In an earlier posting you said "My dipstick is exactly the same as the manual describes BUT there is not ANY treatment at the marked area as shown in S19-0760 picture - it is just plain steel." Is that actually the case, or does your car's dipstick have the raised 'dotted' section shown in the image in my last posting? This Toyota Tacoma-related Facebook entry discussed reading the oil level on a dipstick when thin oil is being used in a vehicle https://www.facebook.com/groups/4870321056422088/posts/6768461309941377/ and the following three 'tricks' were suggested 1) Use a brand new or extremely sharp hacksaw blade or metal file to “scratch” up both sides of the dipstick with a crosshatch pattern. Be certain to wipe all metal powder/dust before inserting into the engine. If this doesn’t work then add the following to #1. 2) Use a piece of regular stick chalk to rub on the cross hatches when the stick is completely wiped off. Insert dipstick and pull out to see where the level shows on the chalk. Clean off all chalk before reinserting after level is viewed. If you don’t want to do #1 and # 2 then try #3. 3) Have a piece of absorbent white paper towel or absorbent tissue paper. When the dipstick is pulled out quickly then slowly slide the paper towel or tissue edge held tight on the metal from top down toward full mark. When first sight of oil shows on the towel that’s the level. Holding a powerful light close during either of these methods also helps especially if you are in shade or dark conditions. My 2009 Skoda Roomster's dipstick has a single O-ring seal, but my 2024 Fabia's dipstick has two O-rings (image attached) and - as its 'handle' is angled - it is only practicable to fully insert the dipstick in one orientation. Engine hot or engine cold, the two O-rings mean that a good upwards pull is needed to remove the dipstick.

Hello, I have a 2021 Superb 2.0 TDI DTUA 200hp and it has part nr "05L 115 562 A" for oil filter, which is the 161mm one.

On oil consumption, I’ve now had the car back a week and while not done massive miles I’ve driven it everyday and cover maybe 30miles everyday at least, so far no noticeable drop in oil. I’m doing a couple of longer drives over the weekend so will feedback again but I’d say it’s definitely improved.

Measured mine recently. Im burning 1 litre of oil to every 650 miles. Its also regenning more often than not, which takes me back to my original post. Is the mid range oil which is mainly used on services good enough for the Cupa/Cuna engine? The oil is getting too hot, too often, due to the regens, and the oil is breaking down faster and making its way past the rings. Makes me wonder if thats why some swear by Ravenol/Liquid Moly with Ceratec. As they may have better heat resistance. Obviously doesn't take away the fact the piston rings were never good to start with. But can it be slowed down by better quality oils, and a DPF/EGR delete?

I have similar issue but i have done fair bit of mileage, mine is a 66 plate 2.0 TDI and clocked 180k. Lately its been consuming too much oil, i do about 20 to 25k miles a year, but this is my 3rd oil top up of about 500ml within this year. I never used to do it then i did once a year then two and this time its three. i might have done 4 to 5k miles between the topups. looking at forum it looks like its not abnormal.

I found out that on Obd11 you have to go to 4B module, switch to raw binary view(click bytes icon). Then find byte 11 and deselect bit 0. Important to reset headlights after - go to main module 4B main screen and select Basic Settings, run Headlights Basic Settings routine and then run Acknowledge Headlight Basic routine -that should do the job. Let me know if that worked for you. I don't have obd 11 and using Car Scanner, that's why I had to get some help. Hope it will go well!

Thanks all for the advice. As I said I am overdue on the water pump, so I will change to the G12 evo when I fill the coolant back up.

Do the fog lights actually come on with headlights or just the dash symbol. Had foglight symbol on dash when headlights were on but fog lights as far as I can remember were off (cant actually remeber if I checked) until switched on. It turned out to be a bad connection at rear of cluster. I removed cluster and cleaned and reseated it. Had a few dim lights on dash as well including DPF. Same car as yours 1.9bxe so no dpf which made me think cluster was problem not wiring. If your removing cluster disconnect battery first. Alasdair

Almost certainly this. Other end looks to be riveted in, so standard part of box whether used or not.

its not mentioned in the book, it may be wrong or just an unused fitting, I need to know what other peoples Elroqs'look like to know, but your right it does look wrong. Maybe something is supposed to bolt to it, but its not fitted to my car??

I'm not convinced; they were imported in multiple container loads at a time, so they weren't low-value imports. Most of them in my area were destined for a large warehouse in Essex and a couple in East London. They were going to huge wholesalers who had set themselves up as suppliers to smaller independent wholesalers who were not large enough, or had poor credit ratings. Meaning main large-name UK and European manufacturers would not supply them. Often these smaller wholesalers would operate from a shopfront and would sell to the general public,, who would not be allowed to use a proper wholesaler.

Good afternoon Dave, is the 80Amp fuse link under where the nylon fuse extractor is? That missing terminal post nut clearly looks wrong - what does that fuse protect?

I scraped with a knife the black coating at the marked area and now it's more visible... Not great but good enough 🙂

Hello, Skoda Superb Mk3 2.0 TDI L&K Looking for some advice. I have a small coolant leak, and I think it is coming from the water pump. The car is on 84,000 miles, and I don't have any records of the cambelt ever being changed. I have asked Vindis Skoda in Cambridge for a quote to change the cambelt and water pump, and they came back with £1630.70 inc vat which I think is outrageous. I could do it myself but I want the record of it being done for future sale. I was under the impression it was covered under a fixed pricing strategy, but the link http://www.skoda.co.uk/finance-and-offers/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed is now just a redirect. They have an old 2021 document https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/8b70c541-726b-4996-9999-66ebc7ca520b stating it is £500 for a cambelt and water pump. Even without the Silicate pouch or dispenser, G13 coolant is quoted as having a service life of two to three years. If doing your own coolant refill, be aware that persistent air-locks can be problematical unless either vacuum-filling or VCDS purging procedure is used. I intend to change to G12evo on my next coolant replacement - unless VAG decide to change, yet again!

There are new measures here in the UK and the EU to stop low value imports, by requiring full customs entries rather tgan Low Value simplifications, so there are less import entries of higher value and more of them can be paper anfmd physical examined plus more taxes collected. Should help reduce these poor quality shipments.

I am just looking for an oil filter for our SIII. Searching online comes up with 2 different cartridges - a 101 mm and a thinner 161 mm one. Which one would be for the 2L TDI with 200 bhp?

The sole reason I provided a link to the video was because it demonstrated the 'kitchen towel' ploy. The business end of my Fabia Mk4's dipstick is as shown in the attachment below and matches the drawing in the relevant Owner's Manual. The main difficulty in identifying the oil-level is due to the dipstick's black colour.

Unfortunately I don't deal with MIB3 units :(
