  1. Spotted our first Lambs last night - had a drive out to watch the sunset and drink a hot chocolate from a lay-by...... Lovely Crepuscular Rays before sunset although my phone didn't do a great job of capturing them.
  2. Update 21/03/25 Audi going very nicely now, with the exception of a rattle that's almost certainly related to the one MOT advisory, front upper arm play, both sides. Nearly got a quote for getting this done, as it's all a bit 'heavy engineering' compared with what I'm used to. Fruitlessly changed a hydraulic engine mount on Wednesday, just in case it was that. Test drive filled me with joy for about 1 minute after that and then the rattle/clatter was there again, unchanged. 😆 Now there's a likelihood that both my Polo and the A4 will be going, in favour of a Roomster that I'm going to see tomorrow. It's like a blend of the two, in terms of size and shape (and mass). 😁 Petrol, turbo, blue, and something of a fixer-upper; why wouldn't I want that?

Yeah that’s veh good. Currently getting 23 to/from work, from cold in all of 1.5 miles! 😂 Best I’ve had is 40.1. on a 200 mile run from Surbiton to Stena Birkenhead. Around 70/75 most of the time with the odd blast to see off BMW/Audi/Corsaboi tail hangers.

Good work. I get up to 40 when driving sensibly. My enthusiasm usually drops it to low 30’s but I can live with that.

Personal best today started out with a full tank and 300 mile range and ended up with 425 mile range after driving 183 miles ! 41.6mpg I love it when the 99 Ron Fairy tops the tank up as I drive along ! 😂
  6. @EnterName you seem not to identify as a Far-right nutter without a Tesla. Or what ever it is that you are.
  7. Depends if you're trying to catch Roadrunner
  8. As someone who's not a far-left nutter or a Tesla owner, this has been enormously entertaining, but I do have sympathy for Tesla owners who have fallen foul of the NPC's latest update. The same people doing everything they can to get people to drive EVs to save the planet from pollution, have been fire-bombing Tesla dealerships because Elon Musk stopped them appropriating US taxpayer money for nefarious purposes. 😄 Typically, their handlers have not criticised them. (It was the same with the BLM violence.)
  9. Test driving at my local dealership tomorrow! 😊
  10. Will likely be driver's door loom with broken wire(s) in the short bundle of cables that site in rubber gaitor and jumps from door jamb to door body . It's pot luck which wires break and hence what starts playing up. Very common fault. Plenty on here re repairing loom or installing complete replacement loom which has been re-engineered with more slack to prevent the same damage in future
  11. 😲 After very nearly 10 years of my faithful Polo; a pal is selling a 57-plate Audi A4 estate with just 107k miles, 1.9 TDI and I am thinking it will be my next car, quite soon! Will feel terrible to lose the Polo, but no room to keep it. Partner wants to hang onto her 05 Fabia, and we'll each drive whichever is most appropriate for the day's journey or task. New house means we're both further away from jobs and friends, so a mile-muncher makes a lot of sense. Never owned a diesel before, but this one is pre-DPF and overcomplicated, inaccessible EGRs; so should be OK to maintain in good health. Didn't see that coming. Although a workmate with a similar commute did say as soon as I moved that I'd be wanting a better/comfier/longer-legged car, which I dismissed in my head at the time.
  12. Well, this seems like as good a place as any to detail my misadventures. First post, please be gentle. 😇 Late last year I came into possession of a 2006 Skoda Octavia Mk2 VRS. It's a 2.0 petrol, pre-facelift, and was named 'Verity' by a friend, on account of the first letter on the number plate. It's my first car, and as such, I love it to pieces. ...and have also spent far too much of my free time figuring out how it works, fixing various components, and yelling obscenities into the engine bay. Things I Have Fixed/AddedReplaced the handbrake blind, which had split entirely into two separate pieces Replaced a missing dust cap on one of the tyres (I know, heavy duty stuff) Replaced the ignition barrel/steering lock (part number 1KO905865) with the help of a friend, as it had seized and wouldn't turn, rendering the car inoperable Side note: I never want to see another shear bolt ever again Hardwired a front and rear dashcam, routing the wires through the body of the car This was an endless nightmare Fixed the steering locking mechanism, with a hammer Got a tyre repair place to fix my back left tyre, whose air pressure valve had somehow sunk into the tyre wall Replaced my fog lights. This is more difficult than you'd think on this particular model. Ask me how I know. Things I Have BrokenThe front ashtray light (RIP) Countless clips, fixings and pieces from various interior trim pieces (remember the dashcam hardwiring?), much of which has either been replaced, or epoxied back together Some fixings on the driver side interior door card, from an apparently misguided attempt to replace the door lock Got the old door lock out, promptly dropped a mystery interior piece into the door, then spent the next 3 hours trying to fish it out through a hole in the panelling. Door lock still isn't replaced. An entire ****ing door, by attempting to overzealously park in a space that was simply too small, resulting in a very quickly-lost argument with a cast iron gate This necessitated the purchase of a door from someone breaking the same model of Octavia, which then sat in my living room for a month as a reminder of what I'd done/an ill-advised art deco piece Things I Have Yet To FixThe various warning lights on my dashboard, which lit up like a Christmas tree after I took the steering wheel apart, and refuse to leave (anyone in Sheffield got a VCDS unit handy?) Airbag warning light, which was already on when I bought the car Tyre pressure warning light - I think one of the sensors is busted EPC, Power Steering, TCS/ESP warning lights - all came up after the ignition barrel was swapped over, but car is no less functional and all 3 components work. Need to clear via VCDS The incredibly annoying wind noise coming from both back doors, where the window panels meet (I think I know how to fix this) The equally annoying wind noise coming from the driver side door, which I have much less of a clue on fixing ...it's been an eventful 4 months of car ownership. 😂 Wouldn't change it for the world though, as this car has given me an amazing sense of freedom, and I love learning how to fix this kind of stuff. I'd love to add mods as well, but I'm not sure how much can be done given its age! It was previously owned by an enthusiast though, so a fair few mechanical mods (turbo mapping, upgraded brakes & suspension) have already been done. I just wanna add interior LEDs lol. If you've made it this far, I salute you for your reading tenacity (but seriously, thanks). Pleasure to be here - you've all helped me plenty already, so I figured I'd try to add some humour to your day(s). xo, Ellie
  13. Thanks! I will show again how it looks once the entire car gets treated.
  14. My 2023 does this sometimes from brand new. My 2016 never did. Something is different about the brake pedal system, not sure what. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about
  15. It’s not uncommon unfortunately. Someone else posted asking the same thing in the last couple of months. Something seems to be sticking a little in the brake pedal mechanism. Doesn’t seem to get any worse, doesn’t seem to have any effect and after a while you’ll likely forget it’s there. Curiously I had a 2018 Kia Sportage from new and that developed the exact same thing about 6 months old too.
  16. HI, unfortunately no news yet. Over 2 weeks at UK port awaiting transporter but hoping no more than 3 weeks and maybe get news next week! Can only hope.

It is registered as a 1.2 12v classic HTP. The exhaust is an aftermarket bolt on tailpipe. It's normally hidden behind the bumper, pointing downwards. I once had one as a hire/courtesy car. It was nippy round town with a light gearshift. I loved the 3 cylinder thrum it gave, especially when you revved it. Far better than a clattery diesel, however I did miss the extra power and torque of my vRS when you left a town. I, just noticed it's your first post, so Hello and Welcome to the Forum.
  18. Octopus Go rates from April Fool's day........ Surprised at the regional variation..... Daily standing charge down £36 a year but day time lecky up 2.4p per kwh and I use about 5 Kwh during the day so 12p a day of day rate lecky so roughly cost neutral. I use more like 12 kwh at night mainly the twice weekly EV charges but that is not costing more ie staying at 8.5 p per kWh........
  19. Something like this? https://mycar.gr/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/product_35395-1.jpg
  20. Hi, welcome.........when did you place the order and was it for an edition 85 model?
  21. A match made in heaven! I have always been really really tempted by the Roomster, the packaging would suit me very well, the old school tech exactly what I want, unfortunately the 4WD of my Yeti whilst not something I was seeking I would not now want to give up. I hope you get it Pete.
  22. Good luck and hopfefully we'll see the progress in this topic
  23. Most bolts that people think are, aren't. Angle tightening after a lower initial torque is simply a far more accurate way of tensioning fasteners than torque alone. Friction makes up so much of the torque 'resistance' that it results in highly variable fastener tension. Angle always results in same increase in tension, because the extension of the bolt is a fraction (e.g. 90/360) of the thread pitch.
  24. Can you explain what you mean by that please? They work just fine, no bulb errors. The only thing to be aware of is that they increase the standby power consumption as they are not ignition switched (so as to work with parking lights) which will reduce the standby autonomy of the battery, modern ones take far less current than the old school ones but its not negligible. I dont understand what he is suggesting.
  25. I replaced the rear 12v socket with a Dual QC USB ports on Gandalf a couple of years ago. It sits flush. I have a 90-deg cable which allows me to close the compartment so it is out of sight. U can read about wat I did here.
  26. Can def see where it disappears; that might be where it hasn't gone down to the primer, which means just the clearcoat can be polished to flat. Even where there are deeper scratches that go through the colour, you can still soften the edges of the scratch to minimise the light deflection and reduce how obvious it looks.
  27. Back and the road 90% likely to trigger the rattle was silent!! Looks like success but will need a few more test flights first
  28. This is a patent that i have made for that speaker's tray so wont produce noise in bumpy roads. An Ω shape rubber stripes in both sides.
  29. It sounds like a loose metal cover. Can you make sure that the covers over the exhaust manifold are all tight and any covers around the turbo are also all tight.
  30. What was one of my company's subsidiaries, Source London, I see s now branded TotalEnergies as that is who we sold the division too ie Total and they now have 2,700 in London and now they are installing n Birmingham too. The above is just in Camden and this is what we found was having to deal with each individual London council, of which there were over 40 compared to Paris where we only had to deal with one metropolitan authority, much easer to get our chargers installed and get our 5,000 Pininfarini little sold state battery'd Bluecars on the streets. The install of the chargers, particularly the powerful DC ones requiring lots of 3 phase power was oft a challenge and expense. Did do RHD versions and launch on London but was nowhere near as big as the Pars scheme. Required subsidies to keep going in these early stages which the Paris mayor stopped dong so the scheme ended but t was reckoned to be taking up to 100k cars of the road at peak times. Hireable in 6 minute slots and best result was 40 hires in a day I recall. Particular useful n gong from Garde du Nord to Garde to Lyon for example.
  31. Well they look alright to me considering the use, you could give them a quick clean and check gaps or check gaps and give the car a bit of a blast run. I assume you have checked both plugs sets are correct to your model and correct gap required.. If any have screw-on end-caps you could check they are tight.
  32. It would be interesting seeing it try to get around itself😄
  33. Hi Danoid thanks for reply. I'm starting to think it may be from one of the undertrays/heatshields rattling in the wind. It's more so on the motorway but when I slip off to my exit it's a smoother road surface and the rattle stops even when I keep up the 60mph. It's maddening. Its times like these I would love a shed and a decent 2 post lift and just strip it all down. Trying to explain all this to a busy technician is a waste of time. I see them rolling their eyes already lol

I've had no problems in 50k miles. Enfin...................... the clutch hydraulics failed very soon after, it was vibration from the DMF that finished them off, before the engine wheezed above 3k RPM and it was always better to change up, after the remap it pulls like a train to nearly 5k RPM, before there was no DMF noise, after at high revs it sounded like the death knock of a Tractor pulling engine before it explodes, I thought it was the remap and it gave me the half crown threepenny bit each time I heard it but when I replaced the clutch and DMF silence returned even at 5k RPM. You are right about the 108/110hp and 140hp engines, mine retains the smaller turbo which is the reason that it has such a huge power band, the small turbo spins up at much lower revs than the 170hp variant. I doubt that mine really does deliver 184hp but if you look at the rolling road videos from Celtic Tuning that what they got, also the standard unmapped engine was giving more than the manufacturers claimed output. 6 speed gearbox more than string enough, its protected by a peak torque limiter AKA clutch bleed block which makes the clutch slip if you dump the clutch or do a lightning quick upshift, those with little sensory connection to their vehicles will soon burn out their clutches if they are unaware of it, it can be overcome by drilling out the internals of the bleed block, I've left mine as the factory intended. I drive for economy and rarely use the power but it's very reassuring when I need it, definitely money well spent. The standard brakes without glazing and using decent pad materials are more than good enough for the extra power, I often tow double or triple the towing limit without incident.
  35. Yeah, it’s definitely not engine-related. The noise only happens when the car is moving, even at slow speeds like 5-10mph. I’ll try to get a recording if i can.
  36. I have issue trusting dealers to wash the car never mind letting them anywhere near it to do any correction. I'll put the £250 extra discount towards getting it done.
  37. It was the front near side. I was the same and bought the car last summer with an advisory of misting on both fronts, so I was expecting it. When I had the car serviced the local dealer (VW, but have just become Skoda approved) flagged it as a definite mot failure (due in may)but not bad enough to be covered under warranty🤔 So I took it up the road to another, let’s say more established and old school Skoda dealership and they replaced it all FOC with no mucking about.
  38. With the new ps5's (so new wheels in a new colour with new tyres)
  39. I finally get to test drive the Elroq tomorrow. Mine was ordered 7th January and had a build week 9. I've no idea where it is now but hopefully I can twist the sales reps arm tomorrow to get up to date information. Before we moved, we used to deal with West End Skoda from Dumferline and they were brilliant at keeping you informed without having to interrogate them. Parks at Dumfries, less so. It'll be interesting to see how effective Traffic Sign Recogntion is. We have it on our current car but, unfortunately Traffic Scotland take delight in putting "HGV 40" signs every few miles on major trunk roads and the car doesn't know it's not an HGV. They're also currently discussing dropping the National Speed Limit down to 50 on single carriageway roads, which will be a bit of a bummer of it comes off. Should help range though!!. I don't drive like a granny, but I do drive like a grandad. I did see that Caffyns Tunbridge Wells have a red one available for immediate delivery. It has the Maxx Pack that we ordered, the Winter Pack that we didn't order, but it has Lodge Interior. We ordered Suite as we thought it would be easier to clean if the incontinance pants sprung a leak 😁 It is encouraging though to finally see a red one in the country. Gives us a bit of hope.
  40. I picked up my Elroq Edition 85 Maxx in moon white on Saturday. It is phenomenal! Even when you're not using cruise control, if you're coming up to a junction, a roundabout,a sharp bend or a speed limit change, it warns you and starts to slow down automatically. I drive like a granny most of the time but I tested the acceleration and it is amazing!! It is the best car I've owned.
  41. Personally I prefer to use the grab the handle to unlock method (Only works on the door you are at so not a security risk) and the touch the handle to lock method when wanting to lock the car. That way I know the car has locked without having to get the key fob out or having to look back and check.
  42. I don't think so. AFAIK, the headlight washers only trigger when lower beam are ON and once out of five times you pull the stalk to wash the wind shield. Knowing this may help you decreasing the frequency of your washer fluid top ups.
  43. The first~ a Boys’ Brigade publicity photo taken at the Raleigh factory when I was 16 (my usual mount was a Norton 350 Model 50) The 2nd pic was a couple of weeks ago aboard a Kawasaki Z400 on holiday in Gran Canaria.
  44. Thanks. Must admit though, as I’ve posted before, my usual bike engined transport has stabilisers at the front…(these pics are taken 25 years apart, the second one being when I first put it on the road in 1998)
  45. We both test drove it this evening. All good, so going to take it off his hands in a couple of weeks' time. Needs rear brakes, but I'm happy to sort that myself. Anyone want a Polo?

if an OCU is below 088, then first need to update to 088 and then from there to 01xx
  47. yesterday i "accepted" to APR's terms and conditions!!! Stage 1 High Torque ECU tune. boy oh boy!! i forgot how much fun a tune can be!! car has transformed nicely. tuner guy was saying the 4th gear 80-120km/h test dropped from 5+ secs to 3 secs!! in theory, its now doing 320 hp (240 kW), 381 ft-lbs (510 Nm). happy as can be
