The end! Rusty has gone to a new home. Still coming to terms with it tbh.

A step on the journey to financial freedom and affording to retire before I’m 80 years old.
  3. Ok - just an update - we've solved the issue. As I suspected it was a fractured/broken wire which was causing all the issues. It's our belief that it was most probably caused by work that was done by the main dealer when changing a crankshaft sensor as the the issues started happening shortly after the car came back from them. Obviously this cannot be proven but at least we've sorted the problem. Happy days!!
  4. I agree the car it self drives well. its the software around it that is a buggy mess. A lot of issues have been fixed with software updates and here in AUS have to get the Dealer to apply the updates as there is no OTA for us:/ I think most of my issues have been resolved with software updates. I also had audio issues where the audio would just not work until the power was fully drained. a software update fixed that. same with the AC controls. and FOB issue.
  5. I buy my oil in £68 20 litre Mannol 7715 cannisters from ebay. And aim to do oil changes every 8,000 miles. With air, fuel and cabin filters less often. DIY servicing is a satisfying job to do. You'll probably find that brake pad and disk replacements are easy jobs. As are rear shock absorbers. I bought a £300 Launch diagnostic tablet that's had a fair amount of use on all our 4 cars in the family. Including resetting service intervals.
  6. First visit in ages to Attenborough Nature reserve this morning. Spotted what I thought might be a Lapwing in the far distance? Along with a few others
  7. Had a MK4 vRS for 3 and a bit years and it was fine. Some gremlins with the infotainment on delivery, but pulled a fuse and it was fine after that. Have a mk 4.5 vRS and it's even better!
  8. I bought my car 6 months ago and I'm very happy with it, it's a 2023 model 1.5 Premium. I haven't encountered any problems, thank goodness.

Morning commute today - and we're caught up.
  10. Hi All, Just to say I have successfully had the following kit fitted…. Raises the Ride height by about 30mm. I have an L&K Octavia estate with the 4x4 but not a scout model. Wanted that extra ground clearance as not afraid to use it on the odd occasion off road if needed. Also on the way to work often come across some large floods/puddles so this would help. Done over 500 miles since having them fitted, and make no difference to the ride comfort and haven’t noticed any issues with handling. I am Running 225/50 R17 Michelin Cross climates as well, Informed insurance about the lift and no additional charge. 11. I continue to be impressed with the fuel economy of my pre-FL 2024 mild hybrid 150hp Octavia. Yesterday, a 320 km trip with average speed of 61km/h, constituting a mix of slow city driving and about 250km of 140km/h or 120km/h speeds over a 6h period yielded a 4.8l/100km consumption (that's 58.9 mpg in the UK). The drive included driving across the Graian Alps, through the Frejus tunnel. I really can't complain!
  12. Noooo. It's like a well loved Brisky member has suddenly just disappeared off the face of the earth! Still there's room for a big V8 in your garage now hopefully

Hi all, New member to the forum, I have browsed before and found some of the threads very useful when diagnosing issues with my 2015 Octavia VRS. Looking forward to engaging with the helpful community. Thanks Penfold

Hi Penfold, How’s Danger Mouse these days? 😉 glad the aite has helped you out before joining, imagine how helpful it will be when you ask questions! 😂
  15. To make up for the cam belt changes they are now not doing? 😉 Thanks. AG Falco
  16. The issue with the brake fluid is that it is water absorbent (hygroscopic) and the water in solution can cause brake failure under repeated heavy braking when it boils. I don't think the increased use of the fluid by the tech is the issue. You would think that a car brake system could be adquately sealed to prevent moist air getting in (eg a rubber membrane under the filler cap that allows changes in fluid level without air being pushed in and out, as you get on motorbikes) but it seems that car manufacturers prefer to simply change the fluid more often. I can't imagine why! Regarding the wipers, if they were actually damaged or worn then fine. But I have never yet noticed any problem with the front wipers.
  17. Hope it's a warranty job.....🤞 Good luck.
  18. No, the EPB gets very upset if you wind them back by any method other than using the module to command the motor to wind the pads back.
  19. Around 100k it is a good idea to change the oil in a DQ200. There are two - the oil in the gearbox itself, and then the MCU.
  20. Connect obd11 Go to unit 6D BASIC Settings Teach flap opening angle Start Open the Trunk Close the Trunk Stop Basic Settings
  21. I think your better removing them whe the engine has been run and is hot. Thats what my old mechanic friend always said. He reckons its less likely to snap them. As yours have been replaced it shouldnt be a problem. Alasdair
  22. Just serviced my 2.0tdi superb. 155000 miles. Did oil and oil filter, air filter and pollen filter. Parts cost me 75 quid for Castrol oil and Bosch filters, took an hour and a half. Just looked up how much that would cost at a local garage and it's 280 quid, they do things like check battery health and other bits and bobs. But that's mental. I'm not mechanic but it was very simple really.
  23. I've come across cases where the earth to the switchpack is poor, but not completely 'gone'. Try lifting the switchpack out, and add another, good earth to the brown wire on pin 1 of the switchpack loom connector. See if anything changes. Other thing you could try if feeling adventurous is to disassemble that loom connector by defeating the latch and sliding the two halves (brown and black) apart. Then extract white/black and black/green wires and swap their positions so white/black is now on 4. That would effectively make the switches operate the opposite windows to what they did before. See if the problem moves to passenger side.

@Ryanthefireman Aperture hasn’t been on since July. He has been very sporadic all year; I don’t know if anyone’s spoken to him but I think other stuff just took priority. Try sending him a PM in case but otherwise, probably best not to hold your breath on this

Hi, I'm new to join for this forum however I read a few topic already. I have a Octavia Scout Mk2 2.0TDI 2009 regplate and I'm from Rutland, UK :) also I have an other Octavia MK2 which is 2010 August 1.6 tdi. Thanks to read :)
  26. Check the wiring to number 4. I think the ground circuit is the path taken back to the neutral side of battery from glow plug. It could be a faulty plug, wiring isssue or the glow plug control timer unit itself. If they have just been replaced they should come out fairly easily for testing. You could always swap 4 and say three to see if the fault code changes cylinder to rule out glow plug or confirm fault in wiring. Alasdair
  27. Only one question... Why???????
  28. I’ll be watching this later on, but… wwwhhhhaaaaat???? I thought your kids would be trying to figure out who was gonna be getting Rusty on which weekends in a few decades.
  29. Thanks, AP . Ive changed two in 20 years. Likewise ive walked into Halfrauds etc and quoted VRN.
  30. Even though the Trinity wheels are Diamond Cut they are still clearcoated over the top. So that’s not a problem at all. I’ve done wheels for a customer before and did 2 coats of Carpro CQuartz which would work absolutely fine. Maybe some wheel-dedicated ones could withstand higher temps but otherwise I’d be interested to know exactly what the difference really is
  31. The greyness isn't the issue - that's the charcoal adsorbent they come with. It's the shed loads of organic crap in the folds that's the issue. I was checking because the airflow out of the vents wasn't great. Strange how a new filter fixed that.
  32. Was gonna start a new thread but seen this one. Had the Mk4 for 6 months now. When I'm asked "how's the new car" I reply "its not a car. It's a toy" I'm being serious, an over-engineered toy. I have a list of issues typed up that I'll show to the dealer at first service time but not holding my breath for fixes. The toy leaves me shaking my head in disbelief almost on a daily basis. Yesterdays issues:- Listening to a few tunes from a USB stick plugged into the front port. All of a sudden music stops followed by around 30 seconds of silence then music resumes (did it twice and never did this before in 6 months before yesterday). A little cracking noise followed by the infotainment rebooting itself (never did this before either) It just seems to be a different thing almost every day and reviewing this thread makes me think it's not a fault with the car - do they all do stuff like this or is it worth asking the dealer to fix the almost endless list of issues?
  33. Here is a picture of a pollen filter. 7,000 miles after it was changed by a main dealer. Looks like the original to me - at this point 26K miles and three years. It was absolutely rammed with silver birch seeds - yet the local trees hadn't cast seed in the 7K miles / 8 months since the service. I know what I think.......
  34. Thumbs up from me. 👍 But did you do everything else like checking all the suspension joints and bushes individually with a good light and a bar where necessary? CV boots checked and listen out for any clicking on full lock on the road? Tyres and pressures? A good look round all the coil springs for fractures and check that the top suspension mountings turn smoothly? Did you check both pistons in the rear wheel cylinders were free (drums obv) and check the function of the handbrake? Spin up all wheel bearings? All the lights (including headlamp motors) for correct function plus washers and wipers? Oil all hinges and check locks? Look out for corrosion on body, brake and fuel pipes? Check boot for spare tyre if applicable and corrosion. Seat belts not loose, frayed and working correctly? Diagnostic check? Good road test? No gearbox, suspension or engine noises? Might have missed a few things.. Tongue in cheek post of course 🤪 but there is a lot more than just changing oil and filters. Plus the garages have to pay to dispose of all contaminated commercial waste. They used to have to have 9 separate chargeable bins when I was in the trade. Lots of H&S and insurances too.
  35. The updates install without any problems, thank you. The situation with navigation is "This function is unavailable." as far as I know, it needs to be decoded, but I haven't found the information yet. Maybe you have information?
  36. That looks fairly ok, very good for such mileage. Notice how it starts by the fixing elements, the zinc coating does not resist as the painted sections, and some of the bolts show signs of it. But overall, looks very good. About the rest, I can't comment as I am fairly new to this family, but I am sure others with more experience will chime in with their advice and horror tales - possibily not! 😁
  37. In the end I paid my 8 euros and went onto Erwin. Yes 40k for the plugs and 80k for the DSG as expected. It’s crazy that “customer services” couldn’t tell me that! Although with the last 280tsi I forgot about the spark plugs and didn’t replace them until about 70k. To be honest it was very difficult to tell the difference between the ones I took out and the new ones, other than the latter were cleaner. I couldn’t see any electrode wear and certainly the car went no better after I replaced them
  38. Sold my Mk 4 and rolled back to a Mk 3. Very ,very happy to be rid of this heap of IT error ridden junk that thinks that after 55 years driving I’m a total moron needing protection from myself.
  39. Interesting, your pic looks a lot like the damage often seen on areas like the DSG stick that is usually caused by people's rings hitting the trim as they shift. If your hands are not bejeweled, then this really is a case of substandard materials. That said, I've done 15.5K in mine in two years, wheel and DSG shifter plastic chrome still unblemished. No rings or bracelets, just an Apple Watch that doesn't interfere.

If your car has also DSG, there are also interconnectivity problems with the gearbox as well, but I think your is manual, right? You best chance, if you really want to embark in thar journey (heed the advice written above!) is to replace your unit with an equivalent "family" powerplant. This way, you minimize issues arising from a different engine management system, etc. In your case, I would look for a 2.0tdi of the same lineage, would certainly not "downgrade" to an older PD unit - nothing about about them, just too older a powerplant for your vehicle.
  41. It most definitely will NOT brake!! Trust me, I know, whilst doing 80 km/h towards a car already stopped at the lights!! ACC relies on a moving reference target (in the same direction and lane as u r travelling in) to determine if it needs to slow down. A stationary object (car stopped at the traffic lights) will NOT tell the ACC on ur car to slow down gracefully. Instead it will scream "BRAKE!" at u, and then hit the stationary car/object that was stopped at the lights....if u don't react on time jumping on ur brakes!! Manoeuvre Assist (available from MY18 onwards) will actually stop u from hitting something, but only works at below a certain speed, i.e. parking speeds. It won't stop u when travelling at normal speeds on the roads.
  42. Fire fighting at sea is very specific and take i these click bait videos with handfuls of salt. There is a huge technical challenge as whole length of the ship decks for loading the cars on to is the norm and has been for decades. Our Indianapolis class car carriers, including the Silverstone commissioned a few weeks ago, has 12 separate decks and multiple fire fighting systems. Being a trained at sea fire fighter, trained in marine engineering, naval architecture, sea survival i would give some credibility to such videos if he listed his actual credentials at some point in the videos. There is a guy who I do listen to and it's not this guy. I expect there will be review of these fires on these smaller vessels and lessons learned as fire fighting at sea, like on land dies evolve. CO2 flooding of compartments has long been one of the main tools but there are even newer and more effective systems now. I'll post the name of the guy I reckon to be more qualified to comment when I find his details.
  43. That was interesting. I'm still going with the CC2's on my GTI. They went on at 17k miles in September 2021, it's now on 41k miles and they still have life in them. Given that I've previously said I won't have them again, but will likely go back to Pilot Sports, with the advent of the CC3 Sport, it might be they have what I've found a bit lacking in the 2's? 6.1mm fresh out of the box doesn't seem much (at least compared to others), but I'd not complain if they last anywhere near as long as the 2's have. Off topic, but we recently changed the PS4's on the Polo to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric 6's, and I have to say I really like them. Nice bit of rim protection on them too 👍 Gaz
  44. Quick job today to clean up the leaking joint to the heater, and fix. Yeah right 4 hrs later an extra trip to @repconz - really helpful staff at New Plymouth branch as always. The pipe I got was a bit snug and took some cursing to get on but I got there and the rusty pipe is gone.
  45. Quite pleased with that! There was a bit of an incident with some gold spray paint being used in the garage! So power wash, snow foam, power wash, hand wash, power wash, clay bar x 3, then polish !!

This is absolutely incredible. It's not that we don't agree with your comment - we are simply asking (for the fifth, or sixth time now) where you got this information from, as it is contrary to what we otherwise know. I'm not entirely sure where the aggression is, if I'm honest, and I think this has been clarified about three times. As you seem to be having a hard time understanding, let me put it another way - @super717 - "I've been told to inspect my DQ200 every 20k, and service it every 40k" @Ootohere @OccyVRS - "That's interesting, where did you hear this?" @super717 - "If you don't agree with me, ask for the post to be taken down" @Ootohere @OccyVRS - "Oh, no no, we're just asking where you were told this, that's all!" @Gammyleg - "Yeah, I've found this on my box so you might be right, but you can't check the oil level" @Ootohere @OccyVRS - "Agreed. OP, who told you this?" @super717 - "Keyboard warriors, aggression, it's up to people to read someones random claims and take action" I don't understand how it can be this difficult. I give up.
  47. Slightly different method of removing the glovebox here as well where the guy explains a bit more in depth the process. This video helped me a lot when I was trying to hardwire a dashcam. https://youtu.be/ZD2rOX7xx4A

the part is £55 from Euro carparts after apply discount if you wish to source yourself https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/haas-egr-valve-424440651 this vid should give you better understanding of why the EGR is failing, as there might be vacuum coming from the pipe but if the EGR is leaking the valve won't open and will give you a warning light on the dash
