  1. A few from today (Sunrise, Sunset, Ice 🥶, a few birds, Crescent 🌙 and an Astromode shot with a Pixel 6a)..........
  2. Not mine, but my Daughter's - she's recently moved and has the benefit of darker skies: Seven Sisters and Jupiter 😎 Taken from an Iphone. Gaz
  3. Not lucky, it was a considered diagnosis, the rough running from cold and the temperature gauge implausibility pointed to a temperature sender fault.
  4. Seemed to be the face seal to block that failed there, rather than the pump itself. Only 10 years old too.
  5. That ^ water pump had hardly leaked at all compared with this one, on my Polo (this week's cambelt job!)
  6. Happy New year everyone!
  7. Changing cars to save a marginal amount on fuel is a false economy. It will likely take years to recoup the money you lose on your skoda at such low mileage and the yaris probably won't be much better anyway. As has been said, if you're looking to change look at an EV of some kind

Thank you both for your replies. I called the dealer to ask if there are any software updates to the infotainment system, but I wasn't able to talk with someone who knows. I'll keep trying and hopefully get a positive reply.
  9. When you live on the edge of a quiet country town (not in London) at night the only noise is boilers and heat pumps so their noise is a significant factor in neigbourhood discussions!
  10. You got lucky here, but its really worth investing in a ODBEleven system if you plan on keeping the car.
  11. "Roughly 37% of methane emissions come from highly concentrated sources at relatively few sites. Therefore, methane capture devices installed on a small number of sites could have a huge impact. Implementing existing technology to capture and use or burn methane at 3000-6000 sites worldwide could have the equivalent greenhouse gas impact of taking 100 million cars off the road" https://overshoot.footprintnetwork.org/portfolio/burning-methane/ "Methane is a potent greenhouse gas — 28 times more potent than CO2 over 100 years. It can be turned into CO2 by simply burning it, reducing its global warming potential by 96.4%."
  12. Sounds like the typical sticking shroud within the water pump. It seems to be a common fault on some.
  13. We should regulate BOTH sectors with a view to incentivising them to reduce their release of CO2 and make their processes more efficient. But since methane is shown to be far more environmentally damaging surely that should have a higher profile and priority to be reduced?

@NZsteve I've not heard them called bacon strips before and been in MTB game for 30 years. Maybe it's a circles thing. As in who you hang out with. Also worth noting that the noodles/worms/bacons you get for car tyres are a fair bit larger than for push bikes. I have a kit on each of my gravel and big bikes as well as for each of our cars. The car kit worms are at least double the diameter. I'm sure many holes could be patched with the bike version but I'd be looking at getting a car specific kit in your shoes.
  15. I would also consider something like a Citigo, UP or Mii as they do 50 mpg easily and pretty cheap to run

1.5 litres of fluid drained from around my left lung and started on a course of strong antibiotics to bring the associated infection under control. Stll a way to go yet, but I was allowed to come home again from hospital yesterday (New Years Day). So today, I went out to the garage to see what was what. Car started, still had a message initially about drive the car, battery low, but I steadily took it for a drive. Rusty brakes sounded horrible to start with, but cleaned up as I drove. Felt a bit strange driving after such a long time. After about 10 miles the tyre pressure warning came on, which I kind of expected. Found a suitable place to stop and checked and inflated them to 36psi - they were all different and all just below 30psi. After that I continued on a quiet drive on a circular countryside route. Home again after 1 hour 20 minutes, 30 miles completed. That should hopefully have given it plenty of time to recharge properly, had forgotten what a lovely car it is to drive. I have numerous upcoming appointments at the Doctors and hospital over the next few weeks, so it will be nice to be able to get myself to them and not have to rely on others. Thanks for all the advice given, and to those who offered get well wishes, much appreciated. Cheers,
  17. Yep. Mine reports nothing, but a solid place to start.
  18. Not on this generation 😞
  19. I'm not sure that with that driving profile you should be thinking about an ICE or even a hybrid and should instead be thinking about a BEV or a PHEV?
  20. Quite confusing altogether, but I will investigate further, your info atleast gives me hope. Thanks.
  21. I also had issue with mine. But luckily it was replaced under warranty.
  22. When its being jump started does it turn over at normal speed or is it slow. It could be a faulty starter motor. I had one that the coils were failing and it was only turning engine over about 1/2 speed which was too slow for my old diesel merc van. It would just manage if there was an extra battery involved but wouldnt start when cold unless it was jumped. If your battery is only about a year old I would take it back or get it checked as its probably still under waranty. Check earth connections and battery terminals as well.
  23. Feedback on our interaction with Camberley Service Centre. We took out a 2 year service plan for the Karoq covering year 4 and 5 services which included one extended scope service, one air filter change, one cabin filter change and one spark plug change. The car went to Camberley for the year 4 service in November 2023 and they were asked to do an oil change plus extended scope service, and an air filter change. On arrival the receptionist took the view that an air filter change was not included under the service plan we had. Eventually someone more senior intervened and confirmed it was included. On collection, we noted the invoice showed the air filter change, plus the cabin filter had also been changed - despite the fact the latter wasn’t scheduled until year 5 and that it had been changed at year 3. There was no reference to the extended scope element of the service on the invoice, or on the Digital Service Record (DSR) sheet. The receptionist assured us it had been done but ‘just doesn’t appear on the paperwork’. At year 5 (November 2024) we took the car to another dealership. When we booked it in we commented that we remained unconvinced that the extended scope service had been done by Camberley at year 4. The service advisor looked up the car’s service and warranty record and confirmed that it had not. We asked the new dealership to do the spark plug change - as included in our service plan. When we collected the car the invoice showed the extended scope service having been done (albeit not referenced on the DSR). The key issue, however, was that they had not changed the spark plugs as the vehicle’s Skoda service/warranty database showed that these had been changed at the year 4 service – Camberley. We highlighted that the invoice from Camberley hadn’t included a spark plug change nor was it shown on the DSR. The new dealer just advised that ‘we would have to take it up with Camberley’. The outcome was that we complained to VWFS (who run the service plan) highlighting that we were paying for a service plan that included a spark plug change and we were now being denied this, despite none of the invoicing / DSR papers we had been given showing it had taken place. They commented that in these circumstances VWFS would normally have to refer the matter back to Camberley to correct, although they acknowledged that with the passage of time this was probably going to take some months to resolve. After further ‘discussion’ VWFS provided us with a goodwill payment sufficient to cover the cost of the spark plug change at another dealership. Camberley Service Centre 1) Initially tried to make out that the air filter was not included in the service plan which they had confirmed would be included when the booking was made. 2) Did not undertake the extended scope service sought - undertaken at Winchester the following year. 3) Updated the car’s service and warranty records to show the spark plugs had been changed (and presumably claimed for the cost of them from VWFS). 4) Changed the cabin filter despite it not being due as a year 4 scheduled item and it had been done the previous year. Based on this experience I would not recommend using this service centre.
  24. Yes, I've been here a very long time, back in the PD's hey day injector loom failure was common, injector failure, very rare. So...
  25. Hi George... You've read the OPs post incorrectly. It's a 2.0tsi detuned to 140kw. https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-reviews/2022-skoda-octavia-140tsi-limited-edition-review
  26. VCDS or OBDeleven, basic scanners often don't pick up faults in non-powertrain systems.
  27. Not just artificial meat, cattle feed and breeding cows that emit less methane are starting to show encouraging results. For me the challenges with heat pumps are worse in properties with combi boilers and hence do not have hot water storage so as well as the cost and noise of the external unit and the possible cost of larger radiators there is also the complication of additional plumbing and finding space for a hot water storage tank. My new build had a "cupboard" where a tank could be fitted but no plumbing anywhere near it, but my GF has had her "airing cupboard" deleted to make way for a shower so there is no obvious place for a hot water storage tank.
  28. Tried them. Even did a factory settings reset to clear any hidden settings. Thank you all for the suggestions, I'll just have to keep my eyes on the road for the time being...
  29. That’s OK if light traffic, but I always seem to pick busy times, with much stop go traffic, then speed up, slow down, etc. Cruise seems, to me, more for clearer roads. Had cruise in last six cars, and only used on one, for about a month. Still, each to their own.
  30. True, but is this really such a problem? We are driving, after all.... Personally I have not used cruise control for a great many years.
  31. I never use cruise, and have only used the limiter on other cars, (my current Karoq does not have it, only the speed warning setting), on motorways or dual carriageways, set to the posted limit. This is ideal, for me, in 50 limits in roadworks, etc. Perhaps, as I have been driving for 56 years, I have done without for so long, I don’t see the need for cruise control.
  32. So had to put it aside for a while due to ongoing work in the shed. But I now have functional pit lights, and better overhead lights. New injector loom, new cam sensor, no luck. Got a crank sensor, got the specific socket for the crank sensor and stripped. No access at all so front came off it yet again. Damaged the rad taking it off so gonna get a new one, plus oil filter housing had to come off so more gaskets to get. Lucky an ez out got it out easy. Wasn't much torque on the bolt even, threads looked fine just the head was rotten. I may just end up cleaning down the front of the block and painting it at this rate, plus fix any scabby wiring, since I'll be waiting for parts to come.
  33. As reliability is your concern (it would be for me too in your situation), why not just buy the official Skoda UK extended warranty? On our cars the cost has often repaid itself several times over. Take the first car in Ootohere's post as an example, a white Karoq, SY67 YJS, with 71,431 miles. The cost today of the warranty for that car is £295. That is the comprehensive warranty; the version covering only named components is £250. Those prices would rise somewhat if you chose a different excess or intended to do more than 10,000 miles a year. https://insurewithskoda.co.uk/extended-warranty

The steering wheel changes in the superb owners manual in November
  35. @thamestrader Apples & pears then from the Karoq if not one with a 2.0 TSI or TDI or a 1.5 TSI ACT with Haldex.
  36. @Ootohere My Touran was the 2.0 L TDI with 6 speed DQ250, I had the DSG oil and filter changed at 36,000, 72,000, and 100,000 miles slightly earlier than required. Gearbox was as smooth at 108,000 as when new. .
  37. @thamestrader Was your 2013 Diesel Touran a 1.6 TDI so had a DQ200 DSG, 7 speed dry, and did it get the Service Campaign 34H5 as many required? So a DSG that a 1.0 or 1.5 TSI ACT FWD will have, and which some 2018,s had issues and also needed a Software update. So a bit like the 2013-2015 DQ200,s. PS the 2018 Kangerooing issue with 1.5 TSI ACT,s was not just with manuals. Test drives are important even 6 years on.
  38. Normal. That's just the ECU saying Hi. For anything you do in the car it makes a note of it. Open the bonnet, logs and status are updated. Open the door...same thing. Don't worry about it....you will get use to the VAG quirks.
  39. Wishing you all a Happy New Year 2025 🍻
  40. The two oblong pieces are load retainers for the boot. They should have velcro on the shorter return side, and if you have a carpet tyoe boot floor they stick to it. They bend in the middle so you can form a right angle to butt up against things in the boot to stop them moving about. I find them very effective. If you don't appear to have a carpet type boot floor, look at it's underside - Skoda do a reversible boot mat with plastic one side and carpet the other. Can't help re the other item though.
  41. On the pre-facelift Superb, the interior lights turn on when u open the door, not when u turn the ignition off. I would assume the same for the facelift Superb too.
  42. Hey Crapula, YOU ROCK!!! Thank you for this amazing post, so easy even a girly could do it, now I have my vRS Kodiaq Bear welcoming me home!!! I owe you a hug and a beer (or many) Thank you!!
  43. Yes, you have to change two values: 09 – Central Electrics - Adaptions Search 'scheinwerferreinigung' (headlight cleaning) Select 'SRA Verzoegerungszeit' and set value to '2000' (don't worry that the range is '0-250' on the input field) - it is the time in ms how long you have to hold down the washer stick to initiate headlight wash request. Commit the change Number of activation front wash per SRA activation - Anzahl Betaetigungen Frontwaschanlage pro SRA Aktivierung: This is by default set to 10 and means if you pull the washer lever 10 times it will activate the lights cleaning. You need to change it to 1 so that every time when you hold washer stick for 2 seconds, it cleans lights. If you leave it to default then headlight wash occurs only after 10 time of holding 2 seconds. Now when you hold washer stick ~2 seconds, it will spray water on to lights.
  44. If someone still has to replace the oil separator cover and needs some help, I've done it in September 2024; feel free to ask any question.
  45. There have been a number of comments about my local dealer Meadens. We have three Skodas, and others before, all from Meadens, and in general we rate them highly. What I do have issue with is the inefficient and dishonest Skoda HQ customer services, and the long delays for the company to fix issues (particularly and currently Infotainment system in 2020 Superb L&K which repeatedly fails). I feel guilty that I have to pile pressure onto the garage, when it's really not their fault, but they are the agent. However from me, after seven years of dealing with them, it's a thumbs up for Meadens.
