'Cut your coat to suit the cloth'. Getting BIK, home charging, paid for their mileage etc. All that is missing is Lunch in , Luncheon Vouchers. Green Shield stamps & getting the deposit back on a glass bottle, or before that a bottle and a stopper.
  37. The thing about standard is the shocks are prone to leaking. And they don’t seem any cheaper than aftermarket. My first leak is at just under 28,000 miles so I either start replacing individual corners at a time, or axles perhaps, or swap the whole lot out (I’ve gone for the latter hoping I get longevity). Seat/Skoda were supplied by Monroe whereas Audi/VW were supplied by KYB. Could be the latter were better built if they have fewer incidences of leaking so putting those in may result in lower replacement frequency.
  38. My honest opinion would be neither car. Reason being is at 400 miles a week and you want to keep it for at least 6 years you would put another 125,000 on it, that amounts to quite a few total miles and while the Superb is quite capable of doing that total mileage you have to consider maintenance/repair costs as the mileage builds. If you are prepared to pay these potential costs then go for the diesel, reason being who knows what the battery replacement costs could be should the iV require a new battery pack and other related electrical components as well as more regular servicing over longlife services of the diesel. In my opinion (and I could well be wrong) there is less to go wrong with the diesel over time. Others on the forum may well be much more knowledgeable on how a battery pack will survive over extended mileage/time. My money would go on an older lower mileage model - buts that just me.
  39. sorry for the bump, i recently got the Burteq memory module for Octavia mk 4 https://burteq.com/products/octavia-4-memory-module?variant=48608674808132 based on the recommendations in this thread, and had it installed - it works perfectly. it basically saves your current settings (drive mode, start-stop on/off) and resets them every time you open ignition. i had it professionally installed, the installer told me its connectors are of high quality. it also features "service mode" in which you can easily disable the module with 9 clicks on a single driving mode

  41. Should’ve offered it to Gav on the fb groups. He regularly picks them up weekly for breaking. I could do with a couple of bits off that, might go and have a look.
  42. You are not going mad. I've seen it but have to have route guidance selected in the left or right display. Here I have google maps on infotainment, maps on centre display and route guidance on left display. Notice the message saying towards Langford Rd. That's being generated from Google Maps and I'll often see ETA etc flash up.
  43. Do you really think they’re going lay on they’re back in the footwell and look for a small black box that looks like a relay buried under the dash?
