Try a factory reset of the infotainment & it should prompt you to set up from scratch. It's a PITA though as you'll lose all your setting, including radio stations & stored destinations in the SatNav. As for the secret solution sent to a dealer, I went through this recently for a different issue & the "fix" didn't work. At least it was covered by warranty. I wouldn't entertain writing the blank cheque being suggested to you.

Hi everyone! I’m new here, and following this thread with interest. My late-2024 1.5 MHEV (non-DCC) has the same hollow knocking noise. After numerous visits with various attempts to resolve the issue (including changing the top mounts and applying copious amounts of grease to the potential problem areas), the Skoda workshop replaced my steering rack. Like everyone here, the issue was only temporarily resolved, with the knocking sound returning after 2 weeks. Skoda is now saying that this is a ‘normal operational noise’. The Skoda dealership where I’m based (Singapore) is directly owned by the Volkswagen Group. I’d have expected much better technical competence and ability to rectify faults, but that is not the case at all!

For some reason the infotainment system started asking for a pin number. I couldn’t remember it and after 3 attempts I got locked out. Now I get the message no primary user. After trying numerous times to become primary user and following numerous hints on the internet I am no further forward. Every time I start the car I get an email saying that Skoda Connect services are deactivated as the vehicle is in private mode. Even though It is actually set to share my position. I contacted Skoda and was told that they have an update to solve the problems if I book the car into the dealer and let them know who the dealer is they will send an update to that dealer to sort out the problem. I visited the dealer to ask how much this would cost and was told that they would charge an initial Diagnostic charge of £185 plus a charge per hour for doing the update. As they don’t know how long the update would take they couldn’t give me a final cost. I have complained that the cost is extortionate to correct a problem with poorly written software that 100s of people all over the world are complaining about. I am hoping that the OTA update 0334 might solve the problems but there are conflicting reports on whether you only get the update if the car has a primary user registered. I am currently running version 0332.Any advice please.

If the ignition switch was fully switching off, I think it a little unlikely that an earth (mass) cable issue would be the cause. I suppose a welded-closed relay contact could be the cause if the ignition switch tests out as Ok - but I'd be testing that switch first.

DSG is due in the next 5,000-10,000 miles apparently. He says the cambelt hasn't been done and based on Skoda official guidance shouldn't be done until 120,000-130,000. This sounded fishy to me. Is that the case? It's 8 years old so should surely have had at least one cambelt change by now? Any experts that could recommend what I do would be hugely appreciated.

My car now booked to Caffyns in Tunbridge Wells on 29th October, for diagnosis. It is under warranty, so why not?

I keep receiving notices that updates are available, but only when driving and usually within about half mile of home. However, the road is a busy one and there are no areas where you can pull off other than field gateways. When I get home and park the car with the ignition on or engine running, more or less opposite where the router is in the house, I don't get any notices! I can have these updates installed by a dealer, but the last time I did this it cost £145! Any advice to solve these problems would be appreciated.

Might be sticking turbo veins. I think they are variable on yours. On my Octavia no flashing coil light but would go into limp mode randomly especially if accelerating hard in 2nd - 4th gear and clear itself after restart. It wasnt a full limp mode just down about 30% on power. No codes stored. I first thought it was veins sticking but I manually operated wastegate first and discovered it was sticking slightly at a certain point. I lubricated and kept manually operating it till it was smooth again and no more limp modes. As there are no codes it might be worth a look at the actuator Alasdair

Skoda UK told me to go to the Motor Ombudsman which is a different organisation I believe. I have no finance on my car so maybe different rules apply. They made no offer to pay for an engineer, in fact they made no offer to contribute for the dealer to exchange the shocks at warranty rates, the dealer had expected they would offer up half the cost. The engineers cost will be on me if I go ahead. Did you use a local one or someone part of a UK group?

& there can be a 'Low Oil Pressure' (red oil can) warning before you get a 'Oil level low' with some VW Group / Skoda engines. Nice sweeping roads and spirited driving.

Skoda Ireland have now stopped fitting new steering racks until a new part is available. We got 2 new fitted. Made noise after a few weeks each time. Pushed harder they gave us a letter saying basically to wait until new part comes along and they will fit it.

Does not matter. There are two warnings - first one is "check the oil level". Usually still about 4 liters of oil in engine block. Second one is "oil level low" or similar. This is something that needs to be addressed to asap. P.S. I use VW longlife 0W 30.

Sorry to hear that. Skoda seem to like their "characteristics", it seems to be a convenient cop out for their design flaws. Their suggestion to me was to go to the Motor Ombudsman which would require an independent engineers report. Was that easy to arrange and was it expensive? Maybe we could approach the Ombudsman as a group. I have written to one of the journalists at What Car to ask if they have had reports from others and whether any of their reviewers have found similar.

The Wind Turbines all around Scotland & also are up in Beauty Spots and so are Pylons like from Beauly to the South and East. (within 1 mile of the Fasned planned site) Many turbines paid to not generate or not to provide electricity to that region. Not enough Battery Storage to take the energy or Hydrogen production plants. The Sub Stations are being blocked in planning and some are started to be built but not being allowed to be extended and are not up and running. NIMBY,s.

4/ Yes battery swaps The above does sound feasible until you actually stop and think outside the box a bit. 1/ How large would the solar array need to be to top up storage batteries again after a couple of trucks have been recharged? The trucks will not know if the station has sufficient reserves to provide them with a charger, nor will the trucker know how long it has been since the last truck left the charger. 2/ Wind turbines are going to extremely popular and highly desirable in urban locations or beauty spots I don't think. 3/ EV stations may currently be idle for up to 88% of the time in some locations only (there is a large Tesla one near me and everytime I go past it, it always looks like all chargers are in use). As EVs become the more dominant type of motive power, that figure alters rapidly, especially if those who can't charge at home switch to EV power. 4/ Yes, trucks have battery swapping technology, which makes sense as it would keep them where they belong, on the road delivering the goods, but it still means that the hub still demands a huge grid connection so those batteries will be recharged ready for the next truck to roll in, requiring a fresh set of batteries.

No, but the car was in "not so professional" car workshop. I needed to bring it back since the speed indicator was not working after leaving the workshop, the guy there remove the cover at the bottom and went with his hand to behind the speed indicator to reconnect the cable and probably moved something. Since there are 3 things showing this, could be that he remove one mass contact (ground)?

The Wheels and Tyres are 'Unsprung weight'. How much lighter will the narrower tyres be? It will depend on what is fitted, type, tread depth, reinforced sidewalls or not. Plenty have changed to that size, maybe for Winter Tyres. Lots of threads on this forum.

2017, a wish and a bl00dy dream... Nothing but delay and bluster and money available and not spent wisely if even spent on equipment. Plenty spent on Professional Fees and Meetings and planning and contracts. Not on actual equipment and where there is chargers they are 50 kW max and not fit for purpose within a decade.

I am watching this with interest to see just how long this takes to get opened. It will be one of Scotlands most important charging places on the totally hopeless 'Electric A9 Highway' as far as Ultra Rapid charging. Within sight of the many many wind turbines just north of this. & next to the Upgraded Pylons & Transmission route North South. As to this article. Not a MOTORWAY as is obvious by the name A9 not M9.

Has anyone ever put a different size of tires on their car? I currently have 205/55 R16 tires. I want to switch to 195/60 R16 tires to reduce the load on the car's suspension and increase clearance.
