  1. Hi. Had my Superb for almost three years covering 79500miles. I've been impressed by the interior space as it fits almost anything you ever could imagine put inside the car. Reliability has been awesome, a broken damper, boot lid lock and some knocking on the front suspension. At one time it wouldn't start but it cured itself after a couple of minutes. I've never been a friend of the driver seat, for my quite heavy body 105kg @177cm it has to little cushioning and the shape of the backrest doesn't do any good for my body. The massage function is a gimmick that's nice to have but I won't miss it. Ventilated seats on the other hand is god send Comfort is ok, to much road and wind noise, with DCC in sport it gets quite stiff but it doesn't improve the handling that much (,normal driving). Comfort mode is my melody - floating around on the road Rear seat must be among the best there is!? Specced the steering that only has two turns end to end, really nice when going slow, parking etc. ACC does what it should, adaptive lane assist and everything working but I've only used them for a couple of hundred miles as I hate the feeling of someone else taking control of the car. 3zone climate control, it's okey but could have better cooling and heating, always keeps this in "sync" and won't miss it a bit. Heater and Skoda connect, heater ok, basic performance and Skoda connect has been really dodgy, never knowing when it will work made me use the remote most of the time. Headlights - low beam ok but high beam is a joke, installed a led bar as I drive on country roads with more forest than people and often when it's dark. Washe fluid tank a little on the small side, would have appreciated 6-8litres capacity. Rear view camera - God send! Really good resolution and functionality no matter how ****ty weather or dark it is. Columbus head unit - really hate the touchscreen. Not that fast but does what it should. Canton - I'm one of those that doesn't like the sound it produces, to much treble and low end, nothing in the middle. Good for electronic music though. Towing capabilities - pretty good actually, nothing to complain about except the DSG when doing tight manouvering. I guess this is common for all brands of these boxes. Haldex - ok performance, programming must differs a bit from Volvo as it feels like it's slower in it's reactions. Never gotten stuck anyway That sums it up - a good and reliable car, everything I complain about is subjective things that matter to me while others couldn't care less. Also the seats surely fits many others perfectly. But where will I go now? I came from a Volvo XC70 (my wife's car now) and will return to Volvo. Just signed the contract for a 2021 V60CC B4 AWD some sort of mild hybrid diesel with a whopping 14hk 48V electric motor It does miss some of the features of the Superb like adaptive chassi, that steering wheel thing, ventilated leather seats etc. But sound level in cabin is lower in the standard model, specced laminated windows all around in my order, makes a big difference in the XC70 and I believe it will in the V60CC also. Seats fits me better, climate control has more oumph for both cooling and heating and the overall finish is a little bit comfier than the Superb (my opinion). Someday I might come back, but for three years from now I will be hanging in different forum. Wish you all the best!

Tyre puncture foam, is the work of Satan. Use it and a repairable puncture becomes irreparable and a new tyre is required. The bloody stuff should be banned.
  3. The speed rating of the tyres fitted should be those homologated by the manufacturer for that model, its probably not so important in the UK but over here the vehicle will fail its CT if it has anything than the homologated tyre size & rating and insurers are very zealous in refusing claims for the most ridiculous of reasons that would never stand up to a legal appeal. Why? - because they always have done and people meekly accept it. There is also the load rating, a vehicle could potentially carry a maximum payload and drive at its maximum speed for hours on end on a German Autobahn. I have no reservations about driving on lower speed rated tyres as I generally remain within the speed limits but over here its the CT test which is the killer and also no tyre fitting place will fit anything other than the homologated tyres.
  4. Lots of useful info in this thread, but one point has been missed or misunderstood .... the "speed rating" ... yes most car will never do the speed that the tyre fitted is rated for, but the reason they are rated above the max speed of the vehicle they are fitted to is because the "rating" does not mean the maximum speed that the vehicle can do, but the rating actually means the speed that the tyre can sustain for 600 seconds before suffering a catastrophic carcass failure .... so say you are on a German Autobahn, if you Yeti has a max speed of 127 miles per hour you need to be using a tyre with a much higher "speed rating" than your Yeti can achieve ..... if using "H" tyres, that have a 130MPH rating you are running dangerously close to that absolute tyre limit before carcass failure, hence they car will be fitted from the factory and homolgated with W rated tyres so they provide a safety margin close to 75% of the tyres speed rating. Make no mistake .... a tyres speed rating should not be used to match the maximum top speed of the vehicle they are fitted to. I await the flaming about UK speed limits etc, but thats how it works and that is why they tyres fitted are "so" much higher rated, like it or lump it. 🙂
  5. The Windows built-in "unzip" cannot handle zip files that have been password protected (which is not the case here). It also cannot handle other compressed file formats such as "RAR" which you occasionally encounter (again, not the case here). But I've always found it pretty solid and reliable with normal zip files and have certainly never had any problems unzipping Skoda/VW map updates using it. As to the "adware" warning - many people locate software to download by using a Google search. It's not uncommon for those searches to take you to sites that are less reputable than Cnet and some of those sites are setup with multiple, deliberately confusing, "download here" links that will download software other than what you're actually looking for. I've had to remove "Mindspark", "MyWebSearch" and "DriverUpdate" so many times from people's PCs that I feel it's always worth warning people to be careful about what they download for free from the internet.
  6. The photos were 20+mb so another photo from yesterday, quite a lot of localised flooding as this quiet stream turned into a raging torrent very quickly.
  7. Pretty sure I was taught to leave cars in neutral when parked as it's something I've always done. The only exception would be on a steep hill, then I point the wheels at the curb and will sometime leave it in gear. Then again, I've never had a handbrake fail and I expect it's a bit flatter here than Tayside
  8. A huge thanks to 45 people this month newly signing up or renewing both freedom lite and freedom. We've added a further 100 trees to our efforts. I'm settling down on 1 tree per freedom lite, and two per freedom. Then rounding up, because the planet could use a little help and not all trees will make it Remember this is coming out of the pot from advertisers; which you'll also not see anymore of, so less data on your phone, power win, win, and a win. Co2 wise, the server is still putting out a paltry amount in the grand scheme of things. So a 2 tonne offset is still more than covering us this month. I'll be making the contribution later in Sept ( Oct 2020 is 18years since launch of site ) that should make us carbon negative from a server/technology position. It's rough, I can't tell you how long I had my laptop or desktop on for in the last 18years... so I'm going for safe rounding, assuming 24hrs a day. It's been a fun mental game. I've also been wracking my mind as to trips I've done just for briskoda, like driving to milton keynes to meet skoda marketing reps and talk about mumsnet. I've also decided to back fill orders on the basis of 1 tree per order, which is more than I'm doing at the moment. Again, we're trying to be negative, not neutral and overkill is underrated, right? So, in a few weeks I'll be dropping a lot more trees and carbon offsets
  9. Cost about £190.00. Much cheaper than getting another car. ☺️ I would struggle to replace it as nothing out there has the load lugging capacity with the performance, gadgets/features and luxury at that price.
  10. Question, what steps should you take if your car catches fire? Answer, Bl**dy long ones!
  11. Another Octavia VRS estate convert here! Bought my 272 Sportline Plus in November for £23500 with 5k on the clocks. I was considering the Dragon Green but had a nagging doubt that, whilst it does look stunning, the novelty might wear off after a while. I’m not an exhibitionist and worried that there was no way I was going to blend in in that colour! So, I went for Meteor grey, the polar opposite. I still wonder if I made the right decision but think the Superb looks, ahem, superb in both. There were very few Dragon Green available when I was looking but the prices did seem much more reasonable. For me, the non-negotiable spec-wise was Canton. That limited me to very few cars. As others have said, it may be worth deciding which engine you want and being patient. As you’ve shown on your Octavia thread, you’re more than capable of retrofitting most options.
  12. I've been using these tools since the 80's and never yet had the correct pitch combination between the tool & the self adjust mechanism, granted its easier when the pitch is less because it doesn't bind. I recall the first time ever finding out that a tool was needed was at the Folembray race circuit close to where i now live, Sierra rear calipers on my Caterham, I had gone through the rear pads in the morning session and had to retract the pistons with water pump pliers and levers, after that I will never moan that a retraction tool is difficult to use.
  13. Hello. I was able to set up a reversing camera without dynamic lines from aliexpress for the amount of £ 16 .. Everything works as it should .. I did the coding using obd eleven..
  14. One from yesterday after getting caught out in what was quite a biblical storm cell that rolled through Branksome
  15. If you are using a Windows 10 computer then you don't need "7.zip" or any other external apps to extract files from a zipped file. Windows 10 has basic zipfile extraction built-in and has done for years. Simply RIGHT-click the zipped file, select "Extract All..." then choose the location where the extracted files will be placed. For Windows 10 users this is the safest option, since some of the free downloads of "7.zip" or "WinRAR" can contain adware or other unwanted apps that can be installed on your computer.
  16. There are threads on this forum and others on Parking Brakes / e-Brake Parking brakes letting go. Hot discs / drums when parked and cooling down and not holding. Skoda / VW say 'Driver Error', but it has been shown and proven that there is also 'Failures' of the Parking Brakes as well. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/436830-skoda-octavia-handbrake-issues http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/469089-electric-parking-brake-failure I really find it hard to believe that drivers of a manual car do park and leave then in neutral unless maybe going to be doing maintenance on the car. As to 'professional drivers' or those driving for a living being silly in leaving a car in neutral as a matter of course, that says more about them than the vehicles they drive.

I'm not being rude but don't you have really poor eyesight?
  18. Well said and explained Truckbus UK. Expect at least one red downward arrow for your troubles!
  19. If you are not willing to even look with your own eyes then you might as well toss a coin and believe who you wish. And as for asking strangers on a forum who to believe without even looking to describe what you saw or taking a photograph...................... Maybe a tarot card reader?

All that leaves is wiring between Climatronic unit and fan control module, and/or the Climatronic not actually requesting fan action for some reason. Since it would take both wires to be broken for the fan to not work on either speed if it were being requested by the Climatronic, I'd have to conclude that the Climatronic module is not asking for fan action. Why not? Dunno. VCDS might be able to help.
  21. My fingers are crossed for you @Gabrielem
  22. Robjon, been having a good think this afternoon. My current Yeti SEL Drive has done less than 28k and I chose the exact options I wanted when I bought it new in March 2017, so, I have decided to keep it for at least one more year. Really it has everything I want and the elevated driving position I prefer. So, as my wife says, why change it - particularly as I bought the extended warranty? Guess I was hankering after a new car but realistically anything else on the market at the moment will be a compromise and a step back from the Yeti!
  23. To calm us all down, I have ordered 4 x Goodyear Vector All Season
  24. When I learned to drive with BSM in 1968, putting the car in neutral and pressing the button on the handbrake before engaging it was a must. I was obsessive about waggling gear knobs . Habits have changed and I always leave the Octavia in gear and the front wheels towards the kerb if on a hill. Having to press the clutch pedal in modern manuals before starting gets around the old jump forward, tinkle manoeuvre .
  25. So have BMW / Mini development engineers failed in their objective.
  26. The 'flat rate' isn't shared between the sites unfortunately, I seem to remember. Payments go to different organisations.
  27. Was about to say the same thing, no need for messing with external apps, I believe even Windows 7 had it?
  28. 5E0093860C £50 Full tool kit, foam, jack, wrench, bolt to hold wheel to the boot floor etc...
  29. Just for interest, this will not fit a 16" full size spare without a fair amount of fettling, you have to chop half the bottom off and remove bits from the side. This part number was fitted to a 2016 1.4tsi sel with 18" space saver.http://www.catcar.info/audivw/?lang=en&l=c3RzPT17IjEwIjoiQnJhbmQiLCIyMCI6IlNLT0RBIiwiNDAiOiJPY3RhdmlhIEV1cm9wZSIsIjUwIjoiMjAxOSIsIjYwIjoiQWNjZXNzb3JzIiwiNzAiOiIwMTIwMCJ9fHxzdD09NzB8fGJyYW5kPT1za3x8bWFya2V0PT1DWnx8bWRsPT1PQ1QgIHx8RXBpcz09ODA1fHxFaW5zYXR6PT0yMDE5fHxNYWluR3JvdXA9PTB8fEJpbGR0YWZlbD09MDEyMDB8fEdyYWZpaz09MDAxMjAwNzQ2
  30. Fitting narrow wheels sounds like an interesting option, I'd imagine that will make the car quieter and possibly more economical (or am I just talking nonsense)? Will there be any noticeable drop in grip? I like how the 17"s look on the Rapid because they look to be the correct size for the car, and I can't see 16" looking much different. I wouldn't want to go lower than 16" for the same reason as you mentioned. That is an added benefit if I do change the wheel size to something more common. There's a lot of options for a 16" 5x100 wheel, so just a case of finding something I like and seeing if it will fit. Thankyou to everyone for their input! Very insightful/helpful
  31. Before it was part exchanged last month, V rated All Seasons.
  32. 205/55R16 is not an option for Rapid owners. The outside diameter is too big so it won't fit without rubbing. If you compare 205/55R15 to tyres that actually fit the Rapid such as 215/45R16 and 215/40R17 then you will find that the 205/55R15 size can be cheaper depending on what models you compare. There are many cheaper sizes than 205/55R15 that will fit the Rapid, including 185/60R15.
  33. Maybe send Laser Tools an email on that subject, they do respond quickly, I've needed to talk to them about something a year or so ago. What you are suggesting does make a bit of sense, I've only ever used my Sykes Picavant one on a 2000 VW Passat and a 2002 VW Polo, but I do know that when I replaced a calliper on that 2000 Passat, the Pagid or TRW refurbished calliper seemed to have a different lead screw pitch than the original, meaning that I needed to adjust the cable length on one side - not the best fix, replacing these callipers in pairs would have worked better, but I knew that I was not holding onto it for long.
  34. You've got competition 🙂 I've also currently got my Octy VRS for sale and am on the lookout for a Superb. Would like the Dragon Green or Meteor Grey. And for me VC is a must and I'm looking for a 2019 FL model. Petrol preferable, and 272 would be nice too. Im in Ireland though so need to import, VRT etc etc. But I have deadline of Dec 31st when importing will practically be impossible with Brexit kicking in. I'm hoping Sept brings some new stock. Isn't that a reg change for the UK? I'm hoping that a good number are holding off until September. If this falls through I'll consider the new VRS which hopefully gets released next month. But I think it will be crazy price brand new. Saw a Dragon Green on ebay the other day but it didn't last long. Hens Teeth. Nearly 3 weeks though with my current VRS up for sale and only 1 call. Not looking great so far.
  35. I came to my Rapid sport from a JDM Subaru Legacy GT Spec-B (which means Bilstein suspension) on 18s.... believe you me, the Rapid on 17s is a lovely cossetting, smooth, quiet* ride *The "quiet" part may have had something to do with the big Genome exhaust boxes that were on the Scoobie, rather than the wheels and tyres
  36. Yeah but I chose 17s on both of mine based on appearance. I was actually going to have 18s later but my spending priorities changed. It looks like a shopping trolley on 15s.
  37. As a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1988 I have to say that any claim that you can make a live connection/disconnection without generating a spark is probably made by someone who also sells snake oil.
  38. its only slower if you press the button. press the key on your walk up to the tailgate and it will be open for when you get there, saving time and effort 😀
  39. Let's revive this topic with old big wheelie of mine on Gazprom fancy station. Haven't gotten tired of this car, yet.
  40. You’re advised to leave your car in gear when parking anyway, as a belt and braces approach. It has been reported On here before but I was never convinced there was actually an issue, other than people just not properly applying the hand brake. Something I have also been guilty of in the past however it’s happened when I was getting out the car plus it was in gear so no harm done.
  41. Should NEVER have different tyres on different axles. Either fit 4 summer, 4 winter or 4 all season tyres because any combination is dangerous for you, your family and other road users.
  42. Mine has done this quite a few times on my SEL plus reversing camera will not work, heater controls not working. Have To restart the car and things then get back to normal apart from the reminder to update the software every half hour. If you go into the settings it says the software is up to date !!!! Apparently it needs to go into the dealers for an update on their equipment. I will wait for the first service and get it done at the same time. I still enjoy driving the Scala the DSG box is superb, adore the adaptive cruise control as I do a fair amount of motorway driving. Keeping to the speed limits regularly gets me 55+ MPG The electric seats are really comfortable I used crawl out of my last Fabia a aching wreck after 3 hours.
  43. The only time I’ve handled wheel nuts that hot was after a track day in an old bmw... there was an odd knocking as we left the circuit to get fuel. I climbed out of the cage, noticed a wheel bolt, thought, oh that’s dangerous best move it... hot... found two more. An amusing aside, but that much heat, something is binding. Edit, it’s with them now, trust, but don’t accept it back if it’s not right. To hot to handle after 1km is not right at all... unless it was down an alpine pass. fingers crossed for you. Stay safe.

Me & my brother use exclusively Philips LED bulbs in our homes, not had a single failure in over 5 years.
  46. Cills look good mate, my red one also needs it's doing!
  47. Thanks, the gadgets are really good, but i soon disconnected the lane assist, horrible device that immediately becomes annoying. Fine if you sleep at the wheel all the time I suppose!
  48. Been using Tyreleader for years and just buying two 205/55-16s, v rated Avon ZV7s for less than £42 each awesome. Finally bought an electronic tyre gauge from Amazon. Less than £6, very pleased. So many garages trying to RIP off customers that still have 3mm on their tyres.I usually change at 2 to 2.5 mm.Anywhere better to buy than this ? I get ETB to fit and the usually charge a tenner per tyre. Might be good to Buy before BREXIT as car tyres are imported and are likely to more expensive post BREXIT.
