New here and to Skoda.
Hi, earlier this year I bought an Octavia VRS Mk2 estate. I was looking for a practical car with a towbar to take motorbikes to events as I didn't want a van. After keeping a very open mind, I had narrowed down the search to the VRS or a Superb 3.6. As the VRS was local, had a towbar, was nice enough condition I decided to buy the first car I viewed. I'm very happy with this car and will do a thread on what I have done and plans for the future.

2010 Octavia VRS DSG £900 [WIP]
Hi, I'll be adding more info and pics etc as I get them sorted (plus service history as much as I can find). Make & Model: Skoda Octavia VRS 2010 TFSI DSG Colour: Mileage: 146,000 (and increasing) Price: £900 ono (quick sale preferred) Description: Chain tensioner and turbo done around 2019 (lacking receipts for this). I've been driving this around for the last year or so with some kind of gearbox/differential bearing issue. had a light bump in july 2025 - bumper repaired to a professional standard. Let's start with the issues (in order of severity) Gearbox or differential bearing is making noise - you also get weird vibration/noise at between 2600 and 3000 rpm. slight misfire whilst the engine is cold with idle/very light throttle - problem is less pronounced in DSG manual mode. Car has been known to stall when braking once every few months (releasing brake and re-applying quickly stops it stalling). Rear driver's side window - motor sound but not moving (suspect snapped cable). Aside from these issues I think it's fairly sound. Condition: Poor Service History/Receipts/Recent Service work: Just MOT'd STILL WIP as I gather receipts Pre2019 - Looking for books - should have FSH 2019: (a lot of tyre swapping going on, potholes etc thus a lot of wheel alignment). uncertain date - Chain and Tensioner, Turbo, HPFP (used). 24/01/2019 - 115,083 miles - 4 wheel alignment 25/07/2019 - 116,697 miles - 4 wheel alignment + aircon regas 15/11/2019 - 118,536 miles - 4 wheel alignment 2020: front shocks (missing receipt) 03/12/2020 - 120,802 miles - regas and leak fix 2021: 28/05/2021 - 121,505 miles - oil change, rear shocks and all springs 11/06/2021 - 122,073 miles - bearing and ABS Sensor, also front shock. 29/06/2021 - 122,243 miles - tyre replacement injectors? (parts receipt only but I commented on a thread here when it was done). 11/10/2021 - 123,495 miles - MOT and bulbs 2022: 05/04/2022 - 125,477 miles - oil, filter, plugs 30/09/2022 - 127, 420 miles - MOT, oil, filter, brake fluid check 2023: 02/10/2023 - 130,825 miles - MOT, oil and filter 2024: oil change date TBC (receipt for parts only) 08/10/2024 - 1389,696 miles - MOT 2025: oil change just before this 20/08/2025 - 140,912 miles - new spark plugs late 2025 - Front driver's side wheel bearing (part receipt only) 2026: oil change - date/approx mileage TBC (receipt for parts only) Extras: DSG paddles? Mods: Stock - but the alloys are repainted in dark grey Collection: Yes Pictures: To attach

Digital cockpit.
This link is to a set of Skoda Fabia Mk4 tutorial videos, including one for the "Virtual Cockpit" (VC) https://www.skoda-auto.com/services/new-fabia-videos The specific VC video is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4-6j3XseEM A traditional pair of circular dials (rpm and speed) is possible (example below) plus many other variations. The Virtual Cockpit has a 10.25" dimension and a 2025 Fabia could have an 8" or 9" infotainment system (touchscreen). My understanding is that inbuilt 'navigation' is only available with the 9" touchscreen, but that should not prevent separate circular rpm and speed dials being displayed (as shown above) if the car has an 8" touchscreen. My 2024 Fabia came with a hardcopy (paper) Owner's Manual booklet - about 150 pages - that includes 'essential' advice for a new owner. That information is copied into a much more comprehensive (and less handy!) online manual that can be accessed through this webpage. https://www.skoda.co.uk/apps/manuals/Models

High-pitched whining noise from the engine bay – Octavia iV
Hi everyone, I have a 2023 Octavia RS iV and I've noticed a high-pitched whining noise coming from the engine bay when the petrol engine is running. I can hear it both when the car is stationary and while driving. The noise has an “eeee” sound to it and seems to increase in pitch. I've attached a video recorded from outside the car. Has anyone experienced a similar noise on their Octavia iV or RS iV? Is this normal, or could it indicate a problem with a component in the engine bay? Any ideas would be appreciated. Simply So Clever
I heard an interesting one! My B-i-L got a nearly new Sportline Karoq a few months ago. He called me the other day to say his mirrors had suddenly gone 'dark' for a while. I queried whether it was just the internal one but he confirmed it was the external ones as well! Now I'd never heard of external light sensitive mirrors but some googling revealed that some Karoq's do have them. More research indicated that the internal mirror assembly has a rear facing and a forward facing light sensor. If the rear facing one detects its much brighter than the front, then it electrically dims the mirrors!. So why did his do it? Well the sun was reasonably bright at the time but not significantly more bright from the rear. We think we found the reason in the end though!. He had adjusted the cable going from his satnav and we guess that the inline choke module on the cable was blocking light to the front facing sensor!. He's since moved it and it hasn't happened again...

What have you done to your Superb III today?
The rubber stoppers at the end of the wiper(either OEM or Bosch) weren't glued. Turn the wiper upside down, so the rubber part faces you, then using a small screwdriver carefully lift the metal clips holding the plastic stopper. In the same time try to wiggle and pull the plastic stopper. Don't use much force when lifting the metal clips with the screwdriver, but you may need when pulling the stopper because it's usually stuck from the accumulated dirt. Both Bosch and OEM had different type of plastic stoppers, but when you wiggle the specific stopper a little and push and pull gently, you'll see what blocks the stopper to be removed and so which parts need to be lifted.

Dashcams on Elroq
For the rear-facing camera, did you get the one which plugs directly into the side of the dashcam, or the one which is stuck to the tailgate window with a cable run to the main dashcam? If you got the one which is stuck to the tailgate window, did they do a tidy job with the cable, or is there a big cable loop hanging down between the tailgate and the roof liner?

Head Unit not starting up
Update: OK there seems to be a bit of life left 🤒 buttons have their illumination at night power button causes the backlight to glow faintly (screen still black) little later, the animated logo displays ... ... then shuts down completely will repeat with further presses I'll give it a clean with my can of air, but further information or suggestions greatly appreciated. PS. dirt seems to be coming from a defective exhaust gas temperature sensor. I can get a spanner on it (i.6 has a bit of elbow room) but it isn't budging -- Is it easier to replace that bit of exhaust pipe?

Porucha snimac polohy vack/klik hridele G40
@defsix I replaced the camshaft sensor with a new original part from Skoda and after warming up the engine above 80 degrees, a strange sound came again and the engine light came on. So I don't know what to do next. I'll have the wiring checked and see

The fact you unplugged the cam sensor and the sound went away is your biggest clue.

1.5 TSI E-tec (MHEV) 12V battery issues
That's good news, mine is a 24 pre-facelift model! I have just 'Googled' the problem and the first response suggests that itis the KESSY system being activated by moving keys thus draining the 12v battery. Apparently leaving doors/ bonnet and/ or boot open whilst cleaning and polishing can also significantly drain the battery !

AUTODOC, eBay, Amazon, or any specialty stores where do you usually have fewer issues finding the right fit?
Hi Lee, Thanks for sharing your thoughts! You’re right that checking compatibility is important, as even cars built on the same platform can have differences in parts and specifications. The vehicle selection tool is there to make finding the right parts easier, but sometimes it’s worth double-checking details like engine codes, brake disc sizes, and chassis versions before ordering. This isn’t unique to AUTODOC, as fitment data

Code out Lane assist on a 2026 se Edition
I did it on my 2023 VW UP using OBDEleven. The car has a physical lane assist button on the dash. The car now remembers the last mode it was in. So it is left in the off position, but I can turn it on if needed. ( for the MOT ) Thanks. AG Falco

DataPlug app (trip log & refuel detection) – looking for Android testers
Hi all, Does anyone still have a Škoda DataPlug? I’ve made an Android app that uses the DataPlug to log trips and trip data and to detect refuelling automatically. All data is stored locally on your phone, with no account and no cloud. I’m looking for testers for a closed test on Google Play. It runs for at least 14 days. You’ll need a DataPlug and a phone with Android 8.0 or newer. If you’d like to help, please fill in this short form: [LINK] Thanks! Admin note; Briskoda, www.briskoda.net nor the site owner will be held liable for any loss of your data nor will the aforementioned be liable for any malfunction of your mobile devices in the event you go ahead with this app. Outside links are opened at your own risk.

2011 Octavia 2.0TDI 140 CFHC Fuel Filter Confusion
Hi Alasdair, Yes the issue is my canisters part number doesn’t seem to be listed. when you look at the info on the filters especially after market filters they usually say this filter will fit x canister etc hence the confusion as Pete checked my vin which shows a completely different canister part number.

SOS error call workshop
This thread has been helpful, unfortunately the holding down the red button trick has stopped working in my 2020 Karoq. I went into the local platinum dealership garage today and they were less than helpful. In fact I felt like they didn’t believe me and I was very surprised they had never heard of the problem! My husband had a kamiq with the same issue which was resolved with software update, but when I asked them about this they didn’t even know what software update that could be!! It’s booked in, but I can’t say I have any faith in them after their attitude today. I’m going to write down all the possible solutions offered here to present to them!
