  1. I reckon Fountains Abbey in the Mist rivals Whitby Abbey?
  2. Great pics. I still like wonderful Whitby though. Pic taken in October for a Photo Comp with 'Reflections' as the subject.
  3. Wow!!!! Fantastic suggestion.......I don't know why I never thought of doing that , i.e. locking the tailgate manually with a screwdriver shaft.....Not only did it put the warning light on the car silhouette out , but the rear wiper is working and so too is the rear washer pump. What a result. So..... all I need to do is move the striker plate a few millimetres out from the present location and it should perhaps work......if only life was that simple. Someone has been at the large torx bolts and bu**ered up the heads of the bolts . They are large bolts for sure and it'll be interesting finding a way to get them out , and of course they will need to be replaced. But thank you so much for your suggestion......I was beginning to think I would never find the answer........another little job will be repairing those damaged wires now, but at least I know what was the REAL reason for the lack of enthusiasm from the rear wiper and its associated washer pump.....I owe you a BIG BEER! :-))))
  4. Even on the mk4 it's only a swipe and press to do it.
  5. How many wire connections are there on the trunk latch? I have seen references, in some models, to the sensor switch being incorporated in the latch itself - are you able to try manually closing the latch while the tailgate is open, to test if the 'gate open' indicator extinguishes then?
  6. Looking for a replacement PCV valve and hose for my 2016 TSI 280. Awesome and AKS have the valve (original VAG) on for £120. AKS list the hose for £80 ish. Looking at AUTODOC there appears to be a number of cheaper options. Fully aware that some of these could be junk, are there any of them worth getting, being as my original has lasted the best part of 70 thousand miles so far? Also, if anyone has DIY’ed the replacement of the valve and hose, please feel free to share any tips.
  7. Just to close the loop on this one, I've now been using the intelligent headlamps for a couple of weeks and have become more accustomed to them. I still don't think they're quick enough to revert to main beam, and they are reluctant to switch to main beam if there are even small light sources, such as weak street lights, ahead of the car, which means that there are areas of the road ahead which aren't lit as brightly as they would be on main beam, which I could have used without inconveniencing anyone previously. However on balance I will probably stick with the intelligent lighting setup since the main beam light is, for me at least, just too inconspicuous against an instrument cluster with a blue background.
  8. Difficult to say not knowing what really ticks you ... You can do soundproofing .... metal covers for the pedals, including footrest. Mudflaps for keeping bodywork cleaner or additional spoilers/lips all around like Gandalf above. Add rubber lips/door seals, wind deflectors, mats ... list if endless! Also there are a few tweaks, if you have access to diagnostic software!
  9. Thanks all for your helpful replies. Usually I wouldn't look at such a low mileage vehicle but this was owned by a retired engineer and has been very well looked after, with oil changes done after only 2k miles some years. The service work was done by a well-respected independent garage, and looking at the service receipts they've used the correct oil for the fixed annual servicing. Moving forward, I will probably switch to the Millers Oils C3 as I use them in my other car (a different oil though) and results seem good. Might have a go at changing the oil in the summer myself.
  10. Why apologizing? IMHO, it’s much more relevant to enrich an existant thread (even an old one) than creating a nth one on the same subject, which in the end dilutes all the knowledge. What you´ve done is simply a ´best practice’. Thus, Thank you very much! 🙂
  11. Bosch website suggests the A335 for the rear: https://www.boschwiperblades.com/xc/en-gb/basic-page.html/-/en-gb/478dafb54dab9771f6adabf9705fe54dd0d454ee/period_4277_2964_07_2022_12_9999/SKODA_OctaviaIVEstate_2022
  12. I've got one in the UK. Probably the only one. I know it was brought in by Skoda in 2020 and registered in 2021 as a Superb Sportline Plus 280 it's had the arch spats and bumpers replaced with the more usual Superb ones but retains the black plastic door bottom protectors. Scout badges on the wings and dash, embroidered seats, Scout logo on the screen on start up, 6 selectable driving modes (off-road is the extra one). Rear window blinds in the doors, heated front and rear seats, Canton and the sunroof. Raised suspension 15mm taller than standard Sportline. There's probably more differences that I've still to find out about but the only missing stuff is the removable boot torch and DAB radio. I'm the second owner and have taken it from 16,500 miles up to 30,000. Brilliant car, apologies for the thread resurrection! Guy
  13. Hi All, Just to say I have successfully had the following kit fitted…. Raises the Ride height by about 30mm. I have an L&K Octavia estate with the 4x4 but not a scout model. Wanted that extra ground clearance as not afraid to use it on the odd occasion off road if needed. Also on the way to work often come across some large floods/puddles so this would help. Done over 500 miles since having them fitted, and make no difference to the ride comfort and haven’t noticed any issues with handling. I am Running 225/50 R17 Michelin Cross climates as well, Informed insurance about the lift and no additional charge. Fitting Kit: https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/mk7-platform-mqb-platform-30mm-lift-kit.html
  14. Just posting this for the info of others who don't already own a VCDS and/or OBDeleven device, and don't want to spend a lot of money on either of those (or a subscription). This may be common knowledge to many but I've only seen reference to it in passing, in various places around the forum. Use at your own risk. For reference, this is what I own and have used: MY2017 (registered 2016) Skoda Fabia Mk3 (PQ26 platform) SE Combi with EA211 1.2 TSI 66kW engine (CJZC). MIB2 with 5Q0035842B control unit, supporting Android Auto/Carplay and without navigation. Redmi 9 running MIUI 13, on Android 12. Generic wifi ELM327 dongle*, purchased in 2016 from eBay for £6.50. Car Scanner ELM OBD app, which is free to use with adverts and some limits to parameter monitoring and coding. Costs £4.99 (Android) or £7.99 (iOS) for the lifetime 'pro' version with no ads or limits. *My unbranded wifi dongle is not recommended by the developer of the app, as apparently many dodgy clones and spoof devices have popped up over the years which may not work properly at best, and may cause costly software corruption issues at worst. I've clearly got lucky here. The branded Bluetooth models they suggest start from about £25 on eBay or £30 on Amazon. https://www.carscanner.info/choosing-obdii-adapter/ So apart from the basics - reading and clearing fault OBD codes for diagnostic purposes, for which I've also used it on my 2011 BMW E92 3 Series - it turns out this app can be used to do some coding on the Fabia. The capability list for PQ26 platforms is here: https://www.carscanner.info/coding-pq26/ I have no particular intention of customising the car, however the reason for the post and what I have successfully used it for, is properly registering a new battery to the car, and removing the unclearable 1555 software version management fault code left behind after updating the MIB2. The latter doesn't even require messing about with reading and calculating HEX codes, like other methods. It just does the calculation for you and applies it automatically. Fault code gone, no bother. It's obviously nowhere near as polished as OBDeleven, or as fully-featured and well supported as VCDS, but as a novice I'm chuffed with what I've been able to do with it for a fiver. Highly recommended for the cheapskates among us. 🤣
  15. The last two threads asking the same question went unanswered, so maybe have a look at the Facebook Karoq groups.
  16. Hi Alasdair1 and nta16 The clutch was replaced about 4 months ago shortly after we got it, thankfully under the dealers warranty. Yes it is a low mileage car I suspect previous driver slipped the clutch habitually wearing it out prematurely. I’ve seen that before. I’ve added a photo of the selector in the engine bay with the blanking plug (circled)where the locking lever is most often shown/described. Should have done that in the first place in so people can see what I have and maybe be familiar with this arrangement and it’s working. All input gratefully received. I’ll see if I can improve it.
  17. Was in my local (North West) Skoda dealers this week. They had an offer on for air con regas for £75. I'm not sure if this is a national campaign or specific to them. If you decide on a regas, it's probably worth checking the price at your local dealers. But as they say, if it's working leave it alone.
  18. Assuming you have Technisat unit, I sent you link to MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0140T in PM

Depends on the warranty you have been given and how long you have had the car. Does sound like a worn release bearing. At 53k I doubt it would be the DMF or clutch itself unless its like my sons mk1 fabia that although had very low mileage I reckon previous owner was elderly and prone to high revs and slipping clutch when taking off as it failed without warning at 60k with nothing left of clutch disk. I would monitor it till next service and if its getting worse get it looked at then its Gbox out and as said while your at it a new clutch, Hopefully DMF is good plus fit a new slave cylinder to be on the safe side. Alasdair

Most likely to be the clutch release (“throw out”) bearing. Cheap part, but a gearbox out job. If you get it changed, depending on the mileage on it you’d want to renew the clutch at the same time.

Hello everyone, I bought my first Skoda last summer (2015 mk3 Octavia Tdi) Coming from a VW I have found it to be quite a familiar environment, a few things are different but I feel I know my way around. This looks like a nice friendly, helpful forum so looking forward to participating. Cheers.
  22. I have tapped a bit more, no leaking so far, thanks! I was a bit afraid to tap a bit more cause it went in too far, like on my old Punto, it was tough to remove when it pushed too deep and reapply the new seal again. Merry Christmas.
  23. That's right, buddy, after turning the key again, you can't hear it. So I think there's pressure in the system.
  24. Bit hard to see but maybe the second picture shows a slightly raised section of the crank. The seal is only just on that. On that basis Id tap it in a bit more. However, you really need to check the shaft for a worn groove, as that won't be helping and can well be the main cause
  25. Yup, Superskoda changed their name to Kopacek a number of years ago now. Have a look at my Build Thread for some ideas. I too have a Business Grey Liftback/hatch. This how Gandalf looks like now.
  26. Yes - weird name change but they’re and the same. Plenty of bits on there to look at for sure!
  27. I do feel your anguish ! It’s worth persisting with telling them you want a complete software update mine did take a long time but is working perfectly now and was well worth waiting for. I realy don’t know if anything was replaced or was just software but with more cars they see hopefully gaining experience with the faults it will mean repairing them will become quicker . I wish you the very best of luck .
  28. The thing that is not uncommon is when they drive Left Hand drives and then find when they come to the UK they are not quite as well handling as when on Continental European Roads, controls not really suited to Right hand drive cars, or there are issues needing ironed out like the brake pedal / firewall. There is also Haymarket Media Group / Autocar / What car naming cars Car of the Year and great reviews, and then a year or 3 later when the snagging faults are still not ironed out they say nothing. Maybe even making the Model their Used Car choice. Tha
  29. in the UK you don't get sound insulation under the bonnet because the sounds of crashing about on our rubbish roads means you cannot hear the engine anyway😄
  30. We have a similar car and did all the research and reviews. The reports and the spec are fantastic but I now feel it was a mistake we just have to live with. It's great to drive and your pupils will love it. However, you will not escape reliability anxiety. The boffins came up with a 3 cylinder engine for economy with turbo boost for extra performance when needed. There has been emphasis on emission control and start-stop technology. In the right driving environment that's great but in our area whether it's crawling along the motorway or driving to do a supermarket shop the world is very different. The Fabia 4 has all sorts of electronic glitches which a dealership won't sort out and probably can't. Unfortunately, there are likely to be similar issues with alternative makes and models. Simple is best and older Skodas, the Suzuki Swift, Toyota Auris, Honda Jazz and some ford Focuses would have been a better fit than a Skoda Fabia 4. No certainty with any of them though because there are a multitude of engine technologies for each car.

The Filter is certainly not expensive, just messy to change, As ridiculous as the official recommended, advised, schedule of 80,000 miles given by VW Group / Skoda is the Main Dealers going with not changing the DSG filter until the 2nd Service which could be 80,000 if an owner listen to them.
  32. Agreed mate, the first ones are in the dealership, the second ones wetevaftervzceramic coats had been applied by a professional! 🙂 Thank you ! The red has impressed me even more than I expected.
  33. 1 point
Yeah both filters were fitted and they aren't expensive anyway. No way will i change that oil every 80k I do starship miles 2023 L&K and its already done 113k
  34. 1 point
When i asked Skoda Gloucester what was the DSG oil change intervals they said 80k - i was sure I read 40k ...then back up north i was told 40k so was happy with that. Ive since changed at 40k 80k and coming up to 120k where it will be done again. Must admit everytime I get it changed the transmission is defo smoother.
  35. More pictures after Detailing and Ceramic done- very pleased!
  36. 1 point
I personally would change the oil on my DQ381 at 40k and the filter, which is on similar location but pointing forward(horizontally), not up(vertically) like on DQ250.
  37. We made our annual trip to Donna Nook earlier this afternoon 🦭 https://www.lincstrust.org.uk/get-involved/top-reserves/donna-nook/weekly-update Literally a few minutes old............
  38. Had a trip out to the dams yesterday - Howden overflowing is always an impressive sight (and sound) 👍 Hopefully we'll see hosepipe bans lifted shortly, although perhaps not until Ladybower fills? - currently at 66% VID-20251122-WA0038.mp4
  39. Haven’t managed to get out with the camera since the Holy Island snaps. Had a quick trip to Limerick via Cairnryan-Belfast with the journey from hell. A couple of snaps from the trip. Followed by a day of cleaning the van which took a battering. Been working on the windows of our project, now finally finished off with shutters. Still loads of other stuff to do but motivation is lacking. We didn’t re-install the home cinema system as we were supposed to be going for a minimalist look. Though was tempted with a big stack of hifi separates and some floorstanders. Should all just about fit nicely in the bay window.. 🤣 Pick it up next week, still gotta tell the missus.. she’s only just got over the flying ducks and Union Jack chesterfield. 🤣
  40. Lovely sunset this evening.
  41. A few from Clumber Park this morning - great to see so many Swans (Avian flu decimated the population a few years back)
  42. Recently visited the Helios installation at Fountains Abbey. National TrustHelios at Fountains Abbey | YorkshireHelios at Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire A spectacular sight once the sun had set ☀️ Some judicious use of Magic Eraser in the first image!
  43. Various manuals available to download here:
  44. Perhaps a controversial opinion, but I think people now have far too much faith in their cars. They’ve never experienced a proper accident or felt the car lose control. Certainly, if they had, they wouldn’t drive the way they do on motorways. The amount of times I’ve seen someone in a crossover tearing down the outside lane at 80 when I’ve only got a few car lengths visibility due to the rain, is insane. There should be something like a mandatory skid pan experience after you’ve passed your test.
  45. I have had Michelin Cross Climate+ on the rear for some time and am having Cross Climate 2s on the front this week at Kwik Fit. £159.30 for the pair fully fitted ,16" wheels are great 😁 And a bluetooth speaker to be claimed from Michelin after fitting!
