In the past, what tended to annoy me most about dealing with Kwikfit was, I'd enquire about supplying and fitting brand X model Y - and they'd come back with what they had considered a cheaper/cheapest suitable alternative - but that was not the answer to my question! I like to pay as little as I can for exactly what I'm wanting - not too much for crap - there is a difference.

Could it be the thriving part worn tyre market is fed by 'unrepairable' tyres changed at repair centres? Perhaps I am being over cynical, but I recently took a nearly new tyre in for repair where the puncture was caused by a nail well within the tread pattern (not near an edge at all,) to be told I needed a new tyre. I queried this as the tyre had not been run flat (TPM warning had prevented this,) and was told the angle of entry of the offending nail prevented repair. I asked to see the tyre, and where the entry had been 'opened up' ready for a repair the angle did not seem out of the ordinary to me. Following a discussion with the repair man he agreed to effect a repair - I assume he would not have done so if it was not legal! No problems whatsoever with the tyre since. I also have only guest mode active. Now I tried to set it to full privacy mode and so far the infotainment boots up instantly.

2023 owner here, seems i don't have this problem anymore-i deleted app on my phone and user in car. Since then driving as guest and 0 bugs on it. Been stuck on loading before that almost every 3rd time i start the car. U can hard reset by holding power button to fix it but i dont want to do it 3 times a day.

The clutch disc was a bit rusty in places so think thats why the rivets failed on one side. Probably had been sitting for a long while without being used. His is the same no rust underneath apart from front swing arms which I have two new ones. Its now done 78k and touch wood no major problems. Going to do the timing chain on his due to the age plus a couple of suspension bushes including arms that had a minor advise last MOT. Hes wanting something a bit newer and sporty but I will be keeping the car when he gets something else as its excellent to drive and better for short runs than my diesel octavias. Alasdair

Update on this issue . Water coolant leak . Changed the water pump and car is out of limp mode . Still randomly reving . Suspected pcv valve now . Waiting on parts . I will keep you posted

Hello everyone. Firstly I apologise if I have posted this in the wrong section 😞. My name is Owen I'm 53 and from North west England. I've just become the proud owner of a 2012 Octavia Vrs Dsg petrol . It's done 120k but it's been fastidiously maintained by it's previous keepers . I was given a huge ream of paperwork with the car . It's a hatch and it's blue . Not sure of the exact manufacturer colour name yet . The car is completely standard but I'm planning on a remap for both engine and box . I'm not going too far with it (honest!) I'm looking at revo for the map as I'm told there are switchable maps available. I try to do my own work on my cars but ill health has been making this a struggle recently. As I said apologies if I've posted this incorrectly, perhaps a mod could assist. I did build a teletext decoder in the middle 1970s. It was an electronic magazine project. Had a turning wheel to produce 100, 101 etc. TTL or something integrated circuits to get your N gates or whatever they were called. A lot of soldering. I did get a trip to the Ceefax HQ in Whitecity. The person who use to sit opposite me was the wife of an esteemed in BBC circles an editor, lead guy. The job was to take the long form text of BBC News and convert it into those pages. Think because I'd built that decoder I was privileged enough to go up one Saturday morning, pass security, suspect not so much in those days to be picked up at the door and be taken upstairs to Ceefax HQ. Old Television Centre, Whitecity. I still got it, in the garage racking. The chap you see on searches as the cherished lead of Ceefax at the time. Not so sure of the wife. She was a statistician. Prior job was as a research officer at a university evaluationing BTs telecoms long range forecasting department in Cambridge. That was their hub of planning investment in new telecoms. I gave the chatter to the BT inspection people when they came here after we got full fibre in. In those days they had an experimental fibre link to Martlesham. Prestel was BTs dial up answer to Ceefax but two way. Digital exchanges were coming in. System X. The long range people had put out assorted evaluations of face to face verses teleconferencing.... Now everybody is at it. Ah the good old days. The research department also had their two pennies worth on investment in the British integrated chip industry. Processors were a glint on people's eyes. Pass on what was recommended. Academia had government's ear in those days, so interested parties in business talked the the academics, they talked to government and things were lubricated. Anyhow to answer your question Vag operates with a 5 year planning horizon so after they stop making that model / unit things start to drop off support. Web pages are deleted pretty fast. POI import for mib2 via Vag pages went exactly at 5 years give or take. We dont say this too loudly incase they do the numbers. So best not to highlight this stuff.

I guess these days everyone has to err to the side of caution - in the "old days" the advice would probably been "we can give it a try and see how you get on" and 95% of the time the tyre would be fine and in the 5% of cases we would have shrugged our shoulders and said it was worth a try. Nowadays the 5% would probably end up as a law suit as failing in duty of care. It's the world we live in. I did check Kwik-Fit on line so knew they were comparatively expensive but when the technician phoned to tell me I'd need a new tyre I said I'd be wanting two but at that price Kwik-Fit weren't competitive and really expected a "Let's see what we can do, what prices are you looking at" and an offer in the same ball park as everyone else. But the price was the price so the sale has gone elsewhere. Maybe for Kwik-Fit no sale is better than a sale with a smaller profit because I can't see they would be paying more for tyres than their competitors. And if Kwik-Fit had come back with a revised figure within a few pounds of the Halfords price I'd have got the tyres there - Kwik-Fit is convenient for me and I'm now of an age where getting the absolute lowest price isn't important to me; I just don't want to feel I've paid way over the odds.

A cob is most certainly a big ask, mine is opposite end of that spectrum, only a mini so maybe ! Just wondering if anyone has experience in general towing with the karaq , good or bad? Car is OK but at 80kph iy keeps telling me to go into 6th and as soon as I di it has a s*** attack . So its 80 in 5th with constant reminder to go unto 6th or 6th at 90 kph.

Ur not supposed to take anything out of the mib2 folder. Just copy, once extracted, all the folders as is, including the mib1 folder plus the other files. The root folder is meant to have 2 folders (mib1 and mib2) and 1 file (metainfo2.txt). If anything is missing from the extract, the checksum will b incorrect and the update will never b successful.

I currently have a 2024 skoda octavia select 2l diesel car and use it for towing a small horse box but am thinking on moving to a skoda caraq select 2l diesel , I know they are same specs but is the caraq any better for towing considering its a suv ?

Welcome to the forum. I understand that it's not a good idea to leave anything permanently plugged into the OBD port. OBD port power is sourced from the vehicle battery - so battery will be affected. Even very small unexpected current draws are capable of upsetting the smart alternator charging system.

It has taken some time to get around to actually swapping the parts however I have just successfully replaced the once gloss black (but when I got the car already quite scratched) trim pieces to the "carbon" ones. 5E4 853 190 A YI2 -> 5E4 853 190 A 9NL (small piece) 5E4 853 192 C YI2 -> 5E4 853 192 C 9NL (big piece) (old part number -> new part number) As you can see from the above, the A & C are indeed revision numbers, the YI2 and 9NL are represent the finish. YI2 being gloss black, 9NL being the carbon-look finish and there's also JO8 which is the haptic squares grey one. In one of my previous screenshots you will find more options, however I have not seen any of them for sale (I bought the only 9NL I could find in my country at parts traders, and have not seen the gloss black for sale once). They could be available through a Skoda dealer. Removal was quite stressful however also quite doable in the end, I would really recommend being thorough and taking your time if you'd like to do the same. The small strip has two clips while the bigger one had 8 (I think). See the pictures to get an idea, the arrows point to the clips. I used plastic trim removal tools and a cloth to not damage the quite soft plastic below the strips and worked on the bottom along their length to loosen the clips. (DO NOT try to insert the trim piece from the direction of the arrows!!!). Once they go, they'll either click out, at which point I am always scared they'd break, or be half loose. Once the whole piece is loosened, go around and again and try to pull of the piece. Be careful to not bend it too much and be cautious of where you put the trim removal tools to aim besides the tabs. The connectors for the leds are pretty self explanatory. Installation is even more simple, plug in the led connectors and align the trim piece. Push in, check it's attached fully everywhere, job done. I am not a professional, this information can be used as reference however as always at your own risk.

Maybe someone can share their experience with the proper way to overwrite the latest version? Or is it possible to downgrade first and then perform the update again?

As far I'm aware none of the car manufacturers advertising TMC as part of navigation system when you add it to your car while placing order, instead they offer free trial of online services which are paid after free trial period.
