  1. Arrived at just the right time to catch the sunset this evening.............
  2. I have a Scala Monte Carlo 2020 model. A few years ago, maybe in 2021, I had problem with entertainment which randomly rebooted. I sent a mail to Skoda Connect support team and then I received an OTA update and problem disappeared. You can also check connection status (white globe)
  3. Your mechanic is correct low oil level can raise engine temps, since you have less lubricant whose job is also to remove heat from the engine, but I think in your case this is negiglibe ... you were missing half of a dipstick (if I read right) or you had half of the engine oil topped?. Too little to make a difference. If you are not missing coolant, then there is no leak, then your culprits are few, water pump shroud sticking, thermostat sticking, possible blockage in the radiator, or in the heater core, or some kink in some hose ... there is not much more into it, actually. I reckon you do not have the 'mit silikat' teabag. Now you want no hunches, but sometimes, most of the time, we do not get that luxury ... without going overboard, if this repeats continously, is more than just a sensor going haywire. I would plan timing belt change, water pump and thermostat replaced, new coolant. Address in one single blow more than one, because doing them independently will cost you more.
  4. Officially, the DQ381 box is meant to be serviced at 80,000 miles, but for the sake of reliability, getting it serviced at between 40,000 and 50,000 miles is good practice (and gives your gearbox a better chance of surviving).
  5. Mine was the same and I renewed to get the discount. Confirmation message says it would be added on to run consecutively
  6. Something that annoyed me since I had my superb was the chrome peeling on the passenger door handle. Part from tps is £110 spent ages looking for a breaker that would just sell me the handle and not a full door card and finally a local breaker agreed today 😂
  7. A few of mine from Conningsby/Woodhall Spa some years ago. Shutter speeds a little too high for the props though
  8. Just got my 2021 Karoq Edition back from the dealers yesterday. It was in for service and the fifth look at the SOS system. First time it went in it had a new aerial, second time the other aerial was replaced, third time one of the replacement aerials was replaced (second dealer), 4th time, software update (second dealer), 5th time another replacement aerial (don't know whether its 2 and 2 or 3 and 1, first dealer). Went out today to get replacement tyres and it made it ~35 total miles until it alarmed again. Waiting to hear what they are going to do next. I was told there is a control unit, perhaps they'll change that. Thank goodness I'm not paying for it.
  9. A few from today's visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park Yorkshire Sculpture ParkHome | Yorkshire Sculpture ParkArt Outdoors
  10. There’s a little tool in the boot to hook behind and pull them off but I just pulled them off by hand. Think you are just supposed to pull from as close to the middle as possible. Came off easy enough.
  11. It might be worth considering having ACC retrofitted... Probably cheaper than changing car if it's the only thing you're missing. @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits might be able to help.
  12. The 4.5 doesn’t have a dipstick. The car will tell you if the oil is too low but also click the car icon and you can see the oil level with the engine off (but ignition on)
  13. I changed mine about two years ago I think. I didn’t buy an OE one, but a dirt cheap one from eBay. I decided to keep the G13 coolant in place and added a VW silikat cartridge, which is far more substantial than the teabag used in the OE tank. Also, the cap is dead easy to open and close and it hasn’t had any ill effects on the performance.
  14. Bingo!! Thanks for that......9 years we've had it, and I don't think I've ever touched those buttons....🙄 Nicephore
  15. I used long tweezers, the end result was the same but without the smelly digits.😁
  16. What happens when you try to change the section?
  17. I managed to swap the engine coolant sensor over and it has cured the issue. It was easy to access from underneath. Thanks for suggesting that. I couldn't manage to get the original o ring seal out so re used.
  18. The timing chain won't have broken, but it may have jumped a tooth or two on one of the sprockets. Cam sensor error can be generated by this. There is a fairly straightforward way of checking the cam to cam timing, involving removal of some covers at the gearbox end of the rocker cover.

15 years old, 1.6tdi 129,000 miles, just posted about a coolant leak but apart from that its been the best car i have ever owned.
  20. Hi

Hi there I have just been given!! yes given!! a 2015 Octavia Elegance 1.6 diesel. I hope to lrarn a lot about it as I am a life long VW fan and a previous Fabia owner. I like to work on my cars so I'll be needing advice! Lots probably! Mick
  21. Meant to add if yours has rear discs the handbrake cable operates a lever on top of caliper. My old octavia used to bind as the lever was seizing. The handbrake would go on when you pulled handbrake but wouldnt release properly. I removed caliper (still connected to flexi hose) and then lever from caliper and lubricated mechanism, replaced lever and manually operated it until it freed off. Had to do it a good few times plus kept having to wind in pistons as well. If checking if the brakes are over heated don't burn your finger like I did. Alasdair
  22. my guess would be a drain hole for the box section?
  23. yeah my octavia had it on the gearstick and was peeling and pretty much stabbing yourself each time changing gear
  24. Alcantara differs mostly about getting the fibres to sit up again. I know people who tend to use a damp cloth and only move onto a product for any particular stains. I’d say start with a damp flannel. The fibres on there will help to lift up the alcantara fibres and you’ll be surprised how much dirty comes off too. It’s a good/cheap/easy way to clean much of your interior surfaces to be honest. A bucket of warm water to rinse, ring it out really well so the cloth is wet but not depositing water and you can do everything from steering wheel, dash, seats, seatbelts, door cards. The bucket will not be clean by the end. I use white flannels and then chuck them in a hot wash with bio powder after as some of that is biological dirt (ie skin oils etc)
  25. If the option to select it isn't there on the infotainment screen I'd suggest your car doesn't have that option fitted.
  26. It can also be caused by sticking handbrake cable or pads that are seized in guides/seized caliper guide pins. As Warrior193 said check that the centre of wheels isnt very hot after a longish drive. You can also check by raising each wheel and make sure it spins freely. Alasdair
  27. The bottom 3 items are only activated if you pull the stalk (lower left) towards you. They are active assist systems, rather then the top 2 which are warning systems (pinging and clanging at you when you go to fast etc). If you don’t pull the lower stalk towards you, they are never active
  28. Why don't you ask Skoda for the spare part number based on your VIN?
  29. There's a few available on AliExpress - cheaper than Amazon. Have a look at this thread (there are others)
  30. Thank you! - good to know I'm not simply unable to find the option. Also good to know at least this is on their roadmap - my support email blankly stated that they had no plans to do anything. So strange that with an "updated charger" and a battery that can keep you going for all short trips they would not consider this important - especially if it was previously available - and given that you can already set departure times and preconditioning of the vehicle where climate control/windows are concerned.

So, as I am currently unable to work due to health issues, I decided to make myself a boot liner. I don't have a large income so decided to make one on the cheap. I purchased some Halfords floor mats and modified them to cover my boot space to protect the floor. it cost about £10 and is waterproof to a degree, but far from fully waterproof. Have you made any modifications that you were able to make yourself? It does the job, it was cheap and I accept not as good as an original cover, needs must.
  32. It might also be worth getting quotes from any Skoda/VAG independent businesses such as @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits . They can update the software for you, and probably be far more clear with you about exactly what modules need to be updated. Instead of the usual loop you go through with Skoda Dealers.... of having the car in so they can send a report to Skoda Technical. Wait for Skoda Technical. Skoda Technical then tell the dealer what updates to install. This whole process can take several days. If the issue isn't resolved, the whole process is repeated.
  33. I’ll let the Dealership sort it I think.

Your service unit is telling you complete nonsense, the cooling system is a sealed system - there should be no evaporation provided the pressure holds and there are no leaks! Have you tried replacing the pressure cap on the expansion tank?
  35. Try a search on the forums, I recall seeing a post referring to someone reporting repairs to Mechatronic units.
  36. The license has nothing to do with the dongle. I have a Gen 1, four Gen 2s, and one Gen 3. The license is the account.
  37. Hi, AFAIK, if everything is correctly plug, you need to declare the seat control unit to the '09 - central electric' controller. This is not a simple DIY job. It requires quite intermediate or expert level of knowledge to do it right. At least, I would go to a dealer or to some specialist who do know what they do. @ApertureS 👋 should confirm this (if still lurking on this forum from time to time).
  38. Same colour as my TT! Though it's called Samoa Orange. Not many cars can carry it off (it's used on some VWG SUVs but few around fortunately!) but the Fabia Design/Colour Edition does with its black roof and trim which breaks it up and provides a nice contrast.
  39. Hmm I’d reject it or get them to fix, I believe the battery coolant should have a pin on it to stop owners from ever opening it, so if it didn’t have that then someone’s been there before trying to fix it, gave up then p/x’d it
  40. ETA: UK Government website confirms Felicia 1.3 is not suitable foe E10. Its particularly not good if you don't use the Felicia frequently as t likes to pulling moisture, I can't remember if the E10 petrol it goes off quicker or not, certainly a PITA for petrol 4-stroke garden tools. https://check-vehicle-compatibility-e10-petrol.service.gov.uk/manufacturer/%C5%A0koda
  41. Has the water pump been replaced, given the previous issues with water pumps in the Superb multiple threads in this forum, I would start there.
  42. 215/55R17 and 235/45R18 are Superb MK3 tyre sizes, not Superb MK2 tyre sizes. 215/55R17 and 235/45R18 have much bigger outside diameters than Superb MK2 tyre sizes. Superb MK2 wheel sizes (check the CoC (Certificate of Conformity) to be sure what wheel sizes Skoda approves for your particular car) 205/55R16 6Jx16 ET50 (winter wheel size) 205/55R16 7Jx16 ET45 205/50R17 6Jx17 ET45 (winter wheel size) 225/45R17 7Jx17 ET49 225/45R17 7.5Jx17 ET49 225/40R18 7.5Jx18 ET46 Outside diameter of tyre sizes 205/55R16 631.9mm 205/50R17 636.8mm 225/45R17 634.3mm 205/50R17 636.8mm 225/40R17 637.2mm 215/55R17 668.3mm (not Superb MK2 tyre size) 235/45R18 668.7mm (not Superb MK2 tyre size)
  43. I was outside the front of my house this afternoon, saying hello to my 18 month old neighbour and his Mum. He's very cute, and although he'd just eaten a banana, I let him play with my phone When I went back indoors to finish my cuppa tea, he'd somehow managed to activate my camera. And on the photo's he took, there were a couple of bright red things in the sky over our houses: Like I said, I was only outside being neighbourly 😇 No other reason Gaz
  44. I fit the battery this morning, no hassle. All the lights came up after turning it on, but after the left to right trick they all cleared except a check engine light. Went for a brief drive, turned off and on again - all lights cleared! Yesterday I also joined a local Škoda owners page FB group, and a member kindly offered use of their VCDS so I drove out this afternoon and it took under 5 mins to check my system, clear codes, and then code in the new battery just changing the serial by 1 digit and the Ah from 59 to 60. He didn't even accept the beer, so now I have a fixed car and a 6 pack! (of beer ha!) thanks again for your help and advice - I'm sure it saved me both time and money.
  45. Occasional preventative recharges with an appropriate battery charger following the instructions in the car's 'Owner's Manual' and in the booklet for the charger maintainer. Or if the car is to be lefty for weeks without use (not good for the car or battery) then disconnect the battery or connect up the charger maintainer to both recharge and maintain. Up to you which charger maintainer you choose to buy and use, personally I think the CTek are overrated, over priced and valued based on the two copies of the same CTek model a mate has which giving varying results to each other, not good for the high price - but many users like them. Lidl/Aldi sell perfectly good and long lasting charger maintainers for £15-£20, a neighbour's had one in regular use for years. and I've known of plenty of others that have bought them and use them. High price doesn't give much higher quality, I've had a cheap charger for 40+ years, stills works fine now. I bought and have used for a few years now a Ring 804 Smartcharger for my wife's 2015 VWŠkoda Fabia Mk3 the current model is 904. 4-amps is more than enough, it takes a little longer but generally lower amps is better than higher (faster) amps for the battery. Other makes. models and suppliers are available. - https://shop.ringautomotive.com/rsc904-4a-smart-battery-charger-maintainer.html Batteries like about 20C weather temperature and IIRC self-discharge twice as much at 30c and twice as much again at 40C, plus at those temperatures the air-con is going to be used more so bear in mind recharging for summer as well as winter. Some recharge at the same time they swap to or from winter tyres. I always recharge to the Ring showing "FUL" even if that takes two sessions as the VW battery computer system only goes to about 80% to allow for regenerative top ups from braking and the battery will appreciate going to 100% even if the computer system will have it back to about 80%. Less wear on the battery means less work and wear on the alternator as they work with and for each other. HTH. Good luck.
  46. Good result (hopefully) as long as they fit the same "size" of new battery either a VW Group branded Varta or another brand that you can trust, and code it into the car. Going forward, how to get a "good" service life out of a car starter battery?:- a lot will ultimately depend on how you use the car, as in frequency of use and length of journeys. Maybe get a proper safe smart charger/maintainer and use that as and when you feel the need to. I have a Feb 2011 Audi S4 which I don't use on short journeys if possible, I bought a CTEK smart charger to try to make life better for that battery, it was a VW Group branded Varta AGM, it never ever caused me any problems, that car does not have auto stop/start by the way, at the 10 years point, I thought that I had better replace it rather than have to suffer a battery failure due to old age, when away from home, so I replaced it with a Bosch AGM same size, still fit the CTEK now and again if that car is not being used. The original battery is still in my garage, is still being "topped up" every two months and it still, when out of circuit tests as being quite fit. My wife has an August 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI, with an EFB battery, during Covid I bought a second CTEK(overkill/scatter cash) and made sure it was kept topped up. That car is now at just over 54,000 miles, is used frequently, and its battery still tests okay, auto stop/start still operates if/when I allow it to - the only exemption to that is after a steady dual carriageway, ie no "zooming and braking" it can end up harvesting the battery and so when I arrive at a complex set of traffic lights that have just gone to red, I enable auto stop/start - but it is not available, very annoying watching the extremely "good" average fuel economy slowly drop back a bit! Smart charging is quite good, but could be better so that the situation I outlined does not happen, I know how to avoid it - ie just drive a bit more aggressively just avoiding getting into an accident - but why bother doing that. It's replacement battery, an AGM Bosch, bought in a panic move just before Brexit - when Costco had a good deal running, unfortunately has not been required yet - I'm hoping to off load that into older daughter's 2019 Leon Cupra - but younger generation are not up for spending until after "the event", so her Exide EFB dies slowly but still gets the car started!
  47. Quick end of the week update.... The dealership initially said "the battery is not covered under the warranty, but I will speak to the head of business to see what we can do". I have subsequently had an email from them to say the head of business has authorised the replacement of the battery at no charge to myself. I am going to ignore that it is worded like it's them doing me a favour and take this as a win as it could have been so much more painful with them. Once again, thanks to all the people offering advice here, it helped me get to where I am now! Finally, after reading all these posts about people not taking care of their batteries as an ongoing concern, can you recommend anything I should be doing once the new one is fitted to ensure it's kept as good as it can be? Thanks again everyone (and happy weekend too!)
  48. Good God almighty people, why do we have to bicker so? this is a generally lovely forum to be on, and its up to us memebers to keep it like that. @Exkiwi Differences of opinion happen, but its a lot easier to get along with a friendly tone than being confrontational even when opinions differ...
