Hello All, figured i'd make a post now i've rejoined the fold! Many moons ago i got seen off with possibly the worst Octavia MK1 to ever grace the roads of the UK, faults multiple and various (Including a mirror bodged into the warning lights, to allow the check engine light to be hidden!) which soured me on VAG stuff as a whole for the longest time. Fast forward 10 years, Missus finds a twofer - a Mk1 VW LT35 horsebox, and a Polo 6N2 for me to run round in. Huh, maybe VAG stuff is ok and i just got a bad one... fast forward a little more, and i'm now the proud owner of a 2012 Fabia MK2 Scout (105 Hp CAYC 1.6 Diesel, cause what could go wrong with that :) ) Special laptop based diagnostic tool is in the post, already fixing bits (blower resistor changed literally 5 mins ago) Apologies to all the Fabia owners here, but i'm definately gonna be picking your brains over the next couple of....well....i guess you're stuck with me now!

About a month or so ago I started getting update messages and continually hit update. There is no feedback as to whether it installed or not and I can find no reference in the handbook on installation process. I was going to ignore but it has recently started making intermittent warning sounds — four short beeps followed by a tinkling sound — which I’d never heard before. After investigation by internet I found that My Scala, a 20‑plate, now out of warranty, and is still running Amundsen firmware 0278. The car has never successfully installed an OTA update. I had a main‑dealer service on 24 July 2024, but the infotainment firmware wasn’t checked or updated, because it isn’t policy, even though the successor version 0363 had already been released. The dealer has tried to help, but because the car is out of warranty they’ve quoted £336, as ODIS shows the update as a two‑hour install. From what I’ve been able to gather, this appears to be standard VW Group practice and policy across their vehicles: infotainment firmware is treated as a non‑service item, dealers don’t routinely check it, and owners aren’t notified when new versions are released. Updates only seem to happen if you report faults. If you ask for an update it is chargeable. I also can’t find anything in the handbook explaining how OTA updates work, how they install, or that some updates require ODIS dealer installation. To me, this feels like a terrible way to treat customers, because there’s no way for an owner to know their car is stuck on outdated firmware until faults appear — often after warranty. For anyone with a Scala or other MIB3 cars: have you had similar experiences with firmware updates only being applied if you complain, and has anyone had success with Skoda out of warranty?

Nope, I just followed the instructions and script took care of everything including VCRN read. I did no additional steps. Attaching photo of terminal after executing script on dumped binary, you can see VCRN is loaded there. So basically your work is just a monkey job to dump the binary, patch it and save back to chip :)

Isn't the Octavia a longer wheelbase than the A4 - the rear legroom is MUCH greater on the Octavia?

6 years later I've been doing the exact same thing thought i had the 2 bottom ones out ive been trying to manouver the glovebox out but won't come. Will go look for those other 2 thankyou

I’m wondering if anyone has fitted the sideskirts from an Audi A4 onto their Octavia? They’re not obtrusive, but are noticeable. It’s the sort of thing I’d like to do although also very likely I’ll never do!…. so just wondering if it’s been done by anyone here? Picture of skirt for reference….

Can You visualize the OFF ROAD menu having the PERFORMANCE/SPORT menu activated? I mean can You visualize both of the options OR have You to choose one of them?

@lol-lol You just do not get it do you? . All those that do not stay at street level or one level up in a property. High rise flats in blocks etc. Multi Storey living. Streets of houses, tenement housing where you might never get a vehicle near your property or a lamp post or pavement side charger. These are in towns and cities and some might have a charger or 3, but dozens of residences and both sides of the streets lined with parked cars. Re a Highland 500 mile loop / North Coast 500. With a 200-250 + mile range you only need a TESLAS charge in Fort William or Inverness then 1 or 2 charges on a 50 kW charger maybe costing 70 pence kWh. (Highland Region, but there ere EVolt from 56 pence to Osprey @ 89 pence, PodPoint and others.) No issues there, just find a working one that is available.

Anyone got dealer level access to give me some part numbers? Local dealer not helping and want to try some breakers but Skodas are way less common here in NZ so trying to help me along. Happy to PM you my VIN number - need numbers for under body trays and a couple other bits. Thanks

There are multiple ways to help those without drive ways. I like the roll of street charging and lampposts are one good way as well as standalone street chargers. When my employer owned Source London I was involved in the import of the equipment and it is surprising hyst how expensive these units are. Those of use who have chargers fitted to our houses it is paid for one way or another. Partial grant under the lady Con government softened the financial cost but it still was hundres of pounds to fork out. Wallbox fitment is standard rated for VAT so UK government got a dose of tax from that at the time. My first two properties i lived in did not have drives but third onward did and having EVs is just logical. Yes I do publuc charge and whilst Sunak entirely dodged the full VAT rate on public charging i would like to see public charging VAT rate come down to get more ICE vehicles off the road as part of the carrot rather than just ever higher oil prices due to Middke East wars and gready oil and gas companies. Like previous governments gave remote areas excise cuts of about 10% i would like to see similar for EV charging as I want to do the 500 mile Highland loop as good chargers everywhere in the uk should be a thing.

Just to conclude. I finally got this thing largely finished, enjoyed it for roughly a week and then it stalled at a roundabout, and when eventually started it sounded like a bag of spanners. Timing has jumped. It will run but it pains me doing so. My best mate has expressed an interest in the rescue of the thing, so rebuild could be on the cards hopefully. Bought it from Radcliffe! Started life supplied by Robert Eardley & Sons and went to someone in Sandbach who owned it for quite some time. I'm keeper number 5, but the last two have spent decent money before parting ways - not sure how to look at that yet. Main thing is that it's tidier than my last one. I was going to put my own plate on, but I might keep the knob reg for a laugh.

The location of the tank and pump depends on exactly which model. On the 280tsi it is behind the front right wheel arch but I think in most other models it is front left wheel arch. Where is your filler cap, as this shows which side? One can get an infection of algae “bug” which clogs the filter gauze etc (there is a gauze filter on the pump inlet) and /or there could be a leak somewhere. For the bug problem, having cleaned it out I would put a small amount of Milton in the fluid from time to time, to prevent it from re-growing

@mattbacon Who ever told you the DSG you had was sealed for life? Wet Clutch 6 speed DQ250 DSG,s were never sealed for life. They were @40,000 miles. DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG,s had no Service Schedule. They were and are not sealed for life. A 7 speed DQ381 DSG schedule is at 80,000 miles and Skoda / Skoda Dealers say the Oil filter needs changed at the 2nd Service. A total nonsense really. Best you decide if you want to have done sooner and the filter changed at each service.

Tesla sells electricity @ 28 pence in the Northern UK far above the North / Manchester. during the cheapest hours at some hubs but then there are only 8 hubs north of Edinburgh and those can be along way away from where people live and drive. Yes regional tariffs that have lower tariffs for near to where the electricity can and is generated might be simply clever. That is certainly not the Midlands or the South West of England. As far as Scotland many Tens of Millions has been thrown at there being Public Chargers that are now out of service or no longer fit for purpose & now the regions are leaving Charge Place Scotland and some are away from Swarco. But that is another story. The point i made was it is a nonsense to keep on about peoples ability to get CHEAP HOME CHARGING or BUDDY up with someone to use there property to charge. That might well suit some. But it is THE SOCIAL DIVIDE. As is Business / Commercial users.
