The issue as I see it with these "smart anythings", is that drivers can easily get distracted from driving, due to having to faff around trying to select the correct function to change the zoom on the map/change it back to lower the volume etc. which could lead to the vehicle drifting lanes, rear-ending someone. The designers think they're being smart by introducing MFD like these dials when, in fact, they're being dim; anything that distracts the driver for more than a second or so to make an adjustment is "simply stupid".
  4. A few from yesterday's visit to both Packwood House and Baddesley Clinton.............
  5. Currently got 15% off using 9TO5BTW15. For anybody that wants one.
  6. sometimes we have to accept that time does not exist in enough quantity to fulfill all our desires... wait until you have kids and free time becomes a distant memory of a past life time
  7. Yep I did, I had a phone call coming in and just wanted to post it, so I could concentrate on the call, it was an important one.
  8. Omg what a fail. Read superb instead. Apologies!
  9. 10.2p per kWh here on thelast bill but it was down at 9p the month before. The joys of solar and home battery storage. We are all electric with an ASHP so usage goes up in the winter but it still costs less than gas used to cost us because of Intelligent Octopus
  10. Thanks man Not heard from you in a bit.
  11. Thanks all You were right. Camshaft was gone Got mechanic to swap it out as between work and kids I don't have any spare time!!! Got a new timing belt fitted. So good for another 100,000km
  12. No, but star-stop wasn't working...battery seems fine now .
  13. I don't blame you for getting the garage to do it, you really do need a proper car lift and good lighting to tackle the crank sensor, even then it basically has to be done blind.

Goodbye old good gear stick 🙄
  15. Well, consider you may be spending money for no reason here as your OBDeleven you said is now playing up and is displaying "Device is not authorized" so it might be that the device has been lying to you about the misfiring, you did say before that you were getting some odd results with the claimed misfiring apparently jumping around various cylinders. Is the car currently drivable or not? If it is, and appears to be running OK, it might pay to book in at your garage as the 4th Sept is only next Monday so you could maybe drive it till then? Its your call at the end of the day. What you do is a risk either way.
  16. My son and daughter in law recently had low speed front end shunts and both their cars were deemed written off. In both cases just asked for a photo of the damage and immediately wrote off with offer being made by text with a link to accept the offer. No inspection just straight to scrapyard. I think some companies don't want the hassle of repairing anymore or even employing/paying loss assesors.

Agreed. Absolute disaster IMO. Imagine kids in the passenger seat having a field day turning it and changing 6 different settings.
  18. Just under 19p per kWh as a combined average but it is the just over 100 kWh at 40p per kWh that adds much to my bill, the 200 kWh at 7.5kWh is very nice and cheap so the bill is £44 for the day time and only £15 for the night ie working out 50p for an average night period and I charge about ten days a month but my charger is only 3.6 kW but the 14 kwh give me over 50 miles added range so happy with that. It is the over 2000 kwh of gas usage in mid winter that adds up but I suppose I will see gas go below 7p a kwh in October so happy days. Got gas hob as well as gas central heating. It is cheaper than lecky, or will be this winter, but it is quite dirty of course, even with a new 94% efficient boiler. Heat pump would only be worth it for me as a partial home fit I am thinking, was even looking at the ECOFLOW WAVE 2. Solar I want to get a solar tracking array for the garden, six panel or bigger, than tracks the sun. I can then take both the portable heat pump and solar tracking array to my small holding I plan to get up in the Welsh mountains when UK society breaks down.
  19. The kits being referred to tend to be an unpopulated connector plus an ample supply of wires with appropriate pins pre-crimped to one end, ready to be just pushed into the connector housing. Typically then you'll get a supply of inline/butt crimps to make the other end's connection to the existing loom. This listing lacks the inline/butt crimps but shows the general idea. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394789687716

6 functions for one (central) dial is a joke. Rather than keep your eyes on the road, you will keep pressing and checking if you got the right function. Start/stop gone, windscreen heating gone, and what has happened to VC?
  21. It is a Journalist running a story feed to them by a Spin Doctor from a Government Department or the Met Police. All good stuff. They just need to get on with addressing Knife Crime, Moped robberies and the theft of Moped, Motorbikes & Push Bikes /e-Bikes. The Home Secretary are going to have the Police taking action on all crimes. Once they weed out all corrupt Police Officers they will have lots of available officers, or maybe quite a lot less.
  22. I understand the pros and cons of direct v indirect, but I have always found indirect adequate for my personal need. Luckily I have never as a sudden deflation of a flat in the morning. One issue with indirect TPMS is that, on some cars, the system will only tell you that a tyre is underinflated, but not which one. I have only had one occurrence on our Karoq, and that told me which tyre needed attention. I assume that Skoda software is better than other brands, even though it should be easy to program a system to do this. Saves checking all tyres.

    What makes you question it?
  24. Is the motor gone or is it jammed, the mec sticks. You can pull it apart and clean it.
  25. I guess the alpin unit will work but it is as slow as hell...
  26. Glad that it has solved your problems, hopefully that's should be the end of hope problems. There are several more downloads to come I've had 4 so far, all have been minor and no ill effects.

The following method is the only way I could get it to work on my 2018 Karoq 1) Delete all data on a 32GB or 64GB SD card, format card to MS-DOS (FAT 32). Name the card UNTITLED. 2) Unzip the downloaded file (it can take a while) and double-click the unzipped Folder. 3) Select all the contents (two folders and a text file) and drag all three items onto the just-formatted empty SD card. 4) Launch the free Mac app “CleanMyDrive2” (or another similar app) to remove Mac-specific invisible files from the SD card. 5) Insert the card into one of the SD slots of the Karoq's infotainment system in the glovebox. 6) On the Navigation screen, on the bottom row, press "Settings" > “Version Info“ > "Update (SD/USB)“. The car engine does not need to be running, and if the ignition shuts off before the update finishes, just press the engine ‘start’ button once and repeat the above procedure from Step 6. The Update Progress Bar will resume where it left off so you don’t have to start updating from scratch. 7) Power everything down and remove the SD card. Kev
  28. Which is why whenever you see any films or documentaries, all the robots always start painting from inside the open doors, or from inside boot etc. Just in case there is tiny bit of previous colour paint also sprayed, bits that will be covered up or not show
  29. A junction down the North Circular was where the riot and looting took place about 12 years ago. This whole area always felt very dodgy. But there's a big Tesco nearby with a little foot traffic along the road, the charging area are very well lit and other cars come and go. The retail park entrance also had an occupied security car. In early days, I've charged in more dodgy feeling location without lighting, on a single rapid, completely alone. 😨 I don't follow football, but I suspect wearing rival football shirt might be paint a target on one's back.
  30. First off all I want to thank Mr. @TheWandererand other people on this forum for helping us and providing instructions + data. Infotainment rebooting has been pain in a$$ for me and my Octavia RS 2023 245 (2 months old). Yesterday I was on 1898 software, flashed it successfully to 1941. After 2 Ota updates, I can confirm everything is fine for now. Anyone else noticed improvements in rear camera quality?
  31. I really don't like that. Where's my driving mode button? More importantly to me at least, where's the auto park button? Where's the sunroof buttons? Opening the blind, raising the sunroof or opeining it fully or partially is so damned easy with the current multi function physical button - looks like they've replaced it with a slider control. Had a brief look at the opposition a few weeks ago as my car is coming up to 3yr and wanted to see my options b4 extending the service plan. I couldn't find a single car that could touch my MY20 Kodiaq. In fact I'd even have to compromise with the current MY23 Kodiaq. Looking at those photos, the interior is a step backward from the car I currently own. The central armrest doesn't look to be height adjustable nor does it go as far forward as the current one. We've also lost the dual glovebox - something that's unique to the Kodiaq and something I find really useful. Are the light controls any better than they are now? Current VAG light controls are so bloody easy to operate, the switch today has been in existance which seems like forever. The change looks like another step backwards IMO What's positive about it compared to the current car? The infotainment screen is bigger and... I'm struggling folks.
  32. A couple of suggestions to try before chasing possible ghosts in the various CAN, LIN & other buses: If you have not done it recently, (last 4 years, or possibly less if car has start/stop), get and replace it with a new good quality battery (AGM needed for start/stop) - I've had similar problems in the past which were cleared up with a new battery. Also, maybe fully disconnect the dash cam and tow bar modifications, temporarily to aid diagnosing your fault On top of the 2 suggestions above. I'd invest in a HEX -V2 or-NET device and get associated VCDS installed - super useful for diagnosing issues and all sorts of other tweaks become possible. Good luck and let us know how you get on please 🙂
  33. Kid gone to sleep, traffic looks to be clearing, so I went for a drive and charge. 50% to 96%, received about 35 kWh. Free is indeed very nice. This new Tottenham rapid was only about 1/3 in use with cars come and go, despite being free for today. I was planning to charge to 80%, but at around 70%, I fired up new Vampire Survivors game in the car and lost track of time.
  34. I saw a now deleted post on Twitter this morning. A chap so annoyed that he was having to sell his classic Citröen DS because of ULEZ. He deleted it after being told by many people that as it's from the 1960s and therefore over forty years old and ULEZ exempt. How many more Muppets haven't bothered to check the facts before whinging online about it.
  35. I know exactly what you mean... This video, from around 23.43, gives a good run through of Karoq wipers, as well as all other main controls, but I don't think you can adjust the rear wipers. https://youtu.be/B-9Xx4KwAG0?feature=shared&t=1423

Just saying.... I updated maps on our 2018 Superb Columbus unit last time using a 2.5" portable HDD. Can't remember it was FAT32 or NTFS formatted. It was a hell of a lot faster to unzip/copy and also when updating the Columbus. Far less faffing about than using an SD card.
  37. 1 point
If it is a Columbus then any formatted 64 GB SD card should work , I have a Columbus and use a Mac to download updated maps to , as the Mac generates spurious files I use “Clean my Drive “ to remove these files and have never had a problem with the updated maps loading

I have a 18 reg and as far as I know you must use the card Skoda provided, I updated mine some weeks ago no problems.
  39. 1 point
I used my original one when updated and worked no problem. Make sure you do a backup on the contents, just in case something goes wrong and you want to revert back.
  40. To do it yourself you will need a 16Gb USB C memory stick or a USB C adapter to allow you to use a standard USB memory stick, ask for the link to download the firmware, the follow the guide on page 26 carefully or get someone to do it for you if you don't feel confident enough to do it yourself. Alternatively if you're car is still under warranty get it booked it to your dealer and get them to do it.
  41. I think photos 2 and 8 show what has let go, I assume you are no longer driving the car, if you are please cease to immediately if not sooner!
  42. Doesn't scrub up to bad, put a battery on and topped up water, turned the key and away she went.

Is this the hidden files problem well talked about? Thought you have to use the Skoda card because of the hidden files. tom
  44. After some initial back and forth with some dealers over the weekend, Im pleased to say that I've struck a deal and put down a deposit on a 60 this afternoon. You'll now have to suffer my questions relating to wall boxes....

A genuine Skoda warranty is valid nationally but would only be recognised by authorised Skoda dealers. The authorised Skoda service dealer is Dubbo Volkswagen i.e. they are listed as such on the Skoda AU website. If they are refusing to recognise the warranty I'd contact Skoda AU to clarify. Similarly, they should also assist with obtaining the previous service history. VW dealers are authorised service agents for Skoda in many regional towns where dedicated Skoda dealers do not exist. It seems Clancy Automotive in Dubbo also service Skoda along with a range of other brands but their site doesn't say if they are Skoda authorised, hence they may not do warranty work.
  46. All that now now now etc - was Beginning to wonder what was going on 😀😀😀
