  1. Vehicle excise duty is set by politicians. Logic and consistency should not be expected.
  2. That’s a shame. Here’s a photo of mine. Admittedly in the day time but you can see the led light there lit up
  3. Timing, tick a tick a tick a timing. Started to save up for the £20 a year to be introduced from my Zoe in 2025. If I save 20p a week should have enough in 2 years time. Arkana is £170 as I think I get £10 a year off as a hybrid. My Jag Type S was over £500 a year even though it could do over 40 mpg with it quite efficient 2.5l V6 mondeo engine. There is little logic to it.
  4. There are three options for TSR changed by setting Road sign detection fusion mode in A5: - Electronic horizon which only uses satnav data - Sign recognition which only uses camera data - Fusion which combines the two, this is the factory default When the camera does pick up a speed limit sign, that'll normally override the satnav data as it's likely a temporary speed limit (roadworks/traffic etc). If it doesn't see a repeater after some distance, it should resort back to the satnav data. If you haven't already, make sure the satnav has the latest maps installed... Annoyingly it can sometimes pick up signs from side streets, parallel roads and once even from the back of a truck Given your original description, it does sound like the above may have occurred and it's working normally.
  5. Modifications time with@ApertureSwhen fitment off the facelift taillights happened Que loads of photos taken by Elliott received_6843981992383132.mp4 20231118_193020.mp4
  6. Hi all! Intermittently we would get the warning on dash saying “SOS Error -Call workshop”. The screen will also not turn on during this time. This warning goes away when we switch off the car for a period of time after driving. Besides a yellow warning triangle on the dash and screen not turning on there are no other symptoms. We have not driven the car much lately so I suspect it could be down to low battery, and will get a battery conditioner to see if it helps. Is the battery in the Skoda an AGM battery? Any good recommendations for quick battery charger? Also does anyone else has this issue? Seems intermittent and does not affect how the car drives.
  7. Just got a 120L for a fair price with just minor things to get it running. excitingly waiting for the winter!
  8. Could be the clutch packs? Assuming there are no leaks or errors, I wonder if the clutches are worn leading to juddering..
  9. Any decent independent can do rear brakes with electronic parking brake. Just go somewhere reputable and you'll be fine.
  10. If it's got Stop Start then normally a reset of the BMS, aka coding, is done. I've heard lots of chat of if it's the same battery type ie AGM, EFB and same Ah rating then it not required/not so important. But personally why not do it anyway, takes all of 5 minutes to do. I personally always do it when swapping stop/start batteries.
  11. My previous Superb was a late 2013 MK2 facelift 1.6 Greenline Estate diesel with the 6 speed manual gearbox. In all fairness it was actually ok power wise for me, had it from new and covered 125k miles in it throughout the 4 years I had it, economy was very good, usually giving 60+ mpg but obviously depends how & where you drive. I wouldn't write off the 1.6 diesel unless it has a DPF, in which case for too many shorter drives it may not be suitable, I drove mainly longer journeys. Had it new from Carrs Skoda, as did my current MK3 (now Yeomans Skoda). Have you taken it for a good test drive, that may sway your decision one way or the other.
  12. Is the dealer doing this work the dealer you purchased the vehicle from? If so I would ask to speak to the Dealer Principal. The silica bag issue is well known, and well documented. The risk of a considerable financial bill due to the bag splitting is practically a given. To the best of my knowledge Skoda now no longer fit this bag in new vehicles because of the damage being caused. If the dealer has sold you the car with the bag still in situ I would suggest they need to acknowledge some degree of responsibility. If you get push back from the dealer I would take the matter up with Skoda U.K. Customer Services. If there is still no joy I would consider seeking legal advice via any legal helpline you have with your car or home insurance. The dealer should deal with this as a warranty issue and should they state they won't I would ask for those reasons to be given in writing. At the very least they should make a gesture of goodwill by accepting a significant part of the costs. Good luck!!
  13. From what langers2k says above, mine must be working by the default fusion option. In Wales, it's currently reverting to 30 mph when I'm away from the 20 mph signs, but I guess it'll be corrected when the maps are updated. I'm currently in Tenerife and we've hired a Cupra Leon ST for the duration of our stay. It's got a large navigation screen that looks similar to the one that'll be in the latest Superb and the TSR shows various signs that mine doesn't, such as slippery road, bends, crossroads, etc, so maybe the new Superb will show these as well?
  14. Then it's best to carry on this discussion in that original thread, since something you did there has caused the problem so the context is VERY importaant.
  15. Yep. That's what I said 👆
  16. I though OTA map updates were only on a paid for subscription plan?
  17. I have a scheme for TDI engines, but I secretly hope that it will be possible to connect it for TSI engines as well. In my opinion, the units for the engine will be similar, but I also looked at the Golf TSI, for example, there is no connection option there either
  18. Not unless you have a subscription. Without one, you'll have to go with the USB method.
  19. The two USB-C ports in the centre console are charging and data; the two in the back are charging only.
  20. Is it OK to use 10W-40, 15W-40, 15W-50 whatever for long years and suddenly decide to change to thinner oil? It is what we should discuss IMHO.
  21. The £0 & £20 VED at the time really was and is a joke considering the cheating that was done with the testing pre-WLTP. Defeat Devices and testing on Rolling Roads on Base Models without options like spare wheels in the cars tested, not that that really mattered. Before that the Scrappage Scheme that had some people buying a new Diesel City car was a P1ss take. Many of those cars bought then were scrapped years ago. Now it is PHEV,s that are kidology which the WLTP helps with. If they did do 200 mpg + for each gallon used with just one charge up of the small battery before a journey how amazing would that be.
  22. Thanks Breezy_Pete that's a very useful link. It's 036121188B and seems was used on earlier Fabia as well as Octavia, Roomster and Rapid: preheating pipe with a ventilation socket, intended for vehicles with 1.2HTP 44kW (CGPB), 1.4 16V 59kW/63kW (BUD, BXW, CGGA, CGGB), 1.6 16V 77kW (BTS, CFNA) engines Thank you for help with parts/prices will take you up on that in future! I ordered this part on eBay (Febi so should be ok quality) a couple of days ago as was pretty certain it was problem. Also have new gaskets on way for throttle body and intake ports. In past I'd fixed a leak with new coolant pump and it hadn't lost any coolant till very recently so this must be a newish fault. I used a coolant pressure tester which has been very useful on other cars — from underneath the Skoda the coolant dripping from under intake was very obvious and every other union for coolant was bone dry.
  23. I started to go back earlier this year after a few years off/avoiding due to the pandemic.......then 4 weeks later (end of April) broke 2 bones in my left foot...😬...So a few months off for that, then started to go back, took it easy...& then missed October as sorting the car out...Now back to it again!...
  24. If the Karoq disks are double sided i.e. vented in the middle it is quite common for the inner supporting ribs to rust away, you will then feel a disturbing pulsing of the brake pedal when braking.
  25. Ditto until recently when a faint light metallicy rattle/vibration appeared from the steering wheel console area. Some days there, some days not and always disappears in a few minutes, so for the moment just waiting to see if it goes away.
  26. I didn’t have to remove the carrier when I replaced my rear discs recently. But regarding the bolts I would get them from a Skoda dealer.
  27. What happened to make the menu item disappear? Any coding/adaptation changes to 5F, any fault codes showing in 5F when scanned with e.g. VCDS or OBDeeven?
  28. If the the car is parked in 1st gear, start the engine, put it in reverse while the clutch in pressed. Does it still run? Or does it cut off (a few secondes) after you very gently lift your foot of the clutch pedal? Is your instrument cluster still working if it cuts out and the time on it still set after?
  29. Tyres are a good place to start looking and fit for use doesn't mean they're necessarily that good. As well as checking pressure (remember to reset the tyres from the menu if you adjust inflation) check the manufacture date on all tyres and that all four, or at least sets of two on the axles, match in make, model and (roughly) manufacture date. Even if there's loads of tread left on the tyres if they're old they can go hard and if they're done lots of miles and lots of tread left they may have started with already being hard hence the lack of tread wear and perhaps meaning they're noisy tyres. Noisy tyres can help to transmit other noise more giving a noisy cacophony. Wind noise might be drying/dried out door seals or perhaps door(s) fit if the vehicle had damage there (I'm sure my wife's car might have). Engine noise at 92k-miles, have you got any servicing and maintenance history on the car, do you know if the spark plugs and engine air filter have been changed, and how many times, was there regular and timely engine oil & filter changes? At 8 years old and 92k-miles I'd also be thinking of brake fluid changes and coolant (and perhaps gearbox oil but that's just me) condition of brake discs & pads. Do you know how the mileage was done and spread out over the years, MoT and service history should give you a lot of mileage history, high mileages can be good and low mileages bad but it depends on the owner(s)/driver(s) use and abused of the vehicle and its servicing and maintenance.
  30. My TSR was unlocked by VCDS. In my experience, there must be a bit of sat/nav guidance, because when I get the max speed sign (white circle with a black diagonal line through it) on a highway, the TSR shows 60mph, but when I'm on a motorway it shows 70mph. I don't blindly follow the TSR though. Sometimes it displays incorrect info. In London, a lot of the 20mph speed restrictions are just painted on the road. It seems the whole of the north and south circular is 20mph! Mayor Khan really does want to get us out of our cars.
  31. Thanks silver, most helpful. So something like this would fit? https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs/382-p21w-car-bulb-plus-25-percent-longer-life-halfords-twin-pack-717565.html?istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istFeedId=367c5610-f937-4c81-8609-f84582324cd6&istItemId=wrmqtllpq&istBid=t&_$ja=tsid:|cid:18030148076|agid:|tid:|crid:|nw:x|rnd:7890845195733522135|dvc:m|adp:|mt:|loc:9045360&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiApOyqBhDlARIsAGfnyMr6MfExU2QOgA0exCpgFrK0S4knzX7pPkp83_f7C90mLDyCJCGZeBAaApzaEALw_wcB Not sure if the P has any bearing
  32. Jesus, has it been that long?! Anyway, returned to swimming since then, then stopped again. Tonight was my first night back, and I've signed up for the monthly pass. I've decided to go on Monday evenings and a Wednesday morning/evening (dependent on working hours). They offer a lot of different time slots, thankfully. Missed the swimming, so it's nice to be getting back in the way of it.
  33. Thanks everyone who’ve replied. Well, given the updates from Danoid here in the WHYDTYS3T thread, I’m not going to bother to update the OE Xenons, as the hype doesn’t match reality. Frankly, there seems to little or no difference in illumination, so I’ll just hang on to my £150 quid for now.
  34. Or perhaps at the time VW signed a mutually beneficial deal with a different oil company, perhaps for a wider range of products to also cover the other VW owned car brands and models (I don't know just speculating without any evidence). My wife's 2015 VW/Skoda Fabia has Castrol (forget which product) over the folder that holds the car's cards and Owners booklets and at Dealerships servicing Castrol engine oil products are recorded as being used, which oil company/product did VW/Skoda recommend/promote in 1994, 1997, 2000?
  35. Well enough was enough, my local dealer is great but my 3yr old Octavia was becoming a permanent resident in their workshop due to that notorious infotainment system and its hard/soft ware issues - I would also say it is a dangerous design, fine if youve a passenger to use it but not for the driver...so what next, well happy with dealer (question on how good skoda uk is) but I stayed and now have a Karoq, I can now use the infotainment system , I was tempted by another Octavia as they might have sorted it but didn't want the risk, all cars have issues but my last Octavia oh my gord no (shame as it was my 4th Ocy)
  36. Bulb type is often printed into the plastic of the bulb holder adjacent to where it goes.
  37. You don't say that you have tried new bulbs; have you?
  38. Welcome to Karoq ownership! Hope you will be happy with your new Skoda. Im on my 2nd Skoda, and I have never bought the same car twice in all my years of car ownership.
  39. Yes this worked! Didn't know about that function, proof attached.
  40. sadly no. front has been pulled apart. rear has been pulled apart. interior has been pulled apart. i think its just the roof liner that remains untouched!! 🤪
  41. Agree with the sentiment, but without knowing otherwise, the defect could've occurred after it was sold. My take is that an installed part of the cooling system has failed. The car is under warranty, so remedial action should be taken via the warranty. It's the dealers problem. It'd probably be worth discussing with Trading Standards/Consumer Direct to ascertain rights and expectations, including rejecting the car if it was bought within that timeframe. G
  42. Politely ask the Dealership MD to point out to you in the Approved Used Warranty where this defect is excluded and why.
  43. Versus 17 posts, 8 of which confrontational. That's what is great about this forum, there is both room for and tolerance of either.
  44. Some really good trips away this summer. Not all of them dry, but we had fun anyhow.
  45. I'm currently suffering this in my Karoq. It went in for investigation about 6 weks ago and I had a sofware update. Only used the car once until we went to Austria and back. the alarm went off over 20 times in 14 days including about 6 times on the last day. The issue is that although it usually resets on stopping and restarting, sometimes it faults again immediately. We drove over 350 miles yesterday with no SOS system working, so if we had had a crash, ...... BTW, we get a triangle and SOS up on the dash (digital dash) and the telltale light on the overhead button goes from green to red.
  46. Mine was looking the same. It was changed under warranty.
  47. I think its a great engine, especially with DSG. Great economy (circa 70mpg easily on sensible driving on steady runs) pulls well, AdBlue not an issue for me, topped it up once and no issues. Software, as with all Mk4 Octavia's, is the main issue but if it has 1941 you should be in a good place as its fixed most of the issues. I agree on the extended warranty, they did a £35 a month deal for me (mine is getting to the 3 year point) for 2 years and also includes two services and MoTs, plus usual breakdown and recovery, so basically £840 for two years, a no brainer for me as I will now be keeping it.
  48. Just buy a CTek MXS 5.0 UK, a couple of 2.5m extension leads if needed, a Connect Cig Plus, shove it into the boot socket, switch on and let it do its thing.
  49. Sure, can you post an autoscan and an adaption map for 09? Hopefully you're VCDS friend took both when they were connected
