Hi Under firm acceleration from lowish revs (1500 – 2500 ish) the car stumbles momentarily a few times. A bit like a 2 stroke "nipping up". It's more than a simple misfire as the car jolts each time. It did this on the drive home from the garage on a Hill and continues to do it. No engine light. Garage has suggested running their diagnostics but of course it won't be under load. Will this even show up on diags. AI seems to think its something wrong during fitting of the VVT or oil tube . Part fitted was ULPTK164AF priced at £164 on ebay which the garage charged at £268. This is a full kit with sprockets and oil pump chain. Your advice please.

Hi I have a 2010 Skoda estate 2.0 auto. It developed a fault a year ago where the battery was draining overnight and after visits to 2 separate garages (costing £900), it was diagnosed as having a faulty drivers seat module/actuator. I finally found one and it was installed yesterday. Unfortunately, the power drain started straight away so its obvious the module was not at fault. When the seat power wasn't connected, there was no power drain. The garage, who are vw/audi/skoda speacialists say that it may require a further 8 hours of investigation costing another £640. What could be causing the power drain? I am close to just selling the car for next to nothing as it is becoming a drain on my finances (excuse the pun) Thanks for any advice

Depends on what pump it is. You used to be able to get pumps recon reasonabley cheaply but cost these days can be as much as a new one. Reckon anything between £200-£800 or above depending on whats wrong. Wonder if as it ran out of diesel did it suck up crud/water and filters are blocked? Some pumps have a fine gauze at fuel inlet. Not sure what car it is or engine but it may have an intank filter as well. Worth checking and replacing all filters first. Alasdair

Was it soot or ash content or both that was 20% Soot gets burned off during regen but ash builds up over time. Next time it happens I would take it out for a decent long run and see how long it takes for it to regen again. With mine its random. Recently after decent run it took over a two weeks to start regen again but if I do short trips it starts regen about every few days until another long run. Check the dpf sensor isnt melted. Read a few reports that on ea288 engines the sensor is prone to heat and can melt/be damaged. Alasdair

I had a feel around in bottom of door but couldn't find anything. I have tried loosening bottom screw eventually to the point where you couldn't pull on handle but barrel not coming out. Tried key in it and pulling no good and tried trying with a screwdriver.

if u can find someone who can do the DCC Slider Mod for you, that will make the suspension perfect!! sadly its not easy to find someone who can do it, globally. firmer/lowering springs alone doesn't do it perfectly as the car can still bottom out. stiffer swaybars help to an extent with keeping the car flatter, but again, not perfect. performing a DCC Re-calibration helps a good deal, but on BIG bumps, it can still bottom out. the DCC Slider Mod on the other hand is a game changer. essentially the DCC module is loaded/flashed with the parameter file (suspension algorithm) from a VW Arteon. no hardware change. after doing this, the car is so so so much more composed over bumpy road, speed humps, corners, potholes and no more bottoming out!! as added bonus, ur DCC settings go to 15 levels, ranging from Comfort+ to Sport+ i had this done a couple of years ago now. i'm also running Eibach Pro-Kit springs, with front & rear swaybars, and i've also done the DCC Re-calibration.

Undo the top a few turns and then begin undoing the bottom one a little at a time whilst pulling on the lock and it should pop out. I think I had trouble with the online guides because mine was stuck.

Angle tightening is essential for fasteners that are taken into the plastic region, but far more often it is simply a far more accurate way of tensioning a(ny) bolt compared to torque alone. The impact and variability of friction when tightening only by torque creates wide uncertainty in the achieved pre-tension. Angle tightening is independent of friction because the bolt extension is directly related to thread pitch and the angle used. Smaller torque plus angle gives a far more predictable outcome. So it's just a better way of tightening important fasteners, not a guarantee that the bolt in question is permanently lengthened in each usage.

Not normal (and let’s face it, it’s a change that you’ve flagged so you’re on the right track). My money’s on a lower arm bush split meaning as the weight moves forward under slowing down (you mention lifting off but not about braking…?) and then moving back under acceleration there is plenty around the bushes that can move enough to have metal strike metal. Best bet is to get it to somewhere to get it up on a ramp and have a good look and wiggle around.

Bought a new cylinder from a local motor factor, then tried to buy a matching one from ebay (the factor could only get one) and the ebay lads said 'are you sure? that's not the right one'. and we discovered that my old pistons are 22mm and the one the factor gave me was a 19.5mm for an ABS car. My truck is too old and **** for that kind of disaster preparedness. The ebay dude VERY kindly gave me the correct part number which has now gone via autodoc (hmm) and evri (eurgh) and hopefully in a few days we'll have working rear brakes again. No sills ordered yet, I need to wait for payday.

Ash content was 20%, which I was told was quite good/normal for a 71,000 miler. I do regular 10 mile runs around town..ish, and a 15 mile there and same on return blast down my local motorway once or twice a week. As I said, I hold the appropriate gear to keep the revs up to 2500-3000 as much as possible when I sense it's regenerating....usually when the mpg won't go above 43.5 whereas it's usually in the low 50's Never had an issue, and do lob a bottle of DPF cleaner in the tank a couple of times a year too to try and keep on top of it. I'm probably worrying about nothing. Absolutely love this car btw.
