It would have the opposite effect, thermostat will only open when the coolant reaches the thermostats opening temperature, if you want the coolant to warm up quicker you do not take heat from the system.
  2. I know it feels like UK, being such a small land mass, population and small percentage of global emissions, doing stuff wouldn't matter. But if every nation thinks this way, every person don't care what we leave to the next generation, would we see any progress? Besides, it doesn't matter if UK bans sale of pure ICE in 2030, this is bigger than UK. Here are list of all the nations that have plans to ban different level of hybrid cars in 2020-2040. There is no way for this small nation to continue function if the EV infrastructure doesn't catch up while supply of fossil fuel vehicles dry up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-out_of_fossil_fuel_vehicles#Countries Change is indeed very difficult. but it's not the reason to give up. The more pure EV's on the road and plugged in when parked, the faster we (human) reach climate change goals. EV's pollute less as it ages because electrical grid gets cleaned up, smart charging EV's are a valuable asset to allow higher renewable utilisation. I've said this many times, EV batteries are part of renewable solution. Just need to change the mindset of central location refueling.
  3. I think your radiator fan has a broken low speed. I can take you through a test using a wire link, once I've finished my sausages and mash.
  4. Just a quick update for anyone arriving at this topic at a later date. My car has been through the Skoda garage twice since the battery change. for an annual service & brake change & there were no complaints or comments from the dealer about DTCs or requests for battery recoding. So I'd say, if you change like for like the software will "learn" quickly the new behaviour of the battery & doesn't cause any problems.
  5. Nope, we do drive through red light but with caution. The speed I was referring to applied to all other scenarios.
  6. Was the battery adaptation coding carried out after the new battery was installed, by the shop? If not, ur car will still think the old battery is still there, and treat it like the old one.... literally.
  7. I wouldn't buy that, the mileage is too low and the number plate's obviously been tampered with!
  8. I see that the firmware file is now available on MIB solution under MOI3 so everybody can freely download it there. 😎 Use guest twice to log in.
  9. No, it's not. You were bad luck to get a car with something broken, and dealership couldn't fix it. That's it. Yes, there were quite many issues with O4, but mostly software related and fixed now. There are cases, where software upgrades do not fix the problems, but those are rare and are not related to platform as such.
  10. Photograph the aux belt routing, then take it off and run the engine briefly from cold without it. See if noise is still present. I suspect it may not be. Coolant won't be circulating, so don't run it for more than a minute or two.
  11. There’s no connection between the auto gearbox and the brake fluid , you need to do some more testing (braking while stationary hard) to see if any leaks appear
  12. No. The EPC light can indicate any of a vast range of issues, from about £50 to £4_000, and we'd need the associated fault code(s) to know which.
  13. Thanks a lot for replying - it's put my mind at rest! I've read so many posts on various forums where the advice is not to get a car serviced at the dealership once it's out of warranty as you pay extortionate prices. I was therefore surprised when this VW specialist quoted only £25 cheaper than Skoda, so I just wanted to check that I'm not getting ripped off. Maybe Skoda aren't as greedy as other car dealerships. Anyway, thanks for the information and advice, which I'll take forward with me. The Octavia is a really great car - ticks all the boxes - and I can easily see myself keeping it for a few years now. Perhaps I should learn a few DIY jobs myself, such as changing the oil. Anyway, thanks again for your help. Best of luck with your car and your 200,000 mile journey together.
  14. Got my car last week, it’s 1900. It crashed on day two so it’s already going into the dealer for an update (I’m aware I can do this myself but I want to register the fact it’s f*cked up already. Plus it has scratches on the boot lid🤦🏻‍♂️)
  15. @Graham Butcher Low Emission Zones where paying £12.50 allows the vehicles the freedom to drive regardless of the emissions that is the money raiser & a p!ss take.
  16. Looking at the data it would certainly seem that these clean air zones are indeed more to do with raising revenue than cleaning air which is already considered by WHO as clean and safe.
  17. Yeah you need to leave both keys. Sorry should have said that.
  18. That depends on the forum member If they have genuine VCP then I'd hope it would include the correct parameter files for an Octavia. If they have ODIS with an online connection, they might be knowledgeable enough to find the correct datasets direct from VAG. If they have ODIS without an online connection, you're reliant on them having found the correct datasets via other methods. If you have a VAS5054a or similar, it might be possible for someone to perform the parameterisation for you remotely. There are a few datasets on MIB solution but it's not clear if any are for an Octavia although they match the part number and SW installed on my folding door mirrors. It might be worth contacting https://www.vagcarcoding.com/ or https://www.vagcodingspecialist.co.uk/ both are London based so might be close enough to you. 19. Latest update on my ongoing problem. The car was into the Main Dealer today. I had a phone call from Skoda head office technical. They have already contacted the dealer to tell them what they have to do. Recode the infotainment control unit. Recode the telematics control unit. Recode the keys. Then set primary user. They have done what the Technical people have told them. Hey Presto all is now well. Why they could not have done this at the previous attempts is beyond me. I think that because head office technical was in constant touch with me made all the difference. So Simon Harper that seems to be the way to go - head office technical!
  20. A youtube video link popped up in my suggestions this morning, and I think it shows a couple of things worth highlighting. Here's the link: https://youtu.be/lJv7MSWNUUY I took a screenshot at one point, as it's the clearest illustration of the primary leak path that I've ever seen. Unfortunately, although he seals all the way around the perimeter, he leaves in place the black plastic lock bracket which was the cause of the problem. Here's the screenshot showing super-clearly the water witness marks running down from where that plastic bracket is attached: At about 8 mins he refits the panel with this bracket still uselessly in place, ready to resume channeling water onto the carrier. It broke off the lock, you may as well completely remove it and block the three plastic rivet holes with waterproof tape! That way the water dripping down there will drop harmlessly straight to the drain holes at the bottom of the door, instead of being directed onto the panel. The only purpose of that bracket is so you can remove or install the door lock with the carrier panel if you need/want to. Once it's broken off the lock it's 100% liability, no point in having it there.
  21. Hello Christian, welcome aboard Gaz
  22. This advice is useless. Please learn how the EGR of an 1.8 TSI works before giving wrong advice...
  23. It could be that the bearing incorporated in the new slave cylinder is a bit latchety, it will either quieten down or get worse, all you can do is keep an eye on it. I cant think of anything else that could be rattling but do look at where the metal pipe comes through the hole in the bellhousing, any movement there might cause a rattle, it has the mass of the bleed block hanging off it in free air.
  24. Hello Everyone, Now one full month and 3800 k since the update Except for the 2 (unusual) restarts when trying to zoom in on the map while 4+ hrs into a drive, I haven't had any other restart. Cannot tell in all fairness if the system is more responsive, as reported by other users here, but, overall, looks and feels stable Thanks again to the OP for this update (that unfortunately Skoda is unable to push consistently) It is a shame that nowadays it has become norm that software is released un-optimized and pooly tested, leaving it to us, consumers, to be the Guinea pigs and the "de facto" beta testers for the suppliers.
  25. We are on the way to stop installing gas boilers in place of much more efficient heat pumps. The air in London underground system is indeed appalling. But at the same time, there's no alternative to a mass transit system to move this amount of people in such a compacted city. Personal transport is never sustainable in the city. At very least, the poor air quality in the tubes are by personal choice. I can choose not to take my young children. Whereas I have no say to non-ULEZ compliant cars outside my neighbourhood...... until ULEZ expansion. The EV transition is less about local air pollution, more about reducing our (human) impact on the climate by enabling us to transition to sustainable renewable energy sources. Regarding the transport ship fire. Let's remember the stats and source of problem: https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/ocean-shippers-playing-catch-up-electric-vehicle-fire-risk-2023-07-27/
  26. Mine dont seem to have gotten any worse, like any scab it's not a good idea to pick at them. Zinc Inclusions that is!
  27. The air quality is very clean where it is very clean, not where it is not. Head for thinking feet for dancing and nose and mouth for breathing. The UK is an island nation / nations, the air should be clean. It should stay clean. http://scottishairquality.scot http://scottishairquality.scot/latest Scotland. http://tfn.scot/lists/the-most-polluted-streets-in-scotland Re EV fires, Just last Friday my cousin was telling me that an A&E nurse she was talking to was on about the horrific injuries and deaths from accidents involving EV,s. I asked, where and when these accidents were happening and why is there no media coverage on them. My cousin seems to want to believe the nurse more than me checking the social media and global media. What i do know is how many Stagecoach busses have been catching fire in Scotland and elsewhere around the UK. (use a search engine 'Stagecoach bus fires' It looks like no deaths of life changing injuries luckily.
  28. I really don't think that switching to EV's is all it's been cracked up to be and I really cannot help but think that we are all being sold yet another pup just diesel. It was the supposed to be the wonder fuel and we were urged to switch from petrol/gasoline over to it and now it seems its bad and dirty. The air quality in the UK is very clean, as can be seen by playing around with the interactive live map on this site, Air Pollution in World: Real-time Air Quality Index Visual Map (aqicn.org) This is video is also worth watching.
  29. China is by far the most important country in the world and it is looking like they have peaked in CO2 output. As they do not have their own oil and gas they are rapidly deploying solar and wind farms. They use coal a lot but such is the rollout of solar and wind, and battery storage, coal will not be needed so much towards the end of this decade. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/12/economy/china-carbon-emissions-record-intl-hnk/index.html China is also making electric cars that are now cheaper to buy and run over their life time, such as the MG4 and Maxis vans, that more and more people and companies over the world are running EVs rather than ICE vehicles. The Biden-Harris $20B projects are reducing use of hydrogcarbons massively https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/07/14/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-launches-historic-20-billion-competition-to-catalyze-investment-in-clean-energy-projects-and-tackle-the-climate-crisis/. Australia is under going a massive change for coal power stations to renewable which means half priced electricity, very nice..... Price of solar panels and home installed batteries becoming cheaper and cheaper so people can pay even less to the those UK suppliers who fleece their customers. I am with Octopus and happy with them and my day price should drop from 40p to 30p per kwh but night rate up from 7.5 to 9.5p per kwh, all renewable sourced of course. North Sea will soon be one huge wind farm making more electricity than Northern Europe can use at sometimes so more storage is being rolled out to with GWh batteries planned for Old Trafford and several other similar plants..... https://www.edie.net/plans-approved-for-worlds-largest-battery-storage-scheme-in-manchester/ . The UK rollout of renewables and energy storage is happening despite the UK government's lack of help as the rollout is a technical and economically better way forward for energy companies as well as individuals.
  30. Never driven an A3 but I have had two Corolla Hybrid hire cars, one a hatch the other an estate. I was pleasantly surprised how nice they were and would seriously consider replacing the wife's Octavia with a Corolla estate when the time comes. After the Octavia I found the Corolla hatch to have relatively little boot space, although others will be more than happy with the boot space of the hatch.
  31. A press is a good way to destroy this (Gen2) type of bearing/hub combination during fitment. That's why these fitting kits exist, so that you can push on the outer, rather than the inner which you would be if the press were applied to the hub part. Fortunately your Yeti uses bolt-in front bearing assemblies, so no such faffing about is required, these being the original fitment and current, supersession part numbers: GENUINE VW AUDI SEAT SKODA FRONT WHEEL BEARING 3 STUD 1K0498621 5K0498621A -NEW | eBay

  34. After all said above my lad is buying a Clio ETECH techno spec from our local dealer that I bought my Arkana and Zoe from. Also after my misgivings about getting a car with the hybrid system with such as small ie 1.2 kwh battery and a 95 hp naturally aspirated 1.6 litre internal combustion engine by all I can say now, having tried one, it bloody works. Car feels like an EV round town with the ICE only kicking in very occasionally and then a quite nice rorty worble kicks in, with the ETECH 50 hp or so to give both a healthy kick up the pants leaving the low speed restrictions. We will take 70 mpg or so and with a CO2 of some 93 grams per kilometer it is a bit below the EU level of 96 gm per km and we will still use the Zoe for some short journeys and the CLio etech for medium length journeys and the Arkana for the long motorway journeys. Less miles in the Zoe in deep winter when fossil fuel cars seem to make more sense due to EV cold weather range and "spare" heat in the ICE cars. Between lad and me we will be doing around 36k miles across the cars so balancing that for the PCPs is the art. A good video below of how it felt....... Expect the Clio, Arkana, Captur will all go for the 1 or 1.2 litre tce engine to match with the etech system next year. With Ryan Reynolds investing a couple of hundred million in Alpine maybe there is hope for at least one European HQ car company in the Chinese/TESLA onslaught.
  35. Safety made the 6.5 mile journey to the skoda dealer and my cars now with them.
  36. My thoughts exactly. Must be transport by train to the port what has caused the contamination. I asked the dealer about it but they shrugged and said "it could be anything - who knows". Their loss, they lost my future businesses with them..
  37. I'd think that it will be quite easy to work out why that fuel rail has ended up being bent, that garage is sensibly playing safe, understand that very high pressure fuel was in that fuel rail when that bolt head popped off so that left that end of the fuel rail unsupported with with high pressure fuel forcing it up and off the injector nearest that now broken bolt, and only supported at the next along bolt.
  38. Hello Mikke, that is a very disappointing pre-delivery inspection.
  39. If you're happy with it and can afford it, go for it See if you can get a decent warranty with it too
  40. Sadly not, although Google Maps does so I'm not surprised that Apple Maps does too. I would really like it if I could get Waze (or Google Maps) to display the whole map etc in the VC the way the built-in satnav can. Then we could use the Infotainment screen to choose music and keep navigation directly in front of me. If the built-in SatNav was any good, I'd probably use it just because of that, but of all the navigation options I have (that plus Waze, Google and Apple) it's the least good, so I don't.
  41. Correct but I'm sure @carefree didn't mean anything but that for red lights

I take it that you gave them your dashcam footage as well, with that they can't fail to agree that the other driver was to blame for the accident, anyone who has not got themselves one really should reconsider getting one in their car, especially with the rising cost of premiums these days.

Got this back from my insurers Claim Update: Based on a detailed review of your claim and the information you have provided, we believe that you were not responsible for the accident. We've sent our views to the other insurer and will update you once we receive their response.

Every other manufacturer with start/stop or AGM batteries requires adapting a new battery. Everything from Land Rover to Hyundai. Do people do it every time? Nope. some it’s done by a combination of buttons on the dash, others by diagnostic tool. Coolant/anti freeze whatever you want to call it, you are correct it is made up of 2 components - water which actually has the heat transfer abilities and then the additive which contains the anti freeze, rust inhibitors, lubricants, colouring and bitrex. The silicat bag is there to slowly deposit the additives back into the coolant mix to extend the coolant life in some cases to 15 years! Without the silicat bag and using the new coolant g12evo you can expect coolant to last easily 10 years. Whereas old coolants contained acids and needed replacing a lot more often. And what you say about customers and staff in dealers being brainwashed is spot on - a lot of the time the staff will push a sale without actually knowing if it’s what people require, simply because they are told to push it
  45. 1 point
The bag is there to increase the service life of the genuine coolant, it will still function without it there, just means it will need changing earlier (based on testing the coolant first of course) No one has said fitting a new battery won’t work without adaptions - but they are there for a reason and that reason is charging profiles, start stop control, battery capacity management. Basically it is used to keep the agm battery charged properly and also to allow the start stop to work at its best, seems you think the people that designed the car are more on a mission to get you than to actually correctly fix the car with their procedures. Ive seen many a coolant bottle split so just keep that in mind - a 2 year warranty does little to help when you are stuck at the side of the road with no coolant
  46. There are moulded in "cracks" which pass through the whole width of the coupling and split it circumferentialy so that probably only about 45° out of 360° is attached, this is how the outside mass with the heavy annulus is decoupled from the drivetrain and how it absorbs the vibrations. Even were it to detach whilst it would make a lot of clanging and no doubt alert any driver with a pulse well before it would not affect the couplings ability to transfer the drive torque.
  47. Škoda dealerships sell insulated mugs that fit the cupholders. There's also these... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371803153752?fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda&hash=item569131e558:g:xSgAAOSwiONYPz0w&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoPqcmsd0opHfRRMP%2Fj7yL%2Bdda3S994Nl40y3vqN06zic2YrJKIY%2BSH4zBWe67ykAjIme%2FcVQNvEXWa0RlUDLKpEpQCohknJGW3zzTBZ3W2gEm0YDNGPC11bA0ENTFSEP%2Bp1Xhz2YWZqtwEWFy0LeKZxs26POWuu2RUzcFzSym%2FtmO8i%2FBcV2xM8e6KVju48BwZWMzdgbtJI%2FhxfHzegzJMU%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR56NysWaYQ
