Hi chaps and chapesses, It’s been a while since my last post but I have been trawling the forum to keep up to date. I have a 3.6 superb estate, bought used in 2014 (2010 car) when we moved to Switzerland with work. The car has been brilliant. It’s now on 169,000 kms and running a dream. Just had all oils and filters (gearbox, diffs, engine, fuel) changed, new plugs, cabin filters and summer rims put back on. Oils and annual check I do every 10,000kms but a full service not been looked at since 98000 kms. I had some work done on the timing chain/gearbox at around that time. A plastic chain tensioner ‘failed’ so I replaced everything plus a motronic gearbix issue came to the fore. The saga is on here somewhere. Long story short, after a protracted three year fight I got all my money back from the garage who basically f*cked up diagnosis but had new chains, pulleys, water pump and motronic unit (plus rebuilt gearbox which actually was fine...) for free. Car lives in St Moritiz in Swiss Alps currently. Three years of up to minus 28C to plus 30c temps and metres of snow, it has not missed a beat. The awd system brilliant, passing many teslas and heavy suv’s stuck in snow drifts on my daily 15km commute to work. Only issue is the lowered stance which does mean I carve out channels in the snow at times One failed light unit (60chf - £45?), paint degradation on front roof line (above windscreen - might wrap the car next and change colour...) and a fight with a dear that got trapped between my car and a snow drift (antler scars on paint) are only issues. Twice gearbox has gone into ‘safe mode’ at cold temperatures (minus 25C or colder) but a quick reset (depressed throttle/key black art) resolves the issue. Even auto hatch struts and TV/DAB radio still function perfectly. Speakers in doors a bit tinny though...upgrade at some point. Oh, and driver door pull gone all soft and gooey - new ones from Aliexpress for £12 a pair 👍🏻 The car does regular bi-monthly flights to Toulouse in France and back (covid paperwork done online) which is a 2500km round trip and a delight. Car is hammered as an estate but on the twisties with uprated bilstein struts/springs and brembo discs with greenstuff pads, handles delightfully. Embrack power upgrade (280-300 bhp? Not dynoed) gives more than enough oomph for what I need. 6sp dsg a delight on the paddles. So, leasing long gone (its mine!). Car sublime for the money. Quick, comfortable, spacious and 25/27 mpg still - only gripes is that exhaust still good despite all salt and chemicals around here. I want to ‘upgrade’ to a supersprint or something but only when original exhaust expires... So there you are. The Skoda Superb 3.6 estate. A fantastic car. A good companion to my wife's 2004 Subaru legacy outback (402,000 kms and still going strong). Stay safe people. Dave (Wile7)

Many of you have asked about Lane Assist coding on the 2020 cars and yes it can be done on all of them with the A5 cam which is all specifications above SE-Technology. I’ve finally gotten around to adding it to the Superb. Last pic of it in action is blurry as a passenger took it but you can see it in action there.

Not posted for ages but thought you might be interested to know that I've agreed today to part ex my ĺ&k 280 hatchback. Coming up to 3 years old but less than 13k on clock. Velvet red with cream leather, clean both inside and out. Dealers adamant there are no new l&k's out there but I'm chuffed cos I snagged literally the only brand new sportline 280 in the UK. Comes with loads of expensive options and I got a great deal. Black interior so will be a real change from the old l&k, so excited!

Well I'm still having the odd minor software bug but thought I'd offer some praise for the mk4 vrs as I know the forum is browsed by prospective buyers and it certainly isn't all bad. I'm now just short of 3k miles and enjoyed a spirited drive this evening in sports mode and I must say the vrs tsi is a peach of a motor. Having driven most of the hot hatches on the market I can also say it feels stronger than 245bhp. TCS off and you can feel the diff doing its best however do think it's limited somewhat by the factory supplied tyres. I will be going Michelin Ps4 when the time comes to replace. Anyway I'm very impressed with her and the dsg box. I can do the routine boring commute and take the kids out in comfort and safety but also exploit the chassis and power train when alone in a progressive and more importantly safe manner. Enjoy these cars folks . I'm lucky to be able to own one

I guess i'll use my first post in this thread This is my Octavia, it's my first ever brand new car and i'm mostly happy with it, the cool part is that it's the only car i've seen and because of that it catches people's attention on the street, almost everyone buys the SW version of cars in Portugal and it makes the car version more unique and stand out more in the case of the new Octavia, they really nailed the design (both inside and outside) and i absolutely love it. My only issue with the car so far honestly is the rattles the car developed in the front door panels (seems to be the chrome trim's fault) and a thumping noise coming from the boot which is more noticeable on smooth roads, i think it's the gate itself, i've adjusted the rubber stops to the max and seems to have helped but it still happens. Will take the car to the dealer as soon as i can since i work shifts and it's hard to schedule it. A bit disappointed that a car with only 2000km already has interior rattles but i'm guessing it's "new car" stuff that can be fixed.

OK folks. Now have the Quartz Grey 2.0 TDi and today (Friday) finally got the Towbar fitted. Caravan to be serviced next week and tyres to be changed (over five years old now and with COVID it's been sat in one spot for months) and away the week after. Stress levels have been high the last few weeks so looking forward to the break. Best of luck to those having similar problems. Chris

At a guess, 5C0035680C or 5C0035680E would be the obvious choices but you'll need to deal with component protection... Might be worth seeing if @pab567 has any advice as this is very much his area

Thanks for that.. it won't be here for another 5-6 weeks.. so just planning ahead.. I'm reasonably fussy with regard to washing etc.. but don't know much about all this ceramic stuff.. A good coat of Collinite 476 always did the job for me.. but maybe nowadays there are better options? I see you have a Meteor Grey superb too.. great colour and I'll miss mine when it goes..

Sounds definitely angry above some rpm, but not in a bad way! Is it close to what you wished it would end up sounding? Also, are the valves automatically opening above some rpm? That's how it sounded from your vid. What I mean is, is there just one mode that varies depending on rpm? or you can actually select a comfor and a sport mode?

thats kinda where im looking tbh, under a grand... and after reading some reviews im liking the look of - https://www.mbr.co.uk/reviews/hardtail/voodoo-bizango i figure anything that scores a 10 and only loses marks for not having wider handle bars... well, im a slight 5'6 so and on a quick measure 720mm feels fine for me. getting the cost down on the main bike then give a bit freedom to upgrade a few bits later if i want.

Pre Winter servicing meant turning the airfilter housing or lid so that the intake was to the rear or over the manifold instead of sucking cold / fresh air in as it did in the Summer position.

Anyone know a way to plug the holes in the roof where the roofrack is mounted? I really want to remove the racks but i cant leave those holes.

Finishing touches: Installed the proper DAB/FM/GPS antenna, it looks so much better than the original and miles better than the "tape-in-window" DAB. Added dynamat to the coupefilter housing thingie: Installed a mic to the roof-lining, i found out that there is a mic that can be placed in the coupelight after i done this mod:(

Yeah I've thought about the Audi spring pads (TT MK2 ones from what I remember) just never got round to make up my mind as it would look better 15mm lower front than 10mm higher at the back because it is a mighty big arch gap but the clearance is useful at times. (it is a 4x4 after all )

Been a while since last update, loads have happened both to the car and in life. Removed the headliner according to WillSmithy instructions, was easy enough to do alone. Rolled off the original sound/heat insulation and cleaned off the glue with ISO. Installed dynamat in the roof was also easy, almost no finicky cutting needed to make it fit: Reinstalled the original sound/heat dampening with some double sided tape made for carpentry. My landlord had a sheet of the same material in the garage and i helped myself to some so the roof got full coverage:P Im a thief:(

I just think Lewis applies himself differently which makes him a world beater. He has his haters, but so did Schumi. I’m no fanboy of his but our mothers were best friends at primary school in the 60s. They’re still in touch and Lewis’ mom described how they had absolutely nothing while he was young so a nice story really, not unlike the paid drivers like Mazespin and others which is what is completely wrong with F1 today but like camelspyder says, it’s a business not a sport.

I'll take a look later and see if the climb is on Strava.(not Strava but Mapometer says around about .5 mile and 7-10% ) Probably missed 20 mins on the stats, from somewhere in the tree line on pic on RH side to where it was taken, first climb for a long time I've felt Lactic building up

You are correct in what you say, but just a thought for everyone. I get wrong for thinking like George Orwell’s 1984 but as the Kamiq has its own Sim card will there ever be a time when that is used to log all your driving and in the case of an accident be used in evidence of the crash, pretty much as dash cam footage is being used and asked for by the police “So Mr Smith it appearers that your Lane Assist was turned off how do you plead “ Maybe better to get used to the system and not fight it (just do a lot of indicator use)

With a DSG and no E-brake or 'autohold' if stopped for more than just a short time or in adverse weather etc then do as the Highway Code says. Do not dazzle so select N and apply the Parking brake. With some VW Group cars you need to be aware that Auto hold has the brake lights on. So with a car with Auto hold check if the brake lights do show. If you have a car like that there might be times you want to put on the E-brake if sitting a while rather than having those behind sitting looking at your brake lights. PS. Hillhold Assist is different from Autohold, so stopped and just light brake and the clutches do have you with the clutches working and all good with a DQ200 dsg. Brake applied and car on a slope you have Hill hold assist operating for a couple of seconds as you come off the brake, select drive, release hand / parking brake. Stops the car moving, but this is not Autohold.

After over 18 years of ownership since we bought it new, and 112,000 almost completely trouble-free miles, the time came to move the Octavia on. It was still doing a fantastic job, but it had come to the point that if anything serious (i.e. expensive) went wrong with it I might have had to scrap it, and that would have been heartbreaking. I had not got as far as advertising it when my daughter and her partner mentioned they were considering looking at Octavias. When they found out ours was available we struck a deal very quickly. Before it went I replaced things like engine covers which had been sitting in the garage for a while, and gave it a clean under the bonnet. The deal we had agreed included me keeping the Oz F-1 wheels, and replacing them with something of the same size. A set of VW Santa Monica alloys came up on eBay locally, and after I had given them a good clean and fitted Skoda centre caps I put them on the Octavia. The wheels are not to my taste, but that is kind of the point. Before it went off to its new owner the personal plate was replaced with a 'standard' registration. I never loved the Octavia. It was my partner's car and I always had my own car which I liked better. Having said that, every time I drove it I enjoyed it, even when I had something much faster (Evo VIII) or more flash (RS4). It was a bloody good car, which I never regretted buying, and which I was sad to see go.

No problems with the gearbox on my car either, nice smooth fast gear changing and if you are thinking about a DSG get the paddles on the steering wheel column as it makes manual changing for a quick overtake of a dawdler a breeze.

Yes, when I worked for an automotive consultancy the guys who did the engine management mapping gave a talk on the subject. Basically if you drive gently it will soften the rate of change of fuelling/timing, and vice versa, so the vehicle will 'feel' more like how you are driving it. But it's not set in stone it's all based on a walking window so if you change from one style to another it will gradually 'catch up' with you, but not be affected by brief changes of driver (e.g. when taken to a garage).

I had to disconnect the battery for some remedial work and reconnected. Apart from having to reset the clock the car performed as before with no difference and fuel consumption shown on the display showed no change.

I changed mine for the same issues you're encountering. This Bosch replacement is excellent and still no noise a year later on.

Ignorance - the product knowledge of most car sales people is verging on zero. Modern cars DO learn your driving style, BUT they keep learning it because we don't always drive like a Granny or always drive like Ayrton Senna so they keep adapting to how you've been driving recently it's not 'set in stone' over the first 500-1000 miles.

If that's what you got out of what he said/meant then he's very bad at explaining stuff, talking male bovine faeces, or both. It's more like if you do "driving Miss Daisy" or "Carlos Fandango" techniques, then they exaggerate how you already drive.

Available on AliExpress pretty cheap, get a VW key, remove a badge from yours and that’s all you need to do.

You should have 1x chrome tipped key and 2x black plastic keys. I added the Superb key end. If your car doesn’t have the chrome key you can get one and take the chrome pieces off. The top piece is just stuck on.

My Octavia had 134,000 miles when I sold it so I was more pragmatic about the paint on that one but this is just over a year old and 8000 miles so I’d like it to look as good as it can for as long as it can.

I'm pretty sure that my problem turned out to be the Superb switching off that particular assistance during testing, as while driving over the w/e, I saw something off in the assistance menu and re-enabled it, then found I had power when able to test this eve, so now done. Front working fine - leaving the rear cam till I've watched a few more videos, i think!

Hi all, Thank you guys for replying. Today the noise issue was cured by the local authorized Skoda workshop. The part at fault was some ring that transfer electronic signals to and from the steering wheel, not sure of its proper name. Apparently this ring is at the time not sold as a separate part, so they had to replace the whole unit. It is the same unit that also holds the three stalks for ACC, high beam lights/turn indicators and wipers. Replacement was very nicely executed without any visible damage to the interior trim. The fault is now completely gone and steering is dead silent. Work was done under warranty without any discussion or hesitation whatsoever on behalf of Skoda. Kind regards,
