Exactly why I bought a 280 L&K Estate & it still scares the bejesus out of first time passengers. 😇

I do have a couple of vehicles in my stable that do very very little mileages per year, and for those I go by "time interval", I would not keep even a good synth oil more than two years, due to acidification and age/wer processes. And especially as you are doing low distance commuting, I have my city runabout in half-distance replacements - 3 to 4k km. Yes it is an expense, and use of oil, but it always costs less than damage to the engine ... plus I have an use for the "used oil", so it does not get waster really. As for the viscosity, I am against a 0W-20 on a almost 300hp 2 liter turbo, but then I do gun it as it should be ... lots of opinions as you have seen, and each one has its own!
  3. Hi everyone! Greetings all the way from the Singapore~ Hope to learn more from this forum. Driving a 2022 Octavia RS 2.0 TSI for 2 years now. Loving it! Check me out on Instagram : Wurbie_930 Cheers 🍻
  4. It's not a wet belt in the traditional sense of it being a wet cambelt which is an issue. The 'wet' belt in your engine is a small belt separate to the cambelt in the sump that drives an oil pump. There have been no reports of issues with it over many years of use
  5. I did yeah, both side nipple is pointing up
  6. Why on earth would you even consider using 'Illegal' oil? Correct specification oil, with timely changes, is literally the life blood of an engine.
  7. The issue with wet belts appears solely to be in relation to cam belts, E.g. Ford Eco-Boom - I've not seen any reports of issues with wet oil pump belts.
  8. you did put the correct side callipers on ? if you put the d/s on the p/s the bleed screw is at the bottom and it will never bleed
  9. Thank you for the heads up mate. I won't be using it on track days or any racing. So I'll just keep them DS2500s on front and rear will stay OEM for now
  10. Update: The infotainment system just notified me that the system update O3A8 (update of the OCU to version 311 as mentioned in other threads on Briskoda) is now available to download and install OTA in my car. Reading the notification it contains text which I have not noticed before (but a similar text was also included in the notification of system update 1989) which should be very relevant to those who still are not receiving system updates OTA (despite Skoda saying it should be possible (please read the current thread from the beginning)). The text is as follows (translated from swedish, my apologies in advance): "The update of your car's online communication unit (OCU) will be available two years after publication. If the update is not installed in due time it may affect the vehicle's ability to function in a fault free manner. The company Skoda Auto a.s. and its business partner assumes no responsibility for faults resulting from neglecting to install the update in due time." Simply Insane.
  11. Hi, welcome. If you've not already seen it, along with all the other subjects and sections on this site is a section for Octavias and forum for the Octavia Mk4, Guides and Projects. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/169-%C5%A1koda-octavia/ Good luck.
  12. I have soon 450tkm and running strong. Only body rust is top off skirts near rear wheels. Skirt and bottom of car not bad. Now seems that rear bushings etc are little bit worn but cheap to fix.
  13. I would definitely change shocks.
  14. My 2015 vRS did it all year round, and would cloud the rear window for a few seconds. Perfectly normal. There are several threads on here about it. Gaz
  15. Was thinking to do rears too but they are staying OEM. Won't be putting doing track days or anything in them 😊
  16. That doesn't look brilliant. What mileage is it on?
  17. DS2500 front, OE rear. That's how someone I know runs his T6 Transporter like that, and that's with over 400bhp. https://blog.onlyrevo.com/400bhp-van-the-hybrid-turbo-vw-t6-tsi-track-weapon/
  18. It is probably moisture in the exhaust. My car does it even after an hour on the motorway and a GPF regen. It's a very common thing on these cars, and the vRS has the most choked up exhaust of any EA888 model.
  19. The throttle body is pretty accessible - surely a decent mechanic would have it done in an hour? Unless something is stuck, it's a bolt on job and IIRC only the intake pipe needs removing. £400 seems rather high...
  20. Ah... it's not all about 0-60 times. I wonder why SEAT/Cupra got the ABT treatment when nobody else did... imagine a vRS-R or Superb R
  21. Hi, welcome. No but your independent or good (when you can find them) auto-electrician, can test the alternator and/or confirm diagnostics, it might possibly be a wire or connector to/from alternator, Halfords misreading or mis-diagnostics and the fault(s) elsewhere. Cars are now very complex, German marques such as VW have been (over) complex for decades, alternators and charging system and monitoring of such by the computer(s) is complex. You might find more and better information in the Kodiaq section particularly if this is a common fault to your model and/or year. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/365-%C5%A1koda-karoq/
  22. Just for awareness - I recently took the DS2500 pads off the rear (kept the fronts) and went back to standard pads. They developed a squeal after a couple of thousand miles and the only way I could reduce it (but never got rid completely) was to do a few heavy stops and get the heat into them. After some normal (ie gentle) braking the noise would start to escalate again. Have since read that on the 280s the rear brakes are quite big in comparison to the fronts and tougher pads aren’t really needed unless you’re going to work the brakes. Hopefully you won’t have the same experience but if you do, that’ll be why.
  23. Done about 14k a year with it since buying it at 17 (in 2021). Just laps the miles up no bother at all. 56 plate and keeps going.
  24. How about this one? 😂😂
  25. The funny thing in my story is that i passed mot last year at the same place without a issue 😂
  26. That means that there is no newer version of that part in firmware. Had the same thing when i was updating fw. You can update without problems!
  27. Had for about this thread 🙄 Saw these little beauties in Bernkastel-Kues (Mosel Valley, Germany) the other week
  28. Thanks Jack, that was the pin for, all working now, except very low light on passenger side, cleaned the pins as they were corroded a bit but still flickering, probably will need new one
  29. Mine 2012 Superb Kombi 1.6TDI has 425 000km on the clock and just recentlyI changed timing belt+water pump. Oli change every max 10 000km and engine still running smootly! I’m in Nordic region with proper four seasons. Rust is an issue, but prevenitve bodyceare will help to stop this process.
  30. To Correct: First 280: 280bhp CJXA EA888.3 non-GPF pre-facelift Second 280: 272bhp DNUA EA888.3 GPF pre-facelift Third 280: 280bhp DNFE EA888.4 GPF facelift. The first and second is literally the addition of GPF. No structural changes, change in ECU/map etc. The 3rd was a whole different engine. Short block probs very similar, but ancillaries, turbo, as well. Biggest thing I've noticed is where the diverter valve feeds in to the inlet pipe from the airbox on the Gen4, but didn't look into what happens on the Gen3. There's no spur on the pipe from the airbox though...found that the hard way when buying a second-hand part...
  31. A miracle happened! Based on my feedback in the MySkoda app, I was contacted directly by Škoda Auto Customer Care (Department VX4/1). They told me they had made several adjustments to my profile settings on their backend and asked me to test it again. Shortly after, the car updated to software version ME 5.6.3, and about two hours later, everything started working perfectly. All telemetry, battery status, and remote features are finally online
  32. I believe so...usually stuff where electronics are involved, either work since very beginning, or they don't ... but I would place it the same way, but from different point view...it's not that I am lucky, rather seems that, unfortunately, you, were unlucky....anyway, I hope you find the best solution that fits you soon
  33. Thats odd as my sons 55 plate 1.2htp has one and also my folks old 1.9tdi estate 56 plate had one that got disabled as it kept going off randomly. Both were mid range not elegance models. Maybe it was an extra spec when ordering from new. Alasdair
  34. Thought i would share. Wing mirror got totaled, Found one on ebay for £35-00 inc postage. Thought it was cheap but reckon I could make one out of two. Arrived in 24hours and is spotless and exactly right. Getting fitted today. https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/ucdpart Alasdair

Have the Canton in my Karoq and it is worth it to my ears. Had an Octavia and Yeti both without and a long as you get the settings right on it it makes it worth while. Run out of volume on Octavia and Yeti but no on the Karoq. The car has lots of stiarage areas so missing out on a small cubbyhole on the dashboard is hardly a scarifice. Plus you get a spare tyre in the boot which is a nice bonus.
  36. Hi all. Two weeks ago I took delivery of my Elroq Edition 60 with Plus Pack. After several years with a Karoq. I find that the estimated mileage is significantly less than the mileage I achieve. I’ve read up about driving style and watch the Mi/kWH figure. After switching to ECO mode and using D on motorways and A in town, I’ve achieved between 3.4-3.8 Mi/kWh figure. This, plus only charging to 80% (circa 190 mile estimate) means I am suffering charging anxiety, constantly concerned to find a quick charge to complete my journey, then having to find something to do to fill the time while charging. Then there is the cost of using public chargers. My strategy was to use home charging predominantly, giving the near spec of 260 miles range with occasional top up from a public charger. It’s all rather disappointing. Any tips, views or ideas would be very welcome please.
  37. I have just discovered that my EA288 engine in our 2023 SIII, a DTUA, is a wet belt engine with the belt running inside the engine to drive the oil pump. I have been telling my children when they looked for cars or anyone who would listen to stay away from the wet belts..... And I am driving one. I never saw this discussed anywhere in a forum. The old EA189 was using a chain. I also discovered that there is a conversion to change to a chain. So no illegal oil. And I have to fill up oil as this wretched engine uses oil in between regular changes. Skoda put me on a 18000M extended interval at the last service. That will also go down to a modest 10000 miles maximum.

…and faster than an Octavia vRS 🤭
