  1. I've found the Skoda sat-nav preferable to the Google one, which ain't all that, IMO. I find Google sometimes takes me via odd routes which I suspect is using me following an unusual route as a data gathering service to. I used to think Google used different routes because of traffic & roadworks, but having been taken on a route on Friday and finding my right turn Google was telling me (across the A34 dual carriageway) was blocked by roadworks which had been in place for a week or so, I'm now not so sure. In fairness, I've sworn at my Google satnav so much, I would understand if it deliberately led me on longer routes to punish me.
  2. Oh, yes, pragmatix. Over 110, around half since he died. Mind you, some are much, much better than others. And with respect to vegit8, I've never bought a bootleg, neither Zappa's nor anyone else.

Hi fellow karoq owners. Having commented a few times on the subject of kessy, key fobs, and securing my karoq, i can now update you with a little more info. My last visit to the service dept was in January, and as many of you have already stated it was suggested the batteries were the issue. Even though i had fitted new ones b4 taking my car in. Anyway i gave them the benefit of doubt and drove my car away. Now i have recently taken my karoq for its 2nd service. Any issues sir came a question, my reply was yes, locking the car, be sure to have keys in your pocket when working on my car or you may find yourself locked out. Ok thanks for that well take a look. Later that day when i went to collect my car, i was told the drivers door mechanism was faulty and needs replacing (foc of course) . Job now done will see how we go...
  4. There is a simple way to check this. When your car is at a stand, but a cup underneath the drip. Look at the collected liquid. If it is purple/pink, its coolant, if it is clear, then it will probably be condensate. Hell, if you wish to taste test, I think you find it's water (not advised)
  5. Hah... I started writing a longer piece about how session and touring session players get paid and then opted for the ‘one liner’ reply. But as you raised the point... here goes. Those of you old enough to remember may or may not know that the bass line on Lou Reeds classic ‘walk on the wild side’ was written and played by Herbie Flowers. He is a long term family friend and Jacks god father. Herbie got paid £34 for that performance (which was actually double the session fee because he played a double bass and an electric bass which was overdubbed). He got no royalties or residual payments. Lou Reed on the other hand still gets a small payment each time it gets played. Herbie is now in his 80’s and despite playing on over 500 top 100 hits, lives a very simple life. Jack who started performing live at the age of 14, has toured the world for the last 10 years or so with James Bay and James Arthur as well as others. No matter how big a star the artist is the going rate is £250 (less tax and insurance) a day (when you are performing), on non playing days you get a ‘per diem ’ ’ which may be £40 (before tax and insurance) or so. This has to pay for food, laundry expenses, cabs etc. You do not get paid for time taken to ‘learn the songs’ and rarely for rehearsal days. Whilst a performance may be 90 minutes or so, the actual time you are tied up may be as much as 20 hours or more per day. You cannot go home between shows, more often than not you are stuck in a tour bus with 10 or 12 others in very close confinement. The musician is expected to provide his own instruments (including spares in case of failures). Then at the end of the tour you may find your equipment (and your ability to earn an income) stuck in a shipping container on its way back from America. It being too costly for the label to fly it back for you. These days it is the record label who control the finances (and the’ artist’). Record labels are just a small part of an even bigger conglomerate. The artist gets an advance from the label based on potential earnings from (albeit small) physical sales, and income from touring. Playing the biggest venues (stadium gigs) means big money for the label. Thankfully Jack ceased touring and doing live performances at the end of 2019, just before Covid killed any opportunity to earn money. He now works in a recording studio as an engineer and also gets to play and contribute to the writing process. This studio has some big named acts on its books such as James Arthur, Bastille, Rag n Bone Man, The Wombats, James Blunt and so on. As mentioned previously his contributions are now electronically embedded in the end product and there will be a small but ongoing revenue stream for his efforts. As consumers of music I think it is our duty to reward those who entertain us day in day out. If any of you are sufficiently interested in this aspect of the music industry, Jack did a podcast a few years ago where he talks openly and frankly about the perils of being a touring musician... Podcast link I know from personal experience that the road to being at at top of your game in the music industry is a long and hard one. Cheers
  6. Yeah sounds like everything to me, bought mine a couple months ago with 40k mile on the clock and my coil pack messed up the other day putting it into limp mode
  7. I respect that. Good description. Now we have a better image of the entire situation. The best thing you did was changing the gearbox. In order to get full engine power/peak engine performance/good acceleration, the following prerequisites are mandatory: good fuel delivery good engine breathing (both inlet and exhaust) good ignition and ignition timing good valve timing good compression Now, to answer your question, a stuck distributor affects directly the ignition timing, hence the combustion, hence top speed and acceleration.
  8. So when I ordered the Enyaq back in March, the dealer took a gamble on allowing me to do so without committing to an order without a test drive. We've known each other and I've been buying cars from him for 21 years so there's a degree of trust there but still I wasn't sure when I started the test on Satruday night whether I would be happy with the car. After all, I've come from driving a Tesla Model 3 which is supposed to be the best EV out there. So on Saturday I was handed the key to an Enyaq 60 iv, ie the 58 kWh version, so it has a battery that's 11 kWh bigger than my model 3 but it's less efficient. On Saturday evening it was 11 degrees and returned around 3.8 m/kWh on a mix of motorway and A roads. On Sunday it was about 16 and it returned 4.5 m/ kWh (anythign above 4 is pretty good, but the Tesla used to give above 5 as it is a ridiculously efficient car). Bottom line, wow it's a good car. It's a real step up from the ID4 which I tested previously. The infotainment is fast and snappy and the 13 inch screen is really clear. It's not a rocket ship like a model 3 but it's got that noitcable ev punch that makes it feel faster than an ice car. And it's incredibly quiet. Noticeably quieter than the model 3. I only covered around 100 miles so I've not had masses of experience with it yet but the stand out feature for me is the adaptive regeneration. A lot of the reviews have said there's no one pedal driving. But the car reads the road ahead and works out whether it's best to coast or whether you need stronger regen. It works really well. It spots roundabouts and traffic lights and beefs up the regen accordingly. It does the same if there's a speed limit sign. It even spotted a 20mph sign where I was having to go through the central reservation into a contra flow. The car slowed automatically to 20mph. Very impressive. The two annoying features I found were there's no battery percentage, just a miles guesstimate (which seems very accurate thankfully). No matter where you look all you can get is the guesstimated range and a battery graphic showing how many bars of charge you have. And when you're charging it doesn't tell you what kW rate you're getting from the charger, just how many mph are being added. There's an app you can use to tell you this but I didn't set all that up for a test drive. It's bizarre that the sat nav shows you ev chargers and petrol stations though, maybe it's because they always have a shop you might want, or air for your tyres. I mainly used Google maps though. Or waze. I really just tried the car system for completeness. The voice commands were fine when using google but the Skoda ones (aka Laura) were a bit more slow and ponderous. Whereas with google you say "hey google, navigate to X", with the Skoda one you say navigate to X and she says "ok what's the city", then "what's the street" etc. It all worked way better than the system in the Tesla but I think I'll stick with Google unless I'm adjusting the aircon etc. So am I sold? Totally. It's comfy, quiet, has a huge boot and it's smaller than my model 3. It's got a 9m turning circle, close to a London taxi turning ability. My car has had lots of options selected whereas this one had nothing, it's the plain £32k car with zero options. If anyone is looking for a hatch back ev this is well worth a look. The dealer said that the Renault dealer next door remarked that this is just a couple of thousand more than a zoe, and went away looking worried 😂. I'll let you know yes it goes when my actual car arrives and I can play with things like the HUD. And as for the supercharger shot, it was juvenile but we were passing by and.... 😎
  9. In the UK and thinking if going for 2017 SEL Exec Superb 1.4 DSG with alot of miles on it. The cur used to be a company car so it could be well maintained but I am super worried about the gearbox. I keep hearing stuff like that VW came a long way and that the new DQ200 are sealed for life with better reliability ... etc. But I am still worried Any thoughts or ideas?

  12. 6th Service done yesterday at 55000 miles. Oil and filter changed and replaced the cabin filter this time. Bought 20 Litres of oil this time as I have three cars to do that can all use the same oil. Both filters and 20 litres of oil £105.50. Brakes are half worn front and rear and are still the original ones. Will need a pair of tyres before the winter though. Front's only lasting for about 27000 miles. Battery test showed the battery as good as new. Nothing else needed doing. It had it's 3rd MOT last month and again a pass with no advisories. Both service and inspection warning messages reset. Updated the electronic service record again. Fuel consumption for the last two tanks before the service ( brim to brim calculations ) were 59 and 62 MPG in a petrol. Still going well and still like the car. Thanks AG Falco
  13. You'll have to smash it to get the deadlock undone.
  14. Another piece of original police equipment sourced and fitted. It's the steering column mounted PTT (push to talk) button, made by a company called Sepura. Its used in conjuction with a mic and when pushed it allows the driver to speak on the cars police radio. (the mic should also mount on the shroud where the small white square is in the picture) The original mounting holes were still in the steering column shroud and lined up perfectly with my replacement
  15. Thank you so much Nick, much appreciated
  16. Thanks vegit8, I'll pick up Jack's podcast later. Your post deserves a wider audience. Admittedly though I'm speaking as an industry outsider, I've been aware for years of the difficulties experienced by the men (and women) working unseen or unnamed to support the "headline acts" and barely making a decent living, regardless of their own talents as musicians. I've also been aware for many years of the iniquities within the industry - all too often it's the artists actually making the music who are at the end of the queue when the money's being discussed. Sorry, I know you know that. (Although Covid has had its own effects unnoticed by the general public, as witnessed by Nadine Shah's problems reported in the press because of the inability to peform - and there'll be thousands like her. I personally know a former music teacher and like many he also worked independently, he's sung with the Spooky Men's Chorale on their UK tours as well as being a multi-instrumentalist. He left teaching to be a full time musician some five years back and of course Covid brought that to a full stop. I don't play or sing, but there are few things in life as good as watching and hearing people perform live.) I remember Herbie Flowers from whe he formed Sky with John Williams. Their first LP was part of my collection when I sold it all a couple of years ago.
  17. Just to confirm, problem solved, engine heated up and still on 750 revs .....

The 280 horse is bloody thirsty, I've been driving it in eco mode since I've bought it but the fuel consumption isn't that great, I'm going to try it in normal mode ,than sport than individual see what difference does it makes. Here is some of my driving data in eco mode.not really impressed
  19. Honestly felt sooo stupid!!
  20. How does this soot get to the valve if there's no gas flow because the valve is closed?
  21. The scan results you have posted look like they have come from a generic scanner rather than VAG-COM or VCDS which are VAG specific. For info I've pasted part of the VCDS scan from my Touran which had an ABS Sensor failure a few weeks ago. My Touran doesn't have Front Assist or TPMS but the dashboard warning lights were on for ABS, ESC and Steering - all functions that require working ABS sensors. The above VCDS scan clearly shows the faults logged. It also shows an Auto Trans (DSG) fault - this was a side effect of the ABS sensor initially intermittently failing which upset the DSG software, and the VCDS scan for the Auto Trans points to the ABS controller as the source of the problem.
  22. That was the "old world" though. We have had a global pandemic and Brexit since then. Don't forget that the EU are going to be making an example of the UK to the rest of the EU to make sure no other country in the EU tries to do the same thing. Many things have increased massively (and even doubled in price in some cases) in the UK since. Just look at wood for example for building projects and the price of 2nd hand cars. Good luck trying to get your usual EU mix of lovelies from the likes of Aldi and Lidl too (XXL Snitzel packs at Lidl being a long distant happy memory). We can (at the end of year 3) all vote with our feet I guess and use the indy network but now they are making it almost impossible to use them too because of the cost of VAS alternatives and the locking down of the controllers. Welcome to 2021/22 :-(
  23. The issue with the MIB1 Amundsen from 2021 onwards is that Skoda (and VW) have stopped issuing map updates for them as they went out of production more than 5 years ago, so OP will be stuck with the 2020/21 maps with no updates available,
  24. Tinted windows, front and rear. The sun in Spain roasted my baby. Maybe darker than she wanted.
  25. Hi all, I've recently purchased a 2011 Fabia Mk2. It's a 1.2 TSI (CBZB), Manual. Basic maintenance was done to the car however nothing more than that, need your help what to immediately refresh. This is what I have so far, I'd love some more advice from your experience: All filters - Oil, air, cabin, fuel All liquids - Coolant, engine oil, brake (&clutch) oil, gearbox oil, power steering Throttle cleaning Spark plugs Ignition wires & coil look good, gonna buy both just in case but not replace for now. Both thermostats, should I replace them as a preventive measure or just wait for them to die? Did I miss anything? Any tips would be greatly appreciated Thanks!

I got one for my yeti though Europarts. Good service and a lot cheaper than buying in Aus and genuine part. See photo same part number different letters at the end. I got it fitted by a Skoda dealer. They told me they would not fit anything aftermarket so must be the real deal.
  27. It's probably just a "hand holding" thing. I also keep a paper road atlas in the car should all technology fail! I only tend to use Tw*t nav for driving into areas that I'm not familiar with and cities (seldom). However I still prefer Google Maps or Waze over the built-in system.
  28. I would advise getting the vehicle scanned to identify more precisely what the root cause is. I would be tempted to suggest it may be caused by an ABS Sensor problem; ABS light is on, ESC can't function if the ABS is not working so ESC light is on, TPMS use ABS sensors to determine if the wheels rotation speed differs from other wheels - can't function if ABS is not working so TPMS light is on. Front Assist and Stop Start are reports not warnings; Stop Start is most likely low battery voltage/charge. The battery is 5 years old - our Fabia hasn't had working SS for the last 2 years - replaced the battery and hey presto SS is working again. Front assist I'm not sure but its possible that its disabled because of the ABS error message - Front Assist will apply the brakes to stop the car - without ABS this could be dangerous.
  29. Don't know where you get your inspection service but mine is not going to be £99 in 2 weeks!! More like: That's my second service (the inspection service). Even without the Oil and Pollen filter that's £200 odd. :-)

What number are you using? 5K0953569E brings back loads on both eBay and Aliexpress... edit: It might be worth reconnecting it and get a scan with VCDS or similar. This is for two reasons: - to confirm the SW part number - to backup the existing coding This is the module from my old Octavia, it shares the same HW part number as your Yeti but I expect the SW is different Address 16: Steering wheel (J527) Labels: 5K0-953-569.clb Part No SW: 5K0 953 521 BN HW: 5K0 953 569 E Component: LENKS.MODUL 014 0140
  32. Air con doing its job no need to worry 👍
  33. Yes, read the fault codes and find out what the car reports the fault as being, instead of guessing.
  34. He doesnt, but he has already made several "yield or crash" moves on Hamilton this year. If Max just gets on with driving the clearly fastest car of the year and not taking excess risks, he'll romp to the title. As it is, he cant afford another 30 point swing by needlessly colliding with the opposition when he could have backed out, like Hamilton did earlier in the lap when Max came up the inside like a missile.
  35. I had to access the fusebox recently to hard wire my dash cam. Open the glovebox and locate the clip in the left side. Pull this towards you to unlock. Once unlocked, find the two tabs and push them up and the glove box will drop. Once complete, push the glovebox back up and push the clip back to lock.
  36. Lots of members move in and out of Skoda's but remember Briskoda is about more than just Skoda's...
  37. Many of us have moved on from Skoda's but still lurk. Welcome to the ex-Skoda lurkerhood Dave Gaz
  38. Genuine part 06H 103 495 AH would be the correct part. But per other threads on these forums there are 2 simultaneous part streams for this part for this engine depending on original mfr date. Based on my 2011 (now sold) my replacement was AJ having replaced the original part H. But, for febi do they actually manufacture 2 versions or have they just merged into one part on basis that the bolts and part outline is the same? I have replied to quite a few threads where people have had problems with pattern chinese parts and also aftermarket branded manufactured parts. [Edit: Are you sure your car had a genuine part 06H 103 495A fitted. I don't ever recall seeing that as a fittment on the skoda CCZA, the part would of been E from my reckoning if original, genuine.] Put the original back in, make sure it runs normally, and if so I would replace with a genuine part. They are a 5 or 6 year replacement part.
  39. I got this brand new Steel Grey beauty on Friday. vRS TDI 4x4 Combi I’ts a bit more powerful than my previous Fabia 1.0 TSI 110 DSG Combi also in Steel Grey… I went to dealership to order FWD vRS TDI on Monday. Salesman said delivery time for FWD vRS TDI here in Finland is 4months. Too long for a ADHD person like me. So bought this from the dealership floor. Yes, this 4x4 with lot’s of extras was waaaay more expensive but we only live once
  40. It is gone, All sorted. Money is in my account. Thanks mate
  41. i routed my front USB port to inside the center armrest console storage so i could connect/store my AAWireless device nicely under mat. i had initial plans to get a USB hub so i can add a second USB port into the blank/dummy plate in there. one day......

This is like the question "Do you buy tea cups with the handle on the right or on the left?"
  43. Yesterday, I washed the car for the first time in two months. Today, it takes me about 10 minutes to stand up straight. Yesterday, I filled it with petrol. It was 10 months since my last visit to a petrol pump. It was the most expensive tank ever: £93.61 for 62.87 litres of premium unleaded. 28.7 mpg on my last tankful. I blame evaporation and city driving. Yesterday, I drove to Dungeness with four in the car. Two hours each way. Today, it takes me about 10 minutes to stand up straight. We had the beach to ourselves and the fish'n'chips was excellent. Car ran great. 4.5 year old battery fired right up.
  44. You don't have to format the card. Just back up the old data, delete the old files & copy the new one's onto it. Plenty of info available in this forum on how to download the files & unzip them to the card.
  45. Hi folks, please forgive me if I waffle on but thought I’d create a post following an extremely positive experience with a detailer I’ve just used. Having had cars detailed previously by others and suffering a level of OCD when it comes to looking after my car, I can’t tell you how chuffed I am with Advance detail. I contacted Jon at Advance after noticing a few little bits on the car with it now being little over two years old. The car itself was owned by Auric Goldfinger, a very active member on here and it’s clearly been cherished. Over the years unavoidable minor marks have been inflicted from washing, the gloss b pillars have inevitably marked and a good general decontamination was needed after going through the dealer used car prep. The car was booked in and within a few weeks Jon was able to get me in for a silver detail which was then protected with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra, something only available through the accredited network. In my opinion Jon and his colleague Luke have done a fantastic job and I hope my pictures do it justice. The paintwork looks like new, the panels feel like glass, the beading is fantastic and he’s even added Paint protection film to delicate areas. I want to make it clear I’ve not received a discount on this process and I’m in no way linked to Advance detail. I honestly think that when someone does something just right that you pay for it’s worth the recognition. If nothing else hopefully you like the pictures, if my review helps one person who’s on the fence of what to get done or where to go then that just a bonus. All the best folks.
