  1. Hi all, I've been kicking this around for a while, forgot to update you. 🤔. TL;DR; I'm aiming to offset our communities impact on the planet at https://ecologi.com/briskoda To that end, I personally do stuff, but I'm looking at the community, our impact, principally in delivering the community to you. I invite you to read on for yourself too. I had a few options, like a co2 neutral data center etc... That maywell happen when I can find one I think is a good match. In the short term though, I'm planting trees and buying co2 offset on behalf the forum. Which is essentially guesstimating how many tonnes of CO2 we burn for the servers/laptops to provide the forum. I've hooked up with Ecologi , if you signup to offset your personal CO2/trees, the planet gets bonus trees. CO2 The co2 is fairly easy, I'm covering it in excess this year. I'm also lumping in any miles I do for briskoda, which is nada so far this year. The assumption for our servers/network is roughly 430kWh per month in electricity. There is more in the whole chain, but it's almost impossible to calculate. This is about 754 miles driving for an average family car, or 300 ish kgs of CO2. I can only offset in tonnes, and the minimum is two tonnes. So this is easy, we're offsetting 2 tonnes per month. This I believe covers the pico/milliseconds of energy use over the millions of devices brisky data passes over to reach your eyes. Trees Trees, quite a few need to be planted for all the paper we've all used over the years. So inline with the overall goal of 1%, this roughly equates to 100 trees on top of the CO2 offset per month. Your own tree Each month from April 2021 we'll 'gift' a tree to a member. These are trees in the uk, with a what three word reference. You can save that and watch it grow from space I guess... in theory you can even go and give it a hug. Each month from the contributors to this topic/purchasers of tree clumps via our shop, all become eligible for each month. So buy once, your in the pot till I get bored, or the whole planet is a forest, in which case I'll be long gone, and so will you, mother nature 1, human 0. Month Winner April 2021 TBD The Future? There are some personal goals, I have quite a polluting hobby, driving lots of miles to climb a bit of rock. I'll be covering those of personally. Looking forwards for the community, there is much I think I can and we can do. I'm going to sit down one day and try to figure out the total since 2002... bit of fag packet maths required and it will have to be an overestimation too, especially for the miles driven for briskoda fun and business. So here's where your input comes in , thanks for reading this far too. Before I go much further, any other suggestions or schemes, maybe closer to home? I did email a few uk projects but no response, or not deep enough pockets, which brought my sad face on. If you want to add a tree or too, you can. Either under your own account, or add to the briskoda plantation/co2. : https://ecologi.com/briskoda and finally, they do have a uk tree planting scheme... which is what I was waiting for, although a tree is a tree. Thoughts? Each month I' also purchasing a UK tree planting slot. These are given initially to tree planters and other special awards. When exhausted or a spare slot, they will be awarded to a random member of freedom each month. 2. only saw one other mk1 vRS the whole weekend.. must be getting rare , we saw about 10 teslas for example! Passes a milestone.... still running well.
  3. Chaps, thanks you, an excellent start. IIRC data center, the internet, as a whole is more co2 than international air travel. But I don't see anyone giving up cat videos or faceache before a long haul flight to barbados. So it is a problem, in my mind. There are places like Iceland where it's co2 Neutral power. Except a lot of the capacity is gobble up by crypto miners, so you can have a rubbish facility for quite a few pennies. There are a number in the UK who are at least going in the right direction. Our present hoost isn't, but acknowledges they do need to do better. I have a few pages of notes for a possible more, but it needs to be for all the right reasons etc The uk plantation, costs a bit more, 3.40 per tree! You do get a geocode location so you can look at it from space! Plus a few other goodies like helping out if you want... I'll find out more. The non uk, you can plant far more per £... I got waylaid tonight by email updates, a rash of spam complaints and bad emails. I guess after 18years the odd very old topic gets replied to and it's a slew of duff accounts to sort out. More, tomorrow at least now, possibly friday. That's the day I spend on the site now, or try to.
  4. You may struggle with much more than 40mpg on motorway journeys if you are heavy with the right foot and do 70mph. I've done a few long runs, 70mph most of the way and depending on how hilly it is, got between 42 and 46mpg. But that was making an effort to see what it did. I've also got over 50mpg at 50mph However the reality is, with anything resembling traffic, hills, the odd stretch when you take advantage of finally getting a clear road etc, you are likely to be high 30s. I only do 10miles to work, of which about 6 is motoway, albeit the M27 and I probably get 29-35 depending on the time of year. Well, I now get 10000000mpg as my commute involves me walking into my study and not starting the engine as I am WFH.
  5. Wouldnt worry about the phone holder ,first thing i took out of mine its rubbish and modern phones are mostly too big for it anyhoo .
  6. Step 4 - VCDS coding: Enter control module CAN Gateway, click Installation List and check the box for 55 Headlight Range. This will tell the car you have level sensors and a range control module installed. Enter control module Cent. Electrics, go to byte 14 and check bit 4 "Bi-xenon headlights (without shutter) installed". If you don't see this checkbox in your VCDS (it wasn't there for me), do it manually in the binary coding by changing the fifth digit from the right from a 0 to a 1 Enter control module Headlight Range, click on Coding, enter 1507610 and click Go. This should automatically re-code the AFS slaves too. Go to Basic Setting, select Group 01 and click Go. Align the headlights using the manual adjustment screws on top of each headlamp unit. Check for any stored fault codes (there shouldn't be any) and clear if so. Once there are no fault codes left, exit VCDS and cycle the ignition. You are now ready to test if everything works. Step 5 - testing: Every time you start the engine, the headlight motors will perform a self-test routine where the vertical motors will go to their lowest level, the horizontal motors will go to their farthest outwards and back in, and then the vertical motors will return to the correct height. You should also have some new options in maxidot: Under "Assistants" there will be an option to turn Bend Lighting on and off Under "Setup" and then "Lights & Vision" there will be an option to turn Travel Mode on and off. Go for a drive! Once moving, you should notice the headlights will move laterally with the steering. Step 6 - bonus round if you have auto wipers! Try changing the Headlight Range coding to 1311190 - this should unlock AFS II functionality, which the mk2 Octavia was never sold with in the UK. You will need to perform the Basic Setting again after changing the coding! With AFS II, you should also notice that at speeds under ~30mph, the offside headlight will be quite low and pointing quite far outwards. Once you go over ~30mph, you will see it move back towards the centre and slightly upwards. This is the AFS II transitioning from "city light" to "country light". The beam shape will also change slightly at higher speeds (such as on the motorway) where the level of both lights will adjust slightly upwards to extend the range of the lights. There is also a different beam shape that will activate when the rain sensor detects rain. Congratulations - you now have completely safe and legal retrofitted xenon headlights which will pass MOT! Ps. massive thanks to @langers2k for the immense amount of help he gave me at almost every step of the way, including doing the adaptations to my wiring loom as I am colourblind and had trouble with it! I'm certain I would not have been successful with this conversion without all of his advice
  7. Kia ora koutou (Hi everyone) New [used] Skoda Superb owner from Aotearoa NZ. The old 2005 Mazda 6 wagon got rear-ended. Very sad to write it off as it was a perfectly good runabout but the panel-beating wasn't worth the insurance. 🙁 That said getting in a newer car & realising how much everything has moved on in the last decade - WOW! 😎 New motor is a 2016 Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI Sedan; 75,000km on the clock. Massively impressed with the performance, handling & SPACE! - I'm a 6'4" yeti & even with the drivers seat set for me there's still room for me to get a full 2" of space between my knees & the front seat when I sit in the back. And I swear the boot in our "sedan" is actually marginally bigger the the old Maz wagon! Can just fit my pushbike in (with the wheels removed) without having to put the seats down. I'll admit I'm a little anxious about some things I've read about the DSG transmissions, but we're pretty smooth & relaxed drivers so hoping that should all be fine... With the state of the world at the moment a few quintessential Kiwi road trips to explore the country look much preferable to the overseas holidays of previous years, even more so with a very comfy car to enjoy them in. Looking forward to enjoying this car for the next 10 years or so. Ngā mihi mahana, Hamish
  8. The hard plastic loop of the PCV pipework is just a push-fit into the rubber couplers at each end, so will move in/out without huge effort. If it was loose enough to leak, I think you'd hear hissing when wiggling it about. Add a cable-tie or two to snug it down if it seems too loose? Brake servo hose is looking unusually intact!
  9. My car has black trim around the windows, I'll do a trial fit, and if they look naff, it's only a few quid lost.
  10. I doubt the sensor is 'too slow' but for sure it gets contaminated or it is out of specifications. The MAP is mounted on the intake manifold. Any device mounted on the intake manifold using a gasket or the gasket of the intake manifold itself should be checked for leaks or better replaced.
  11. Father in law's karoq has them. Looks good on the light grey colour. I think it would look best without the chrome trim around the windows.
  12. It says it in the PDF of "Suggested Services Year by Year" Open the link and look at it yourself, it's there in a horrible green and white. The column '6 years or 60,000 miles' is the one where you'll see 'Air Filter' for £45.
  13. As @Roottoot says, the suggestion from Skoda is actually 4yr/40k. Skoda now publish a PDF they call "Suggested Services Year by Year", covering generic suggested service schedules for cars older than 3 years https://az749841.vo.msecnd.net/sitesengb/alv1/a06b23b4-1cad-431f-8a9e-9a845954d0e2/NationalPriceServicing.1ca5db45f2690fccdbcc4ad8cae7a857.pdf https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/servicing-maintenance-fixed-price
  14. They seem to be disappearing at a rate of about 300 a year with just 1500 on the road now according to how many left. It'll worth something soon. I'm keeping mine until just before they shoot up in price when I'll sell it for next to nothing then quickly regret it. Its a speciallity of mine!
  15. Don't think it is a simple process. I took my car back to the garage to have it done and they informed me that they had erased the necessary software on their computer, ready to download some new updated software from VW, before the lights could be aligned. There was a delay in getting this software from VW. Had to go back the next day when their VW download was complete and even then it took around an hour. Lights perfect now thank goodness.
  16. Hi Great Yeti, Yes I'd seen those pages, but hadn't noticed the change to the Scala KESSY key. I wonder if that will be carried over to the other models too? There's no mention of it doing so. I've already flagged to my sales guy that I want 360 Vision added (and had asked about it at the time of my order, complaining that it was on the Kodiaq and Ateca but not the Karoq) - now we're just waiting for Skoda UK to publish the price for it. I've seen the updated Skoda France pricelist with it in, so am expecting it to add around £500 to my order. Chris
  17. That's the PCV valve, no EGR on a BMD.
  18. Heavy right foot and too many short trips, on a run for a week away in the UK or long weekend etc it is a lot better, best tank I've had was 40MPG. My one was an ex-demonstrator and they had opted for a few extras, so I've got the winter pack, heated rear seats, factory fit towbar, canton and DCC.
  19. No, the thing to do is just flex that shiny bit of pipe upwards, if it's leaking at the same point, you'll hear a pronounced hiss of air entry, and the engine will stutter/bog down. I think the trouble is, due to the design of the joint, oily stuff will sit at the bottom of that rubbery coupler piece all the time, gradually softening and rotting it out. Then with a bit of engine vibration, it just cracks through and starts to leak.
  20. Both second hand from eBay, separate listings about 6 weeks apart. The mk2 fl xenon headlights are stupidly rare - only the L&K had them as standard, and it was a £650 optional extra on most other spec which not a lot of people apparently went for. I had a saved search set up in eBay since last year and until about May 2020, I had only seen a single one get listed in the previous 6 months and it sold before I was serious about doing this project. I was happy to pay up to £200 per light providing they were in very good condition and had all of the bulbs and control gear present. There was no way I was going to faff around buying the xenon ballast and AFS module etc separately, and a pair of decent D1S bulbs is £120! I was very lucky that I managed to get two in excellent condition and for a decent price (£190 and £170). I also got the AFS master from eBay for £17 as it was listed by a breaker as "other control unit" since they didn't seem to know what it was. The headlights brand new from Skoda are over £500 each and I think the AFS master is around £140.
  21. Was the Sat Nav card present as mentioned earlier as you require a Skoda one as the SID of the card is the Licence for Sat Nav. As far as I'm aware the mobile holder insert was an extra accessory anyway. Glad that you've found one that you like, it would be worth checking out the various threads on the Sunroof, just so that you are aware how to keep the drains clear etc.
  22. Good to hear you've found something you liked. As I think I mentioned in one of your previous threads - these cars wear their mileage very well, it's no surprise the car still feels like new - it will probably still feel as good as new in another 2 years time with another 20k on it. The missing bits are all easily replaceable and the only one i'd be particularly fussy on is the wheel wrench, which they're sorting for you anyway.
  23. It's more complicated because it's also a more sophisticated option with better control over the ECU than the rest of the tuning boxes, resulting in a more OEM power delivery with better boost and AFR curves, which is why it's considered the top of tuning boxes, comparable even to a full remap. It's also got more features than just providing extra bhp, (remote logging, boost by gear, meth controller, custom map setup), a huge client database all over the world that has allowed them to idnetify engine/gearbox issues before even some tuners themselves, and a great support from BMS that's really knowledgeable on these engines. I know people will say "i had my DTUK/Racechip/whatever box on for years and it was great" which in most cases translates to "i installed it - car felt faster - it hasn't blown up" but i wonder how many are really aware of how these ECUs work on making power, let alone having logged their cars to verify data looks safe and within factory tolerances. And yes even a Jb4 doesn't have the full access to operating parameters a remap has but it's the closest thing to it in the form of a removable box.
  24. Fantastic! Thanks so much for the quick response!
  25. My Golf R did this, it was remedied by getting a replacement switch panel.
  26. nice one. i may add a few trees to the brisky forest. when its matured a bit, you can go and put some retro stickers on some trees, and install a "Brisky Cyclists" off road cycle track
  27. Is this of any help?:

Just started downloading the CW25 2020 update from the Portal Speedtest says I'm capable of 100MB/s download speeds (ISP Plan limit with Fibre & Ethernet hardwired to the desktop) Download is going at around 600kB/s... 😱 [What's going on at your end, Skoda??] 1GB down so far, only 4 to go... Ngaa mihi Hamish
  29. I'm sorry I have zero knowledge of what OBDeleven can and can't do as I use VCDS.
  30. Good day to you all. I thought I'd share an update on my ownership of this brilliantly tarnished Kodiaq. Let me say up front I do really really feel fondness for Keri the Kodiaq. She's a great daily with an impressive list of attributes. She flew through her first MoT on Monday with only an advisory on front brake pads at 80% wear. I'll do those thank you very much Mr Skoda main dealer ha! My glasses holder has received another replacement. I think that's 4 now. But whilst the car was in for attention I highlighted a loose drivers interior handle. An investigation revealed a fracture to the plastic fitting through which the upper retaining bolt locates. And not covered under warranty as its wear and tear. That'll be £341 + vat please I was invited to pay. I'd read a few reports of dodgy door handles on various forums...breaking, squeaking, loose etc etc. So undertook some research. Seems that a number of panels have been replaced owing to poor build quality. Some folk having all 4 replaced under warranty. I contacted Skoda UK who acknowledged the issue and asked me to take the car to a different dealer for review. I'm happy to do that, but I have given my supplying dealer an opportunity to reconsider its position. I'll update this thread but would love to hear of anyone else suffering the same fate. I've added a picture, the plastic is 15mm thick and a weak spot if ever I've seen one.
  31. Have fitted both Pagid and Brembo from ECP and both have shown signs of surface rust so would avoid those if that is an issue.
  32. Nice idea. Had never really though of it as really having any impact at all. Made a small donation and will follow this to see what other ideas crop up.
  33. I'll be sure to post a video of me belting along to something, stutter free (the HU, no guarantees for me). 🤣
  34. I appreciate why you've got 2 SIMs but I seem to recall that when I set up a default one, my 2 SIM problem went away. It won't hurt to try will it?
  35. I got a 1.0TSI Scala as a replacement for my Superb while it's in the workshop. As mentioned the lane assist is a "killer" feature. In my small country lanes i has already tried to steer me into oncoming traffic twice, and i have only driven 100km so far. It's a pain to turn it off all the time because whenever i forgot to do so the car just tries to set me up for heads on collision. Another fun feature is this SOS thing. the roads here are bad, bumps and bangs happen. But somehow Scala decides that they are enough to warrant a big SOS message. Had happened this twice now without any excessive effort, just more or less normal roads for my area. This 1.0TSI engine is as bad as i expected, compared to the 1.5TSI i see no reason why it should exist. Fuel consumption is the same as it is on Superb, while the car is a lot smaller. Performance however is not comparable at all. Scala is not a bad car, but coming from Superb the difference is big, it just feels like a cheap small car, given the option i would not bother with it and just go for a lower spec Octavia or Superb. The Superb i'm comparing it to is not an LK, but the cheapest base model that is possible to buy, 1.5TSI manual, with ACC option, rest of it is base model, and it still a lot more of a car than the Scala i'm stuck with.
  36. Change the oil and filter every 10k and the engine will outlive every thing else on the car. My family put 190k on a mk1 1.9 sdi and the engine was fine when we sold on. This engine was the taxi drivers favourite in the octavia before euro 5 regs often reaching 250 to 300k.
  37. All DRL's should dim when headlights are switched on - clue is in the name, they are daytime running lights and are simply too bright for night use at full power. I think they drop by about a third once headlights come on.

So, having now put a few miles on the new tyres I can report they are certainly an improvement over the Avons, not that they were ever bad. In the dry they just inspire a little more confidence but in the wet they're a big improvement with more of a feeling that they're providing much better grip on corners. It may be down to to tread depth but I certainly feel happier. On an unconnected note, I'm starting to think about a new exhaust. I plan on keeping this at least 3 more years and it's still on the original system but it's on it's last legs from the cat back. I don't want much more noise and am not looking for more performance (it would be a bonus tho') but I'm thinking of a stainless steel upgrade. Ideally I'd like to keep the original tail trim to keep it looking standard so might have a look at a longlife from Tony Banks in Leeds as I've heard good things and hopefully they could do something. Any other recommendations around the Sheffield area would be welcome.

I had a similar rattle on occasion and had checked a number of things. Having read this I dropped the seats today without anything in the boot and the car was silent. Thanks for your input, it pays to read through these posts. Will put some tape on the hooks later. Thanks again👍

Are we talking a small amount? If so, then I think it's normal. The mirror bases have slightly different angles so if both motors move the same amount, the drivers one won't close quite as much if I remember correctly.
  41. New wheels landed today. Superb Iv Se Tech estate. Replaces my superb sport line - glad to be rid the ride and wheels where awful on the roads up here.
  42. Definitely get the cambelt and water pump changed at 5 years unless you like to gamble on £5k for a new engine! Brake fluid recommend change every 2-3 years and it's an age thing not related to mileage. Fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs water from atmosphere to the detriment of braking components and performance of the fluid. Not an expensive job so worth doing for peace of mind.
  43. Later Yeti Cam belts including yours are changed at 5 years regardless of mileage. They would probably last the life of the car and some are now being fitted like that, but would you take the chance? Edit: This shows costs at a VAG independent near me, I have used them for cam belt changes. https://lvsag.co.uk/pricing/
  44. 2020 Superb Combi Sportline, 1.5 TSI ACT owner checking in!
  45. USB C may well be the latest incarnation but it does have benefits.
  46. If they say its caused by the clutch being worn why are they quoting to strip the gearbox down?
